Using 3 or 5 of any plant is key to getting the right balance. I think 3 pleached trees here would have looked better if the object was the grow a hedge across all the trees.

How did you get your trunks so thick? 🤔

Once they are dead can you just pressure wash them out or do you have to pull them out by hand. Got a massive paver area in backyard and driveway to do

Hello -this is a great but simple design. What gauge wire do you use? I have noticed in a lot of comments, others have asked you the same question and you respond "it's in the video description"' but I cannot see any video description...!!! Would you be able to answer the question without the redirection ??
@S0dininkas2 жыл бұрын
Hi. Below is a copy paste part of the original description. ‘Fencing Line Wire galvanised green PVC coated were used in this video. ~ 3.3mm. 12 gauge steel (2.5mm). Suitable for light weight plastic pots. Thicker wire and improved shape can be used for heavier pots.’ It is all relative. Depends on your situation, weight of your pots (with water saturated soil) and plants, type of wire available to you. This was one-off DIY project that worked for me. Posted as an idea for others to develop or discard it. In theory you can bend a rebar to this shape to hold quite heavy pots. But it won’t be visually pleasing.

Anyone know where I can buy pleached trees in the US? I am so jealous of Europeans-they seem to have these available in many places. I live in Seattle and am willing to order them from anywhere I can :( not even sure I care about price anymore!

I have this type of concrete posts but the thing I don't get is that I'd have to go into my neighbours garden to do this, as the nice side is meant to face them, but on one side of my garden, it's 3 different properties with a drop in ground level and a quarter mile walk to get back home after going thru one of their houses! 😂

What gauge/size wire would you recommend for medium weight pots? I’m trying to hang a couple 4 inch plants in ceramic pots

Thank you - I've been looking at pre-made pot rings but they're expensive and would take a while to arrive; I already have some wire and a stack of pots so am really looking forward to getting going with this straight away : D

Hi - thank-you for your video. I’m on the verge of buying a row of 4-5 pleach trees too. Just deciding on Hornbeam or Photinia. I favour Photinia, because they are red tipped and evergreen, but I’m wondering if they’d make my small garden darker than using hornbeam which has bright green leaves. I’d be interested to know what you think, now that your hornbeam have matured. My trees need to be 2.5mH clear stem and 1.5/2m width, to block out 2 storey flats on two sides. What size did you buy? Will they continue to grow in height if left to do so, which is what I would like? How long did they take to, “fill in” to screen your wall? I’ll contact the nursery you used, Evergreen, but hope you’d be so kind and answer my questions, to help me decide?

Hi. The planting was part of my job as a landscaper 6 or so years ago. And I had no chance to visit that garden again. Normally it is up to garden designer to pick the right tree for that given location (colours, growing conditions etc.). Sometimes it is client’s preference or whims. Choose the right length of clear trunk and crowns can be trained/reduced. Any shaped tree will keep on growing and will turn in to normal tree if left to their own devices. Hornbeams are fairly quick growers and quite tall trees in nature. To maintain neat hedge like look you’ll need to prune them 3-4 times a year (depends). The taller they are, more trouble to maintain them and that will cost accordingly. Some other evergreens. Holm oak (Quercus ilex) is quite popular but some leaf miners and fungal diseases can make older foliage look unhappy. New flush looks good though. Prunus lusitanica can be the choice. Prunus laurocerasus I see from time to time. But, personally, I don’t like them as a pleached tree. Any plant has it’s own advantages and disadvantages in any given garden. It is not an easy question to answer I’m afraid. I hope that helps.

That’s 12 gauge wire under that PVC coating? I’m using smaller wire - 14 gauge galvanized steel wire and I needed a bolt cutter to cut it and needed a lot more force to do all the bends. Maybe I’m just a wimpy girl.
@S0dininkas3 жыл бұрын
There are different types of wire (like anything else). It depends on your locality. I gave the measurements from my order. You’ll give it a try with what you have. You’ll try with something different. You’ll try again and again, and again. And here you go. You’ve nailed it. Or... you’ve got something new!

Are you able to tell me where you buy the tree ties or what you use to tie in the branches? I need to repair a few bamboo canes on my pleached trees.
@S0dininkas4 жыл бұрын
To make/fix bamboo structures I’m usually using some galvanised wire and bonsai root hook. The technique came from building industry. You can find online how the steel/bars are being fixed with the help of the hook. This can be tricky to ordinary person (lack of tools and skill) so any wire and the pliers will do. Common sense and the physics applies. To tie in the branches you can use thicker plastic coated wire. Thin one can cut in easily. Check local garden centres what is available. DIY stores for some flexible stuff. Rope will do. Be creative. Ensure the ties are not too tight and there is enough room to thicken up. You can remove the ties later but in reality no one has enough time for that and the ties cuts in to the bark.

Do you think 10 gauge copper wire would work? I tried a hanger and found it way to hard to make precise bends. Thanks
@S0dininkas4 жыл бұрын
Hi. Thank you for your interest. This is just an idea that I wanted to share with others. I can’t comment on other options as I’ve never tried any. Well, I feel I need to. When you face a problem you need to take different approach. Try to use pliers to bend the wire? Let me know if you can. I don’t have any wire hangers to play with.
