I'm just so glad to see someone who got the money but not turning into a snob, furthermore sharing some of it with others, just being natural, giving tips and advice to the other of us who can't afford to buy everything to see if it was worth it or not. yeap, it's a great lens. There is trio of 15mm, 25mm and 42,5mm Leicas sharing very similar signature. BTW I own DJI Lens, which is a rebrended 15mm 1,7.

I bought the Olympus M. Zuiko 45mm 1.8 and it quickly became my go-to lens. Light and small... yes. However, mine is pleasantly sharp and the bokeh is strong enough to create a nice separation. Great video, by the way. I love the A-B comparison of moderately priced lens versus kinda-pricey lens. When you see them back to back - it makes sense. Thanks for the work you put into the video.

Loved your positive attitude and presentation! My favorite travel combo is the Oly 9-18mm, Pana 12-32mm and the nimble 17/1.8 for low light. With an Olympus camera and their FL-LM3 flash, there's little one will miss for casual photography. There still remains the perfect light for video, which remains to be invented.

Your videos stand out because you use your years of experience where I'm sure you've seen countless trends and fads come and go to give us straight, simple and practical advice. Once I started comparing the weight and size of my M50 and adapted lenses to m4/3, I stopped looking into new lenses for the M50. After a year, I just started making the switch and love it.

I hope the 42.5 you gave away is giving someone a lot of joy. It is one of those I wish I had it type lenses and had I seen this video back in May I would have applied for it. Sometimes small is best, but when a lens has special character I don’t mind extra weight at all. This has to be the best overview of small MFT lens options on the internet. Agree it is an excellent “fast” lens. However for street photography, you just cannot beat the tiny Lumix 12-32mm lens because of the built in lens stabilization coupled with the excellent IBIS on the GX85 make this combo a winner for walk around photography.

Great comparison of the M43 lenses very useful thanks. Those f1.8 Olympus lenses are excellent value. I hope Panasonic comes out with another rangefinder style camera similar to the GX8 just a bit smaller. The GX9 didn't cut the mustard they cut too many corners.

I really like your video, excellent intro to micro 4/3, totally agree. Everything micro should by definition be small, hopefully also lightweight. Only critissism , you did not mention bloggers and tourists use the extendable selfie stick, usually with a cellphone or an action camera because being handheld it is longer away than the one you used in your video and you don't need to carry around a tripod which is heavier and cumbersome. You did not mention that lenses with large apertures are more expensive and heavy because they need more glass and are more difficult to make, the advantage of these lenses is that each stop more open means you need half the light, which when working with only daylight is a great advantage.

I have a Lumix GM5. I prefer the size of the GM5 over my Olympus EM1 Mark II, but I love the controls and 5 axis image stabilization of the Olympus. I can take night shots hand-held at ISO 200. I bought it used for $650 and couldn't be happier. I showed a friend with a newer full-frame Nikon DSLR some of the night shots zoomed-in and he couldn't get over the images and size and weight of the Olympus.

Awesome video, Marcus! Thank you for sharing your insights. You've helped me better capture family moments we can never get back. Based on this video and a couple of your others, I picked up a GM1 and three of the lenses you recommended here to better pursue my photography hobby. I'm a novice and originally bought a Nikon D5600, but frankly found myself leaving it home for special events and vacation trips because of the systems' size. Also, I picked up a Canon Vixia camcorder (based on your camcorder video) in time to catch my three girls open their Christmas presents. Right tool for the job! Great vid! I'd throw my name in for the Nocticron but I sold mine for the same reason you're giving yours away. The 14mm is another good lens and next to the body caps, the smallest in the system. I really wish Panasonic would bring back the GM5, mine is showing it's age... and I agree the GX85 is too big to replace it.

My go to lens is the 45mm too, just a fantastic little lens. Started using thr 25mm lumix of late but it doesn't make me go wow like thr Olympus 45mm does. Great video 👍

That 75 is so gorgeous. All that glass!! I have the 45. It's miniscule. If I want a lens that length (75mm+) I get an adapter and put on my old OM system 85mm f/2 which is only about the same size as an old SLR standard lens!

I loved this. Like you, I'm not afraid of vlogging with a tripod. I'm using my G9, and it's just too damn big for an old guy like me to hold out in front of me. I use my Oben mini-tripod on my desk if I'm vlogging from my office, or I have a nice full-size monopod that I can carry around instead of a tripod. I mostly use a 25mm Pana 1.7 or my 42.5mm 1.7. I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on that Oly 17mm, though. I think it's a perfect lens for vlogging, Thanks for the great content.

I have the Canon 70D with secondhand lenses. My favorite lens is my nifty 50 pancake lens. The weight drops to the point I enjoy shooting with the camera. Is the 70D the best of the best? No, but it is a fine camera to use and I have fun with it. Just because something is older doesn’t mean it’s obsolete.

My first 4/3 was a GX85 two lens kit. Then I added an Olympus EPL-7 which is my grab and go camera. I like my Sony A6000 for APS-C. Seldom use my older DSLR's anymore. I prefer the smaller stuff like you. Another great video. Thanks.

Word. Of course, the resolution and bokeh-chasing crowd may utter mumbles of disagreement, but I think you're spot on. Photography isn't about specifications, it's about making photographs and story telling. A lot of remarkable photographs have been taken with some pretty naff kit. I chose the M43 system because it's small, light, easy to carry, and produces great images. Leaving my big, bulky Nikons behind and switching to a PenF brought the joy back to shooting for me. I can carry a body and three or four lenses in a small bag, the whole kit feeling less burdensome than my bulky DSLR with one lens. The 12mm/2, 17mm/1.8, 25mm/1.8 and 45mm/1.8 are staples, along with a few vintage MF lenses when I want their look. The 75mm/1.8 has its place. Optically, it's one of the most stunning lenses I've ever shot with, but I often feel it's sort of voyeuristic, and generally prefer to be closer to what I'm shooting.

I like 4/3 lens as I find great deals without too much effort. My Zuiko 45mm cost me $207. My 17mm f2.8 pancake was $123. Simply better bang for the buck than APS-C and full frame glass. Thanks for another great review. May look for a Lumix 14-42mm next.

Markus is spot on with his size comparison. If you have a m4/3 system the huge f1.2 Pro lenses are great for low light photography or for when weather sealing is essential, but I would not get it as a main lens even for G9 or EM1. Sony a7 with one of those f1.8 prime is imo the best compromise of size, image quality, background blur and low light performance.

Mark you might like the Minolta 135mm f2.8 and if you get the Sony adapter you can put A-Mount lens on Sony E-Mount bodies. A lot of people love the Minolta 135mm f2.8 lens.

not mentioned Lumix 25mm f1.7 often on sale for @150.00 and the Lumix 42.5mm f1.7 another very small compact lens. I use these two lenses for low available light instead of my excellent but much heavier Leica12mm-60mm f2.8-f4.0.

Its a great camera BUT to make it practical, you have to ADD a screen so you can see yourself, attachments for audio, flash, viewfinder etc and by the time all those attachments are screwed on, it's bigger and heavier than a full frame Sony. I wish they would update the Sony RX1Rii with a flip out screen

Low light is where M4/3 can struggle, and that is when a speedbooster is useful. I use some old Nikon glass with a speedbooster, great low light results.

Panasonic 42.5mm f1.7 can focus closer than the Olympus 45mm f1.8... maybe worth a look if you like to do some semi-macro work. Both are great for portraiture.

Nice for you to showcase micro four thirds in this day and age. Almost everybody are going to full frame cameras. I previously own a micro four thirds (now a Fuji user), and I miss its portability. I also miss that 45mm f1.8. The lens is very little, but outputs sharp images.

You should try the Yongnuo 25mm f 1.7 and the Yongnuo 45mm f1.7 autofocus lenses for the m43 mount. Excellent autofocus. good optics. Cheap as chips at about $110 each!

As always great video. I own a gh4 with 2 lens one is a wide lens 14 mm and a portrait nocticron 42.5mm. Yes the the 42.5 is big but I don't mind lugging it around
