With big bites hard to come by during the heart of the spawn, I decided to bust out the light tackle rigs and give worms a try. I was going for smaller fish but more bites, and I did get more bites! However, my skill with the tiny catfish has diminished with time, and I lost as many as I caught. Furthermore, two of the catfish I did land were anything but tiny. Landing big catfish is always fun: I keep my usual catfish rigs light enough to ensure this. But the fun I had landing these hefty channel catfish on my light tackle rigs was exponential. Worms are my go-to when I want to catch fish and don't really care what. Knowing that this small river is loaded with smaller catfish, I figured on targeting these fish while many of the bigger cats were occupied on the nests. Plans don't always work out as intended - in my case, they almost never do - but sometimes luck works out such that a different outcome than intended is not always a bad thing. Hope you enjoy!
