My wife's city, Stary Oskol, is like your city, easy to walk to the shops. The big difference is it's a 13.5 overnight train ride from Kursky train station in Moscow. After flying through 8 times zones to get to Moscow from Atlanta we've already got jet lag when we land there. We spend a couple of nights in her Moscow apartment and then the overnight trip to Stary Oskol. We spend 10 days in Stary Oskol and then 13.5 hours back to Moscow. On most of our trips we'll spend two more days in Moscow and fly back home. It takes us a week to get our bodies back to normal again. Russia and the wonderful Russian people are well worth it all. If you've never been to Russia, go there and visit with a Russian family. It will be a heart warming experience you'll never forget. Thanks you for your videos, you're doing an awesome work and we appreciate your dedicated work for your viewers.

Hi. Love this video. I do understand that "fence thing". Here in Portugal, we have high fences too because we do want privacy. We have small gardens with some grass, a table, some chairs and we do not want people looking at us. Houses and flats here are very, very expensive also. And it is a small town, far away from Lisbon and Porto.

Thanks, as always, to you and Alex, for taking us all along with you to Shchelkovo. As for fences, I use very high plants to do the same thing: privacy from neighbors and street traffic. Fences are more expensive and less pleasurable to look at, in my humble opinion. : )

Really nice video. It is nice seeing another small city in Moscow Region. Some of those houses are big, I guess most people who live in houses like in the small cities instead of having them in the heart of Moscow. As for fences and walls, we have them here as well in my country. There is mostly walls. It is more for privacy (especially if you live on a main road) and also not to have people just coming onto their lands. There are open lots with no fence...mainly in the country. USA was the first time, I saw that they have so many houses and lawns with no fence.

Nice to see that there are Russians that live in private houses. I thought almost all lived in apartments, so it's a surprise to me to see some live in houses similar to dachas. Actually, this village looks a lot like the typical American suburb.

First i like to say that you should be the voice over on National geographic. You have such a amazing voice, it's mesmerizeing and wonderful to lesten to. I really like the village in a village. I hate the high buildings, but would love to live in the 1 or 2 floor houses. I love the country side a lot and Russia has a lot of it, although there is more and more high buildings. a pity in my opinion. I really enjoyed this video Valeria and Alex has earned that Makita. ;) Thank you for sharing. Пока, мой друг.

Hello Valeria, I really enjoy all of your videos and never have any complaints about any of them, they are very interesting. You mentioned in the video that the houses are very expensive, what do you consider very expensive? Considering where the houses are located (on a main road), here in the US or at least in Naples Florida where I live, that would bring the price of the houses down. The same houses, maybe even smaller located on a quieter street could command a price that is double or more than the one that is on the busy street.
@differentrussia.7 жыл бұрын
Hello Frank. Here everything is the opposite :) the closer to the center of the city - the more expensive. Schelkovskoe highway is not very prestigious, but even here a small plot of land will cost from 80,000 dollars + the cost of a house is about 120,000 dollars. So total about 200 000 $ . For an ordinary person - it's just unreal money. (The average salary here is $ 500 per month) PS // Also you need to build a fence of a brick - $ 10,000 . LOL

Very informative like your videos. Some people by me use fences at their houses. Mostly in the backyard for privacy. This is so you can sun bathe nude and nobody would know. Unless someone flys a drone over house with a camera attached. Then you will see yourself on the internet. Like your videos. Michael

We have an old saying. "Good fences make good neighbors". Generally, our fences are not as high as the ones we see in your videos. One exception are the tall sound barriers along the sides of our highways. They protect the homes next to the freeways from the noise and sight of the roadway. You can have too much privacy though. My brother-in-law had a heart attack while mowing his lawn. Fortunately, a neighbor saw him collapse and called the ambulance. This saved his life. One of those tall fences would have gotten him killed by making him invisible to outside help. This is something people should consider before installing tall walls and fences.
@differentrussia.7 жыл бұрын
Everywhere there are pros and cons. Someday I'll show you how our neighbors at out dacha do. I immediately want to have a very high fence (LOL) But that will not help, because when they can not see clearly that we are doing, they climb to the roof of their house to see :)

Hi, I understand that hi rise buildings make cheaper apartments in general and most of the time in large cities this is also understandable due the hi prices of lands. But in small localities tall buildings are not welcomed in general, lands are cheaper isn't this an exaggeration for more and more economies and more social clashes between neighbors, noises, maintenance of common services, etc...I feel that contractors make lots of profit and carelessness after completion of the tower. I prefer sincerely not higher than 6 floors. Saving the nature aspects is also neglected. I prefer your neighborhood the soviet old contructions are more adapted to live in if maintained properly. Thanks

It's good to see different videos about Russia but it's easy to make snap judgments and conclude that the bulk of Russia looks this impoverished , dreary and plain. Just like any other country, it's got good bustling modern economic centers and run-down rural areas. I notice that I don't see any traffic stop lights. Traffic must be pain in these small towns.
