This week I finally got around to fitting a front door light that we bought several weeks ago. Follow me on Instagram @ the_small_shed www.purple-plan...

Good video and it makes me tempted to replace my old outside wall light myself. However, what puts me off is at my last house, even when I switched off power for the whole house there was a live to the outside. The electrician said I get should get the whole house checked. It was an old house I was renting with bakelite switches still, brown twin sockets left and ancient huge fuses in the cupboard.

Hi great video.... I want put light on side of my house the only source near to his socket that plugs in the fridge.... Can fuse spur that straight off...
@thesmallshed3 жыл бұрын
You could, it's not ideal to put lighting on the power circuit, as anyone doing any maintenance later on would reasonably assume that if they turned off the lighting circuit the lamp would be isolated, but if you are putting a fused spur plate in you should be fine. It might be worth labelling the plate as well.

Great video....Currently I fitted a similar light at the front door, but want to fit another light to the right of the door so they both work together..Any Ideas?

The biggest problem is getting the wiring across from one light to the other, as there's usually a lintel in the wall, above the door, that's in the way. Otherwise it would just need a connection from one light to the other.

@@thesmallshed yeah i thought so.. tricky indeed

Hi iv got same light. Do you know if there’s a way to make them stay on permanently at nite. Mine only stays on for 4 minutes max.
@peterlloyd23062 жыл бұрын
As far as I know you can't, other than by just bypassing the wiring and putting it on a normal switch in the house. It does seem a missed opportunity, some of the outside security lights can be activated by switching them on and off rapidly a couple of times, but I don't think these can.

Hi, I've got the same light on the front of my rental property and it's on all night. Do you think this is a timing /sensor problem, and could I adjust the settings without turning the power off?
@thesmallshed3 жыл бұрын
I suspect it might be a problem, mine is now flickering on and off for about 30 seconds, before it finally goes off. I don't think there was a switch to leave it on all the time, but can't really remember. The controls are under the cover plate if I remember correctly, so it's not a big job to pop it off and have a look.

If you turn it on then off then on then off then on again it will works as normal it’s sensor override

I think it was Wickes, but it was a couple of years ago.

Hi, if we want the light to be permanently ON, can we do that with this wall lamp? We have the same exact unit and we wanted the light to be permanently on between sunset until 9pm then on the sensor after 9pm to sunrise. It this capable in staying the light ON? Hope to hear from you soon. Thanks!

I'm not sure, as I didn't get into taking the lamp apart, but I suspect that if the motion sensor was shorted out it would achieve the desired result.

Anyone know how you can remove and completely disconnected and isolate an external light powe supply if you dont want the light anymore? Or does an electrician have to do this? If there's a video on here showing how pls do let me know. Thanks
@thesmallshed2 жыл бұрын
You might want to get an electrician involved to isolate it safely. It might be fed from the lighting batten in the adjacent room, but if you're not comfortable working with mains wiring I would avoid going anywhere near it.

Many thanks for the reply... think I'll get the electrician to take a look 👍

Can u tell me how u install the sensors. I dint get it. My light stays on @ night but it has the sensor.
@thesmallshed3 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the delay in reply, IT issues have been a problem, my light has the sensor fitted, and there was just an adjusting screw to alter the sensitivity of the motion sensor. I think it is under the fascia plate.

How do you change bulbs in these please
@thesmallshed2 жыл бұрын
On ours the metal collar at the top or bottom unscrews, and you can then get at the bulb.

Does this stays on if u want to leave it on for time being. Suppose u working front garden and u need the light for around 1 or 2 hours
@thesmallshed3 жыл бұрын
No, unfortunately the maximum time on is only about a minute. The motion activated floodlights you can buy often have a function to stay on if you switch them on and off quickly, and would be more use if I needed to have the area lit for any length of time.

Hi looking to do this myself as a diyer. I was wondering are your internal lights wired in the switch or are they the 3plate system wired in junction boxes or the light roses themselves. If this is the case where did you get the neutral from? Many thanks
@thesmallshed3 жыл бұрын
The switch is wired from a junction box on the ceiling rose, which carries the power to all the ground floor lighting circuit. This is wired in 1mm twin and earth, and the dropper to the switch is also in 1mm twin and earth, so there is an earth available in the switch box.
