Great little pump. I’ve achieved a consistent flow rate placing the solar panel under my led grow light. Really shocked how well it works didn’t think it would never mind have a half decent flow rate. Got 3 more on the way, thanks 👍

Used this on a waterfall I have found huge water evaporation so I will be using small rocks to narrow the surface area. I can go the bigger solar panel and battery route if needed as I have bought this for garden lights. A bit of work in progress, but it's nice when running.

Thanks for this! I had been mulling over putting together a small deck pond - this pump would be perfect, I think. Putting in my order soon! BTW, I pimped my Eheim classic 350 with biohome and put the sponge filters at the bottom after seeing your recent video. The tank’s water has never looked so clear with excellent water parameters. Good stuff - the pump is very small so wouldn't power much of a stream. It's more of a trickle to keep the water moving while it is sunny and I've made the filter I mentioned in the video so I'll film that if we get sun in the next few days. It is the sort of hing which will just sit on the bottom or hang on the side to keep the water clear.

@@pondguru I am hoping to set up a small pond with a bog for filtering with plants and gravel, if possible --I got a second hand preformed pond with smaller pond/fall attachment and would like to use the smaller attachment for the bog filter. I'd love to know if it would be possible to use a solar pump/panel for this and, if so, what solar wattage would be required. Would attaching clear PVC tubing to the solar pump output work?(long enough to go from pond up to and around bog?) I fear it would get clogged in no time... If you have any suggestions--better yet a video demonstration--it'd be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Even a modest solar set up could run a good amount of gear - especially if it was relatively low power consumption like LED lighting, small pumps and air pumps. Ideally the house consumption would be supplemented by domestic installations for solar and wind power but here in the UK there are no grants or incentives provided by whatever passes for 'government'. The unit price for electric is around £0.50 for new accounts presently which is crazy considering that I was going to only get £0.05 per unit to feed back in from our solar system and then I had to get a 'smart' meter if I wanted the feed-in payments. Needless to say I do not have a smart meter - they can shove it. The small print of a smart meter contract gives the electric company the right to drain the batteries of our system in an 'emergency' and as we've seen in the last 3 years anything can be declared as an emergency.......the power I generate is mine....all mine, lol - - - - Maybe if the government had helped me out with the costs I'd share it but I'm of the opinion that I paid to install the system therefore the electricity is for use here. The excess electric just gets dumped back into the grid with no payments but I regard that as a good deal to safeguard our power in a real emergency. That may sound a bit paranoid but I see long term. I saw where it was heading many years ago so started saving like crazy for projects to counter all the insanity leading up the nonsensical 2030 date where the 1% of the 1% want everything in place for their Great Reset / Fourth Industrial Revolution / Agenda 2030 / Fourth Reich / You will own nothing and be happy / You will eat ze bugs / New feudal system plan for the World. I learned about the Agenda 21 (which became Agenda 2030) at university in the early 90's and I was the only person questioning how those goals would be achieved without some sort of huge population decrease and a one World government....well, now we know, lol - it was disturbing to see every one of my fellow students so enthralled and brainwashed by all the propaganda but I'm so glad it had the opposite effect on me. Now we have a good amount of power generation from the solar, vegetable gardens where we grow food all year, hens producing eggs every day and many other plans which have been executed to enable us to ride out the extreme changes which have only begun to happen (by design) in the World. My fellow students from all those years ago are likely triple injected, dying of heart attacks, cowering in fear every time a mythical virus 'variant' is declared, using pronouns like 'they' in their social profiles, driving electric cars and chaining themselves to commuter trains to 'save the Earth'.... Solar is a huge part of that and while I accept that the devastation caused to the environment to produce a solar system and batteries is not taken into account while calling solar a 'green' way to generate electricity (it's a massive con to offset 'carbon' etc.) it does work very well and basically buys independence from some arms of the State which is so important in these times. By 2030 if you don't own property you will BE property and there is still time to make the changes. Go for it, man - if you have savings then use them for infrastructure since the devaluation of World currencies will see whatever is in the bank or digital investments go to zero ahead of the reset. We're due for another financial crash in late September / early October this year as it's the end of a Shmita year (7 year cycle) and nothing huge of note happened during the last one except the 2012 fear mongering about the end of the World - there will be a double hit this year. The end of the Shmita year 2 cycles ago was 2008.....huge financial crash? stock market destruction? huge upward movement of wealth? pension funds and investments stolen etc. etc. I'm fairly sure there was a huge event in New York some time in early September 2001 at the end of a previous Shmita year but I can't quite remember the date....maybe the 11th? That was a bit of a rant there (sorry, man) but the upshot of it is that I haven't regretted investing in solar or any of my other projects - my decision to go so far was met with derision and lots of 'tin foil hat' insults from some of my extended family a couple of years ago but now even the most asleep of them can see the investments in infrastructure were smart....and looking smarter each day.

I'm interested in bigger, using solar panels to power the pump. And wonder what route koi ponds will take with the rise in utility bills. I even looked at the Grundfoss 15/50 pumps yesterday and was shocked at the prices today. They were how us poor lot used to run our ponds when pond pumps for koi ponds were out of our price range....so hope you make a video on this subject at some point....would make for a very interesting video. This is great for what I'm building. I'm building a wildlife pond that's gonna be less than 600 gallons. I'm basically just digging a hole throwing a tarp on And a liner using as much natural debris as possible I'm in Kentucky US

(my other channel) That's quite a volume of water to filter so you'd likely need multiple filters of this type to keep the water clear even for a wildlife pond of that size if it is in a decent amount of sunlight, more so if there was fish in there. You should do a pimp my filter episode on this because you could easily put a pre filter sponge over the top of the intake grill, or even a suitable sized rubber hose clamped on, with a small filter box on the other end filled with course, medium, fine and some bio home. Like a diy booster filter. If you used a solar powered led flood light that shines directly onto the pumps solar panel it could keep it runnign all night.

The light from an artificial light would have to be extremely bright to run this small pump as there is so little energy contained in artificial light compared to natural sunlight. I've made a small filter from this pump in a tube with foams and media so I will film that if we get some sunny days.

Hi mate, i use solar for my little ponds.. Question sir i want to build a solar set up with bk up batt to fill a bog filter and this then cascades into the pond... Any ideas ?? Thanks mate. Edit, The pond is 25 x 12 x4ft deep. bog filter approx 40% size of pond. I have seen big solar pumps on ebay etc just looking for some professional advice. Been a fan for years, your work has inspired me to build 5 ponds so far and this will be my biggest project. Take care mate

I know very little about larger solar pumps unfortunately as when I had the shop they were just coming to market (and were not very good). I have seen a few on Ebay / amazon which have a battery back up and are around £150 - £200 but even when the battery is fully charged the pump will only run for 4-6 hours, based on a 1200 - 1600 lph pump. The smaller the pump is the longer it will run but unfortunately the battery supplied with these systems seems to scale down with the pump. Ideally you'd look for decent solar panel(s), a good size capacity battery and a low wattage sensible pump if you want long run times. I wouldn't begin to put figures on those as I don't know enough.... There's little chance of getting a 24/7 run time unless the panels are large, battery capacity is 3-4x bigger than is usually supplied with the systems........and the sun shines for most of the day to run the pump and charge the battery.

@@pondguru This is basically the same question as above but I am hoping to set up a preformed pond with smaller attachment pond/fall, the smaller of which I'd like to use as a bog filter with plants and gravel. I just want it for wildlife (no fish) but need it to remain clean/oxygenated enough to remain healthy for frogs, birds and any other critters who might want a swim or a drink. I'm just wondering if a solar pump/filter would do the trick and, if so, what wattage would be required...ideally, I'd like to attach a PVC tube to the submerged solar pump and wind it through the bog to trickle back into the pond. Would that work? Or would the tube get clogged up ? Any suggestions --or better yet a video-- would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi Pondguru (not sure what your name is). I hope you can help me/us? We retired to Thailand and had a koi pond built. We made a filter for it as you directed. Our dilemma is brown water. We started using village water( from a giant man made pond). The water is brown. We added our rain water but that didn't seem to make a difference. Can you tell us what to do to get clear water? The filter pump seems fine and we also threw in bagged charcoal. Thanks in advance.

(my other channel) Without seeing how the pond is built I have no idea what is causing the clouding but if the water is coming from a man made pond it could be clay which is clouding the water - that is very difficult to clear and could require a larger filter with finer pads to catch the particles.

I have had nothing put troubles with the solar pump I bought. Has a solar panel and a battery built in but it will not run continuously throughout the day despite it claiming that the self-contained battery will keep it running with low light. It works for 30 seconds then stops. The only way to get it to start again is to cover the solar panel and then uncover it. Turns on for another 30 seconds and then off! Very frustrating. I have opted to buy the 12V mini pump by itself. I am retrofitting an old solar panel with a charge controller and a 12V sealed led acid battery. The battery is large enough that it will run 24/7 and charge back up during the day.

Yes the flow is very low but so is the solar panel and cost - fine for a small wildlife pond and occasional fountain but not much else. However, I've made the filter mentioned in this video and it is working very well, even when the pump flow is pulsing due to low sunlight it's moving the water and will be filtering to some degree. I'll film that over the next few days as it is very cheap and simple to make.
