BLO sneaks away from the daily grind to catch some native Brook trout high up on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Unfortunately afternoon thunderstorms ran us off the mountain but still got to catch some of the most beautiful fish.

Nice fellas! Did you all also have input on the 5 footer? What are your thoughts on it vs the 5 1/2? Keep the great content coming.

I have fished with one of our friends 5 ft Rock hoppers and caught fish on it. 5 foot is great for small streams or even smaller flat water. The issue we run into with a 5 footer is the ability to keep line off the water when you are basically high sticking dry flies in small pockets. While 5 and 5.5 ft rods are niche rods for sure. In my opinion in NE GA and points north the 5.5 footer is easier to fish while still having a short rod for super small tight water. The 5 footer will do it for sure but you just reach limitations 6” sooner. Lol. If you aren’t having to keep line off the water such as slow moving creeks in many places. The 5 footer will do the job without issue as well. It’s super capable casting wise and fighting fish. Bottom line I am personally biased towards 5.5 foot small stream rods but 5-6.5 foot rods will do what you need 95% of the time. It’s that 5% that is the extreme one way or the other.

It's been wet up here in CT. My usual streams have been running a bit high on average. On the other hand plenty of water going into fall. It should be really good. Been doing Tricos on the West Branch of the Farmington.

Definitely been a good summer for trout in the south. Y’all needed the water up there when we in the north back in May. Everything was low. I have fished some solid yellow sally hatches here in September before. We might get some Octoberish caddis but it’s definitely terrestrial season at the moment.

Adam ain’t having it. I agree it’s not smart. Good luck on your trip. Send us some pics. We got a few weeks before California and Colorado in Sept. Can’t wait to watch a cutthroat eat a dry fly like it’s got all day to do it.

@@bluelineoutfitters3964 looks promising. We’ve had thunderstorms and cooler temperatures here. My favorite places are around 3,000’ in elevation so I’m probably going to hit one of them tomorrow. I’ve got the itch bad.

Kevin. I do like fishing yellow sallies but this trip was all about a black foam beetle. Which is literally nothing more than black foam folded over itself with a small piece of orange foam on top to see it. Deadly simple fly in late summer here.

Bluelineing in the smokies, cool. I'm surprised you didn't run into a bear. I will be cranking it up soon. I haven't fished much scene June, to hot for me. Enjoyed watching. 👍

Jim, crazy enough I have never saw a bear in the smokies. I know they are there and I see them a lot at my house in N. GA but I guess I am to loud and stinky to see one up there. Thanks for being a supporter of the channel.

That’s a hellbender net. They are handmade in South Carolina out of locally sourced bamboo. Pretty cool southern net company. JP Ross sells that net and you can find them on FB as well.
