Love this song! Weird Al Yankovic does a parody on his movie "UHF" that is hilarious.

Story was that a band member overheard a worker in an appliance store say the refrain about money for nothing and chicks for free

it was mark knopfler himself. he overhead a lot of these lines in this song from the worker not just those 2 you quoted.

It was Mark Knopfler in a store in New York where he was living at that time, Mark Knopfler wrote all Dire Straits songs
@jjc54072 ай бұрын
@@StevenQ74 well technically this one was co-written by Sting... but only because Mark wanted to use the tune from Sting's "Don't Stand So Close To Me" for the "I want my MTV" lyrics! When they were recording the album in Montserrat Mark commented that it would be good to get Sting to sing the lines only to be told that Sting was vacationing on the island. They invited him over to the studio and the rest, as they say, is history. There are a couple of other Dire Straits songs with shared writing credits. One is Tunnel Of Love which begins with the Carousel Waltz by Rodgers & Hammerstein. The other is What's The Matter Baby which was co-written with Mark's brother David, the band's original rhythm guitarist, and features on the Live At The BBC album.

Hello Adnan Thanks for the reaction. I heard a rumor that Mark was in a bar and overheard a conversation between some workers. They were probably talking about their boring and exhausting jobs and why they don't have a better jobs. But what Mark doesn't mention in the song is how hard it is to get to his level. He makes it sound like it's so easy for him to earn money because it's even on MTV now. He forgets that his level with the guitar, Grand Master Lever, and his whole level as a complete musician and songwriter was earned with every hour of his life with so much discipline and incredible work and dedication and so much sacrifice. Talent is not enough.

Good afternoon (from a western state in the US) Adnan. Well, you nailed another great reaction to another great song from Dire Straits. I see you have other songs from them you want to get to first, but allow me to suggest "Brothers in Arms" when you get the chance. The a capella group Home Free did an extremely beautiful and moving cover of that song. It would be worth listening to both, starting with Dire Straits of course. Best to you and your family, kf

Hello Karen, hope you are doing great. I've already check out "Brothers in Arms". You can go through my channel to see that, I better start making some playlists lol. Thank you for tuning in today, hope you had fun. P.S. I love home free, though I've only listened to their one song (man of constant sorrow). Thank you for suggesting their cover of brothers in arms, I'll definitely keep it in my list. Thank you, have a good day 🤗❤️🌹🤘

You say you play music yet you interrupt the song in the middle of the verse. Very unmusical. Very annoying.
