Organization and storage ideas for a garage or woodworking shop. Our two car garage doubles as a woodworking maker space and family storage. This shop tour gives some ideas for layout and how to maximize space for both woodworking projects and family. Of course I also go through some of my bigger tools and inspiration for an efficient shop.

I just found your channel today and I like what I see . Being a long time framer I say this with ease. I would use the whole garage for a shop and build a carport to park your vehicles under and build a shed in the backyard for the bikes , boxes , rakes ect.

Great ideas for organizing. I agree that you cannot have too much light in a wood shop. My suggestion (if you can access relatively empty garage) is to paint it white semi gloss. White makes a big difference when trying to brighten up your work space. At least if you could paint the ceiling that would be a big help.

I love your comment about the "old woodworking books"!! I was a professional woodworker from 1991-2012 and almost everything I learned was from a book or magazine. Fine Woodworking was the KZbin of the 80s through 90s!!

I sure enjoy your videos. You are very creative in whatever you put out. I'd also have to say that your garage shop has more corners than any I've ever tried to keep count of as I've taken a tour. Yup, you'd get the award for garage-woodshop creative use of space. Kudos!😎

Nick, I have seen a bunch of your video’s and think they are some of the very best. You are incredibly generous with all the details and techniques you use to create some wonderful products. I finally came across this video you produced almost a year ago of your shop. I have a two car garage shop which actually is entirely dedicated to woodworking (minus the Washer & Dryer) and even then, with all that room, trip over stuff and can’t produce nearly the same quantity of product, shoot videos, and be a father and husband. Your productivity is amazing. Thank you!

I have the same saw just a generation or two behind yours. It is the 745, which can not take a dado stack, which stinks!. I did buy a 10" radial arm saw for $50.00 and I put the dado stack on it. It's great too because I can put an 8' board down and zip right through it whereas before I used my router to make dados and rabbits which is time-consuming with all of set up, move, and set up again. So you can use the dado stack on your table saw? I love how organized your shop is! Your boys are adorable!! You three should build a mini workbench for them to make things on. Oh, by the way, in case you did not already know this, Rigid now has a space-saving miter saw with the fold-up arm at Home Depot. The 10" is $399.00 which is at least $200.00 less than the Bocsh miter saw that everyone has. I just subscribed and I can't wait to go through your past videos.

Man, that's some serious use of shop space. I have a 28 by 30 shop, and complain always of how small it is. Granted, I have some larger setups than you, my cabinet saw has a 5 x 5 foot out feed table, but when I see what you are accomplishing with you're space...amazing. Thanks for sharing. Is that a WEN air filtration unit ceiling mounted? If so, how would you rate it?

Great video. I see you likely live in Washington like my BIL. I have a mobile shop in my 2 car garage. I say mobile because I can push everything to the back and still park my minivan. I live in Wisconsin and I'm curious about rust build up on your tools. Is that a problem in the Pacific Northwest? Do you have humidity or heat? I have a portion of my garage insulated, but not the door, which I think is a big problem. I'm curious if I need to invest in other items to combat humidity to avoid rust.

Great video tour. I was very interested in your comment on the 30 Amp RV Power plug. I too recently bought the Grizzly 860 Dust Collector and have been in conversation with Grizzly support about the same issue of the blowing breaker on startup. They act as if no one has ever brought this issue to their attention. I have mine on a dedicated 20 amp breaker and about 1 in 10 startups it blows. I am interested if you could enlighten me more on what exactly you did to remedy this issue. My electrician has not figured it out and will enjoy your input as well. TIA, Roger
@SixEightWoodworks
@SixEightWoodworks 2 жыл бұрын
You bet. Came across the idea from the comments section on Grizzly’s website. Added a 30 Amp outlet, then use an RV adapter for the dust collector. If you pause the video when I’m showing the unit, you can see the yellow adapter. Best of luck!
@rebeccabourland2390
@rebeccabourland2390 2 жыл бұрын
@@SixEightWoodworks Nick, So let me see if I understand what you did. You installed a 30 Amp Breaker and outlet and used the RV converter plug in order to not rewire the male plug from the 860, is that correct? I am familiar with the RV conversion plug. No problems thereafter? I usually always run the collection on only one machine at a time.
