Nice job, I'm in a small space also. Something I've come to appreciate about drawers and lockers over the years in different shop spaces is how they cut down on visual stimulation. For me the less visual stimulation the easier it is to focus and in a sense the space seems quiet, or quieter.

On drawers, I think Adam Savage was talking more about the people who DON'T organize them, than the machinists or others who methodically put everything back in the same stops at the end of a project or day. I just recently got a tool chest and that thing is NICE. It helped me organize a bunch of stuff and even get rid of quite a few tools I don't need. When I get another one, I'll organize the stuff a bit more, but right now this thing is perfect
@carpenter1138 Жыл бұрын
Agreed, also as a guy who has worked in and managed several professional shops I think woodworkers deal with way more dust (sawdust in our case) than anyone else so drawers and closing cabinets make way more sense to us. Adam Savage is more multi-material and also eclectic in nature - I think he likes to be able to "see" all his tools.

Very nice shop tour. I love how you take a small space and customize it to your needs. Im in the process of doing that myself. I started a few years ago with my "shop" on my deck and a 8"x10" metal shed in the back yard. Then I moved to a large storage unit with 1 outlet and no AC ( Love Tennessee summers here..hot!). Now I'm in a 1 car garage like you (well technically a large 2 car but wife's car eats up 1/2 of it lol). Now with the weather cooling Im hoping to finally get the shop organized and set up. New to your channel. I realize this is 3 years old, but nice shop! I'm currently setting up in a 14'x19' garage, 9' ceilings, no heat, 2 power lines. Doing it on an extremely tight budget. After insulating, I'm ale to heat with a single space heater. I have to power it off while cutting, lol. I'm actually loving the smaller space though. Less area to clean/loose tools in. My Dryer is right on the other side of the wall so I appreciate the idea of tapping that 220. Didn't occur to me. We own so I'll add more lines eventually. I have a similar layout for dust collection. I'm using similar LED lighting. I agree about the bench-top drill press, jointer, anti-fatigue mats and drawers. Love the "tool wall" drawers and pipe clamp storage! Thanks for the ideas!
