I find the way you put it, “Small work big idea”, fascinating. Especially for artists who are contemplating a change of direction in their artistic adventure, painting a small canvas to explore the possibilities of a new concept is both necessary and effective. Although the canvas is small, but a breakthrough could come out of it. An example is the painting “Talisman “ painted by a French painter Paul Sérusier in 1888 under the guidance of Gaugin at Pont-Aven in Brittany.

Hi, May I ask if you regard these works as works on their own, as in finished? For me they could all be sold as they are. Also, are you able to turn the style of this format into a bigger image? I feel it might get lost in trying to translate it or scale it up because suddenly you no longer get to use the same techniques or even spontaneity. Interested in your views on this. Much obliged for showing us your great work, great Art and great videos. Have a nice day everyone…. :).

Thanks for the tip about pebeo masking fluid. I had given up on them but am convinced to give it another try. I've never used pebeo.

Happy I came across your channel yesterday, Alison. I am a batik artist through and through and love to see how you use that Pebeo drawing gum just like wax resist in batik on paper and canvas. I will now incorporate these in my paintings. Thank you for your generosity in teaching what you know so well.

great to hear from you--yes, I often think the layered masking is like batiking though I've never done it. Glad you found this helpful

Wot beautiful work. so much useful stuff here it is a rewatch must. however foolishly, I have issued myself a 365 collages in one year challenge. I am at no 76 in some serious sense attempted, often as 5 or 6 in a series at a time, using my own painted or printed papers. many need refining/more layers and so your vid really spoke to me. also the small scale. i have been doing 12 by 12 inch, but hey i make the rules!
