@@Level80Paladinz I agree because I in general hate when people make big sweeping comments about culture/food/media. Like you can just say all anime or manga is weird, but I’d like to judge for myself. Personally, I’ve found most of it weird but really liked the Berserk manga and Studio Ghibli movies for example. You miss out on so much when you just put everything in the same category.

@@denusklausen3685I think he was just referring to the more perverted side of weeb culture in Japan. He lives in Japan so I’m sure he doesn’t think the whole culture is based on figures of naked anime women. Tbh when you’re in those stores in Japan I get the same weird, almost seedy vibe of having kid stuff next to borderline/not borderline hentai. @@RosfieldCont A hotel room you can rent by the hour, multiple hours, or night. Some look normal, some have "themes". You can meet a lady at a bar, bang, then go back home to your wife. Some legit couples have trouble at home, so they go here as well. Lots of Japanese live with your parents in tiny spaces, often all sleeping in the same room. Kinda hard to get busy when can reach out and touch your mom and your child at the same time. Had a friend who used to go to them with her other friends for parties as well. Pretty sure that's not normal though.. Lots of them have super privacy, you can enter and exit without ever meeting another living soul.

You got a maid cafe mixed up with a host club. Host clubs are what you described and can have male or female hosts, whereas a maid cafe is usually much more family friendly (gonna assume there's probably a few that are more adult oriented) and operates the same way a regular cafe would except the servers have idol type personas. They will do small dancing and singing performances throughout the day and you wouldn't pay them to spend time with you, but you can pay for photos with them and I believe the also sell merch.

Haven't been to Osaka yet, but have definitely seen enough "redlight" districts in South Korea and Japan to know (and I had a BIG laugh at what you were walking into with the "sex theatre")...those places exist in the backrooms of "Adult Bookstores" along the American interstates, too, btw. What I loved about Tokyo, Enoshima, and the majority of of Yamanashi was that there are these little pockets of stores, ryoukans (traditional hotels), onsen spas, and attractions that are straight out of the 1970's and 1980's! It's not just a 'retro' feeling/vibe for some, but its a true NOSTALGIAC experience for early 40 year olds like me... I'm glad the older stuff hasn't been washed away yet...the color schemes, the aesthetics, the smells...The ryoukan and surrounding community I stayed at in 2019 while I was hiking Mt. Fuji was so 1980's, it felt like I was literally living in that era. That might be bad for some younger folks, but for me, it really hit the spot....stayed an extra 5 days, just to live inside it some more.

Overall, Japan's love of appreciation itself is admirable to say the least. The very concept of liking things. They go all in. In Tokyo, we found a store dedicated to vintage rock magazines, fanzines, etc. That's it. Shelves & shelves of only vintage rock magazines & fan club materials, well organized & packed in, with photos of huge musicians you'll never see anywhere else, all in pristine condition. They go ALL IN. Whatever it is.

Hahaha I don't know if I'm too innocent but the dolls at the beginning are so cool, those are articulated dolls and they're awesome, we grow up with barbie dolls over here who can't move or who barely move, those ball-jointed dolls can move all over the place and you can customize them with their eyes and hair, and you paint their makeup and dress them. I'm too old for one now, I still kind of want one just because I never had one when I was young... but dang I wanted one so bad when I was young. If only I could have afforded one.

There is a hidden culture in every culture or even subculture. I have experienced this a lot in exploring my own city and identity. I feel like a lot of the human brain is conditioned to think or feel a certain way towards things that they dont fully understand. The concept that something is weird or foreign and therefore should be considered dicey or disgusting to me is just representative of that same conditioning. Like walking into a theatre of trans people or gay men that are doing their thing and then shunning them for it is like unwarranted ostracizing. Those people were just doing what made them happy and they assumed you were there under the same pretense. It might be a strange concept to you but to some people that is what makes them happy and keeps them going in this hellish reality we live in. I enjoyed this video but I feel like the way people approach weird topics like this is what alienates those who are entrenched in them to begin with
