I could sit here an hour and tell you all the good things about my 605.I have bathed mine in Ballistol a few times and now it's even better than buttery smooth as far as the trigger and hammer action.Yea,put some bright orange finger nail polish on the front sight,I can tell you from experience,improves target pick up 100%.Aslo I find the best and most potient ammo without using 357 Magnum is Remington 38 Special +P hollowpoints.Maybe a bit louder and just a tad more vibration in your hand but you can shoot that all day through the 605 and it has an incredible impact on whatever it hits.

Find a good holster is the only negative side to the 605. It's similar to the Taurus Mod 85 but still just a bit bigger. So most Kydex holsters will not work without modification. I found a couple of leather holsters. Winthrop's OWB holster is a good value but it's a bit too soft for my taste. The best leather holster has been the Bianchi Remedy 57 (Item 1093887) and Amazon has it for $38

I’ve had mine for a few years and love it. The only gripe I have is that the factory grip has serrations on the back that hurt when shooting .357. I usually load .38+P and the grips are fine. I tried new grips but the ones I ordered over the internet made the gun considerable larger and I can’t pocket carry with them on it, so I switched back. I’m thinking of trying to sand those serrations off. Without them the grip would be perfect.

I own a S&W 640, a Ruger LCR, a Ruger SP-101, and a Taurus 605. I love them all, but I would not recommend any of them as a self defense weapon for a new shooter. J-frame revolvers are weapons for experienced shooters. They are great guns for those who have had lots of training and/or experience.
@SmallCaliberArmsReview3 жыл бұрын
Everything I've heard or read, recommends revolvers for new or inexperienced shooters. Years ago I was government trained with a revolver, much simpler operation and highly reliable.
@johnelder42733 жыл бұрын
@@SmallCaliberArmsReview I too was initially trained on a revolver as a federal officer. I strongly support a K-frame revolver, like a model 10 S&W for a novice shooter. But J-frame revolvers take a lot of dedicated practice to become truly proficient. Most novice shooters are not going to put in the practice necessary to defend themselves and their families with a j-frame. J-frames, especially airweight versions are unpleasant to shoot to a novice. While a K-frame S&W model 10, or a model 66, are an absolute joy to shoot. I believe a k-frame. 357 is the best revolver for beginners as they can start out shooting .38 specials and move up to .357 magnum ammo once they are more competent, without the need to spend additional money on a new gun. Their money is best spent on practice ammo. Just my opinion, but based on 30 years of law enforcement including training a lot of new shooters as a District Firearms Instructer.

I just bought the 605 Poly-Defender with 2 inch, and 357 is almost too much of a handful for the light weight. I also bought the 605 Defender in steel with 3 inch pipe. The extra weight is a huge bonus for controlling the 357 loads. I'm thinking my girlfriend will end up with the Poly and I'll use the 3 inch, and run 38 in both for everyday carry, that way either of us can grab whichever is closest and use it well. There are some crowds that find a wheelgun to be much less intimidating if they happen to see it. But we will still carry our Taurus 9's for most other applications. Good review!

Wolff sells a Taurus Mod 85 spring kit that can really lighten up trigger pulls. I replaced the trigger spring and mainspring and that made a huge difference. I later went back to the factory mainspring as I think it probably would have led to some light primer strikes. I never did test it however. After the full mod, the DA pull was buttery smooth and very light. The SA was scary light but it broke like glass. Even with just the trigger spring upgrade, it makes a pretty noticeable difference in pull weight. I may go back to the lighter weight and try out my PDX 357MAG ammo to see if there are any problems.

Interesting you recommend this for beginners. I have 9s and 22s, will soon get a 38 Charter Arms Off Duty, but I also yearn for a true one shot manstopper so I’m thinking of this. But I thought I’d ask, aren’t you losing a lot of 357’s true potential (I.e. ballistics, powder burn, etc) in these snubs, vs say 3 or 4 inches? I’m also thinking of 10 mm, but the g29 and g20 is pricier, bulkier, and it’s semi auto which could be a drawback. Thanks.
@SmallCaliberArmsReview5 ай бұрын
Shot placement has more to do with stopping power than caliber. Yes, the short barrels loose a lot of energy and velocity, but aid in comfort and concealability. There is no perfect firearm, you just have to weigh the benefits of each. Thanks for watching!

Great video on the next one for me. Nice holster, beautiful in fact but tell me why you left the trigger well exposed? I figure you’ve got a reason that I’m not aware of.
@SmallCaliberArmsReview2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I usually make Western holsters for single action revolvers and those triggers are left exposed. I also saw some photos of a leather holster that was old, worn out and the leather had pushed against the trigger when it was being re-holstered. That bit of leather that was supposed to be covering the trigger, ended up pushing the trigger and shooting the owner. The holster in the photos I saw, was for a semi auto pistol. A double action revolver is going to take much more pressure to work the action, I'm pretty sure an accidental discharge while holstering won't be a problem. Trigger finger discipline with a holster like this is a must. Thanks for watching!
@2greeksandacamera2 жыл бұрын
@@SmallCaliberArmsReview Thanks you taught me something very valuable. We make holsters also but forgot how Cisco and others shoot so fast. It is best to not mold a holster to shape around the trigger. There should be clearance of the trigger itself as it covers the trigger well.
@SmallCaliberArmsReview2 жыл бұрын
@@2greeksandacamera I'm not saying that what I'm doing it right or wrong, I'm just saying how I do it. Ultimately it's up to the user and the care they take in the use of their weapon and holster. I have heard and seen horror stories with all kinds of holsters and many times it was user error. I enjoy making them but almost never make them for sale.
