People forget that firearms are just tools. The 605 is a quality .357, that is cheap, amazingly accurate, and reliable. It has become my preferred carry gun

I completely agree, they are tools. As with all tools you can pay more for fancier or even better quality, but if it works it works. I find Taurus products to be a good blend of utility and economy. A great value all in all.

Sure loving my 605 Poly. I’m a pastor and as such I see everything while speaking. With the churches permission I carry while I preach and teach. Sad to need to do this but these days….. “36 He (Jesus) said to them, "But now let the one who has a moneybag take it, and likewise a knapsack. And let the one who has no sword (for defense) sell his cloak and buy one.” Luke 22.

After shooting the .357 rounds, the .38 round is like shooting a .22. .357 for home defense .38 for plinking.

Bought a 605 Poly a few weeks ago and love everything about it. Single action is a dream and double action is stiff but very manageable. After about 175 .38 and 50 .357 a good cleaning and oiling it loosened up very nicely. $284.00 out the door with military and ASO credit card. It’s a steal.

this would be a good woods or hiking gun. there are some black bears and wild cats around northern pennsylvania so the 357 mag should do be plenty of power for protection. and 38 special for home defense or ccw. good combo

1) Any concerns that the built-in lock part could eventually swing into locked position on it's own due to recoil? 2) Any concerns that 357 loses a lot of it's potential, velocity, powder burn, etc, out of the short (2" and less) vs 3, 4 + inches?

You had to go with a 158gr? I find the 110-125gr significantly more managable. I did experience a cylinder stop issue sent it in to taurus and they did a stellar job on the trigger. The Taurus magicians did wonders to the lockup. The cylinder snicks into position and about .20" squeeze drops the hamnmer. It's perfectly synchronized. I urge you to consider sending it in. It's like a new gun. And what a job .357 does! Cinder block get hammered into dust and I shot up a stainless coated ceramic skillet, Such fun! Love your Reviews and you seem to enjoy shooting for the same reasons I do price being irrelevant, and for the sheer love of outdoors. Your series and indepth look delivered in several parts on the PA HP 22 is great stuff as well. I also own an HP22 and what a hoot! I sent the HP in for repairs and they said it was beyond repair and sent me a new gun. I now double up on the recoil springs and shoot hot stuff with no ill effect to the chassis.

I agree with you, all things equal I prefer 110 or 115 grain sjhp. To be honest, I enjoy shooting all firearms and find that budget options generally shoot just as well as higher priced ones. (Obviously not always the case). Firearms are like musclecars, the amount you spend brings diminishing returns on the increase in performance. A gun that costs twice as much as another is rarely twice as good. As far as the HP series from Phoenix, I think they are great guns and an excellent value. Thanks for watching and I am glad you are enjoying the channel.

I have the 605 Poly and its my primary EDC (that I pocket carry), I will say shooting .357 through it can be a bit bruising, so I rarely do, although I do carry it loaded with .357. My biggest piece of advice is dry-fire the hell out of it in DA because you're gonna need to build up your trigger finger (I sure did!). That being said, I've been able to shoot it pretty well (by my standards) and I actually like the trigger now that I'm used to it.

...like the Taurus 605 "concept" in the easier to obtain 9mm calibre = the Taurus 905: has more oomph than the 605's .38 Special & doesn't have the excessive blinding .357 Magnum muzzle blast / fireball. That 905 uses moon-clips (.380 ACP can be used too), but it can operate w/o them as well. Nice to have a backup carry piece that chambers the same rimless ammo that the main Nina Ross uses.

It looks like a good deal compared to something from S&W or Ruger. But in stock form, for concealed carry, the 605 needs work. That double-action trigger is too heavy. It's going to need a trigger job to both lighten that pull and smooth it out. 12 pounds is ridiculous. I'm sorry, but it is. 8 pounds would be more ideal, and the trigger pull would still be heavy enough to prevent accidental discharge. That hammer needs to be bobbed since it's not shrouded. Whether in a pocket-carry holster or in a belt rig, last thing needed is that exposed hammer getting hang up on clothing. A gun like this, isn't realistically going to be used single-action anyway; except on the range. And those grips.... Depending on the load used, they're decent. But looking into aftermarket ones about the same size but better shaped would be worth the effort and the money. Simplest modification would be removing a bit of the black finish from the front sight and applying a touch of orange paint to it for quicker sight alignment. Honestly, there are offerings from other brands that have all of the above already taken care of from the factory. (Except the orange paint. But they use a colored tritium tube on the front sight.) For a Home Defense gun, a bigger revolver that's easier to shoot and gives you an extra round or two in the cylinder; that's going to be a better option. A six round cylinder compared to a five is an increase of 20%. In stock form as an inexpensive Truck gun, it's good for that. Maybe for something purchased to teach a slightly older and responsible child how to shoot and safely handle a handgun. But honestly, a used Ruger LCR Model 5450 in good condition is going to be a better bet for concealed carry. After everything is done to the 605 to make it suitable for everyday concealed carry, the price ends up looking less of a good bargain.
@leonaddison6862
@leonaddison6862 Жыл бұрын
The trigger having a heavy trigger pull is smart for the gun owners safety so no accidents. It's heavy so you only pull it when its really time to shoot it. Rather it be heavy for safety concern than lite trigger honestly just opinion.

@CraigsGunChannel
@CraigsGunChannel 4 жыл бұрын
I am not positive if I understand your question completely. If you are meaning the part that you use to push the ejector/extractor out and that also essentially holds the cylinder onto the yoke it is called the Extractor Rod. It threads onto the Extractor which goes through the cylinder. If you have access to a computer I would recommend you try the Numrichs website. A search for Numrichs online should get you there. On their site you should be able to find a parts schematic listing all the parts.

Have no idea what screw you are referring to but go to numrich gun parts. You will be able to pull up a parts schematic on the 605 and order what you need. So I am guessing you might mean the yoke screw. Not sure of the size but dont use a regular screw as the yoke screw has a special end that fits into groove. Also I have had good luck with Taurus customer service on parts. I know some have not but they have always helped me. Worth a shot at least.

These are know to come loose on this model. It is recommended to use blue loctite on it. You could call Taurus customer service. But if you're lucky, they might send you one for free. But in my encounters with them, it will probably take several months to get it. I ordered 2 magazines from them and it took several calls and over 10 months for them to finally get them to me. And I tried using their "life time" warranty 2 different times. What a joke! Taurus bent over backwards not to honor it. To be very blunt- Taurus customer service is the WORST in the business! They are rude, unhelpful assholes!

Forgive me in advance, but my opinion is 100% of your problems shooting in double action are due to your shooting single action. One of the first instructors I learned from back in the 1980’s told me, "Every time you shoot your revolver in single action you lose an opportunity to practice your double action trigger pull." We all know that is most likely how you’ll use the gun to defend yourself so just stop shooting in single action and focus entirely on the double action pull. That has alway stuck with me. So much so I rarely shoot single action. I’m by no means an excellent shot with a snub nosed .357, but I am better than many and that I attribute to the lesson I learned long ago. I think Taurus has done a lot to repair the old image of poor quality and the 3" 856 defender is an wonderful gun I like to carry occasionally. I usually carry the 130gr Federal HST 38 Spl +P. I don’t have a 605 but if I did I would carry a .38 Spl +P over a .357, but that’s just my preference. Thanks for your video and the time to make it, I found it entertaining.
@CraigsGunChannel
@CraigsGunChannel 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and I am glad you enjoyed it. You are of course correct that shooting single action does not allow you to ever get better at double action. I have shot for so many years and so many thousands of rounds primarily in single action I tend to thumb the hammer back on instinct now.

Its been 3 weeks they called and said they took it apart and nothing is wrong with it. It's on its way home now. Well I'll run some ammo through it see what's up. I oiled the hell out of it before I sent it and the cylinder release button worked real smooth, at first you could barely push it. The cylinder had to push a hair to lock it in, after oil it was working basically normal. But that trigger still wanted to stop not pull through now and then. Maybe it was just something stupid and needed to be taken apart and put back together ?? Well I'll find out soon.

@@CraigsGunChannel 3 weeks it's home. They said they took it apart and ran 10 rounds of 357 through it and they said there's nothing wrong with this gun. I just dry fired 50-60 times and the trigger didn't lock up once. This may have been just one of those dumb things where you take it apart put back together and works fine thing. That would be a usual acceptable answer in my world. I'm going in beginning of June to range run 100 Rounds through it. But at the moment appears all is good. Definitely wasn't my imagination after random number of pulls that trigger pulled three quarters of the way and stopped, you could use 2 hands and the trigger would not pull through until you let up and repulled it. So that's what Taurus Repair in Bainbridge, Georgia did and said, and that's what's up.
@CraigsGunChannel
@CraigsGunChannel 3 жыл бұрын
@@Geobh1 i think you may be right, sometimes just opening it up and putting something back together can fix an intermittent issue. That of course generally means stacking tolerances are either very tight, or just at the edge of too loose. Either way it will likely be fine now. Things like that can be very frustrating. Good luck on the range session.

You had a premature evaluation. Maybe the video should of been made after getting use to shooting the gun. What happens is that you give off a bad perception on shooting the gun to potential buyers. Shooting is subjective to the individual. I would think bringing in experience to evaluate the gun must include experience shooting it as that is very important than just noting specs that all videos reviewers provide and even the manufacture website. Appreciate the efforts to produce this content.
