This was built in early December, 2020. Lucas worked on three different designs until he was able to reach this TINY 4x6x9 functional version.
He also made a very compact expandable version of this 3x3 glass hipster door around the same time which I might feature on a separate video. Hope you enjoyed it!

The description claims that this is 4x6x9 when it is in fact 4x5x9 making it the same size as the former smallest 3x3 hipster!

@@MaizumaGames Floor doesn’t count as an extra layer since none of the non-door blocks need to be solid. So even if the door blocks have to be solid it doesn’t add an extra layer.

I use a simple metric by asking the question: Will this door still work if I remove this layer ? In this case you can see the solid blocks are used multiple times (especially at around 1:06 to grab the top row of glass blocks). So it counts. Counting the floor always matters because other designs *actually* don't use the floor at all which is not the case for this door as amazing as it is.

And you're right, this one was designed specifically with maximum compactness in mind so it's not really practical in survival. Still impressive as a build!

Piston doors like these come from the competitive redstone community where their goal is to beat records such as compactness (usually slow) or speed (usually giant). Such builds are purely conceptual and it's supposed to be looked at more as art than a practical device for survival.
