Really makes you appreciate the old school players like Hogan, Jack, etc when they played those tiny persimmon driver heads and hit them as straight as an arrow with ease.

That was fun to see. Kind of reminds me of my first and second sets of clubs. My first I purchased at K-Mart. Wilson Blue Ridge Irons and woods complete set and a brass smooth face putter. I changed those out a few years latter for Slotline irons because they were cheap enough and I hit them better than the Wilson irons. I had previously purchased a slot line putter which I loved so the slot line " Science" made sense to me at that time. Thanks for the memories Rick . Cheers.

Reminds me of the set I bought in the 80's; Spaulding Executives. Had a set of 1,3,5, and 7 wood; along with 3 through SW irons.Since I only play about 12 9-hole rounds a season, I played those clubs until 2012 when everyone else had switched to oversized drivers. On the last hole at Whitnall Park, I borrowed somebody's driver on the dogleg 9th hole. I smashed it about 30 yards further and straighter. I couldn't help uttering Will Smith's line from Independence Day, "I gotta get me one of these!".
@badmuppet65324 жыл бұрын
The smaller head of the driver which is more like an old wooden driver is one of the main reasons shots used to go a shorter distance. Golfers used to have to power down in order to get more accurate strikes on clubs with a smaller surface area and very little forgiveness. Nowadays the heads allow players to just go for it as they in no way have to be as accurate.

Great vid Rick. If a golf pro with your amazing swing can't hit them then I'd have a complete nightmare with them!! However, I'm sure if I used them as a training aid over time my ball striking would improve and the confidence I would have when I pick up my own clubs again would be massive. I'd like to see a tour pro hit them in a mini match with you; someone like Eddie Pepperell who I think is a brilliant ball striker.

This concept right here is why I tried and succeeded to play a decent round of golf with not just blades in the bag but I’ve been to edge wooden headed driver and Threewood I had lying around and now I’m loving the blades that I have and I’m hitting my big headed driver way better since doing it and I was lasering them with the wooden headed driver and Threewood You’re definitely going to be on the money with them old clubs Because when you’re not it goes pretty much like that small driver. Might actually have to give these training aids a go

@jdhrap4 жыл бұрын
Oh dude!!! I wished I would have known you were doing this. I’m in the States. I bought a club called PSP “The Little One” about 10 years ago. I still use it on the range. You made several comments that I am all too familiar with. “It makes the ball look like a tennis ball.” Yes! But also after hitting the club a half dozen times and you go back to normal club. The normal club looks like that 800cc driver you used recently. The normal club just looks gigantic in comparison. So that’s one. Second is I am fairly confident that due to its small size the small club face is turning on the ball MUCH quicker in the swing thus those wicked “draws.” So when I hit mine (it’s about 7-8 iron-ish)...I either set the ball back in my stance a little or open the face slightly and then you start seeing the pure shots. I noticed you made no corrections thus the “fore left” shots. But I was laughing out loud with you. When I first saw the club I was in tears laughing. What possible use can this have? But after about 10 years with it on the range...if you can groove your swing into a fine oiled consistent swing on those little clubs...once you pull out the normal clubs the confidence level in your vision is going to improve your game. It took me several range sessions to not hozzle or toe shots with the PSP. But after it helped get my swing on a repeatable path I have loved it since. The driver would be interesting to use. I don’t see how having 2 small head irons would help. I’ll hit my PSP and then go to wedges, 8i, 5i etc and that psychological boost is there. Great video!

I remember back about 22-23 years ago when Ping launched the TiSI which at the time was a 300cc clubhead and we all thought it was giant. One of my friends called it a soup can on a stick. We had been usingTitelist drivers that had 275cc clubheads and Titelist Bulls Eye putters with micro-dot sized sweetspots. And we played just fine! So I wanna know, Rick, why you can hit a modern 3 metal with a 250cc clubhead without an issue but you can't hit a 300cc driver? It does not compute.
