Thanks, Steve. No, it's a mish-mash taken from a photo of a British Navy Stoker combined with a US Navy sailor. Not historically accurate. It is however based on the real guy. www.snopes.com/fact-check/frank-rocky-fiegel-popeye/

You sculpted quite a 'dixie cup' at 3:45 haha what's so cool about it is I understand the US Navy sailors often "sculpted" their own hats to personalize them and make them their own. I guess no two were the same! Anyway, I really like the idea of pre-shading lights and shadows with flesh tones out of an airbrush. Seems like you can cut to the chase faster than pre-shading using black and white. See you in the next one! :D

Thanks, man! Pre-shading is one of the many techniques I use. I'll probably do a video on other ways of prepping and painting figures as well... ie: acrylics and enamels.

Is lacquer thinner safe to use indoors without an extractor? I know lacquer paints themselves REALLY need both a respirator and an extractor, but what about Mr levelling thinner with normal acrylic paints, would a mask be fine on its own?

I'd say no unless you have a good source of ventilation from a window. MLT is just as harsh smelling as regular lacquer thinner it's just a lot less hot. I'd say at minimum try and open a window with a respirator on and don't use it near a furnace or anywhere that could ignite something.

I was never the biggest fan of the Popeye cartoons, but this isn't really anything to do with them. It looks like a nice sculpt. Great work so far, he looks like he's coming along just fine. Great vid thanks for sharing and looking forward to next part.
