Thinking about the same thing, one thing I'm worried about is having my garage door opening while I'm not aware. So next step for me is to get an IP Camera with a screenshot notification to my phone when the garage door opens and I'm not in the home zone

@@SmartHomeMakers Had a similar set up also, used Like Aaron, have a wyze, Neos Cam to monitor the door. Had a few issues with the door opening randomly, still not figured out if it was Tasmota causing the issue or if my wifi was to busy any knocking it off and on the network. For the time being, till I can figure it out, I set up a kill switch that turns the garage power off. So even if the switch fires, the garage wont open.

Nice work! I just installed a Shelly 1 onto my Chamberlain garage door and have it working mint as across the local and wide area networks (cell network). Shelly supports Alexa and now I can just have Alexa open and close the garage with voice commands. I dont run a manual switch to open and close the door, I only use FOBs. I installed my Shelly 1 behind the panel door on the Chamberlain and used the 30VDC supply with in the Chamberlain to power the Shelly, this was very straight forward and didnt require any longer cable runs etc. When doing the install this way the only thing to check is that the Chamberlain (or any door opener) is not set to a "low power mode" as the 30vdc supply will turn off after a while, meaning that the Shelly will go off line.

Thanks for sharing the info! Did you check that no one can shout from outside "Alexa open garage door" ?

@@SmartHomeMakers Not as such but I don't run any active microphones or Dots in my Alexa set up. I have to hold the "Home" button on my cell phone before Alexa can be enabled to listen for prompts. If someone, unbeknown to me, manages to log into my Alexa account then I may have some problems.....🤔

I'm also starting with home assistant and youtube just recommended this channel. Your videos are very helpfull to guide me on my first steps. I'm still gathering some sensores to collect some data to trigger my automations. Now waiting for a temperature sensor and a smart plug to controll bedroom heater. Maybe a shelly one could help on that :)

When I deploy Sensors on a Garage Roll Door I will typically modify a Wireless Reed Switch Contact to use a Tilt Switch so there is no fumbling around with Magnets. A Long press would be better so you don't open the door by accident.

Hello, I have it wired up to normally open reed switch so when the door closes, it passes power to the SW input of the shelly one. What do i need to change in the script to get it to reverse? Thank you for this! I am using your code and followed the directions however, my button only actuates the relay when the reed switch is open (garage door is closed)? This makes it impossible to close the garage door when it is open via the button. Any ideas?

Mmh, my shelly device and button are wired in parallel. Every tap on the button or from the app acts in the same way. My garage opener hasn't got an open or close, just move
@Anewtube4you3 жыл бұрын
I think I have the reverse situation, but it seems related. My reed switch is closed when the garage is closed. The button card as set up in the video correctly works to open the garage, then display the open garage icon. A second tap on this same button has no effect. If I long press the button, I get that contextual menu that has the details tab and the up arrow, square and down arrow button like at 1:13 in the video. If I press the square button, the garage closes straight away. Something is not right in the code.

Thanks for the overview. I added a reed switch that is activated when the door is in the closed position. My thinking was that unless my door was all the was closed, it couldn't trigger the sensor -- so if something obstructed the closing of the door, I wouldn't get a false reading the door was closed when it was not. Long story short, when I follow your tutorial, the state of my entity is reversed. Door shows closed when open, and vise versa. I don't see a way to reverse this in home assistant or in the Shelly app. Any suggestions?

I couldn't get your code working for hours, but finally figured out what the issue was since a cover wants "open" or "closed" for a value, not "on" or "off" (like the binary sensor): value_template: "{{ states('binary_sensor.garage_door_sensor') }}" had to be: value_template: >- {% if is_state('binary_sensor.garage_door_sensor','on') %} open {% else %} closed {% endif %}

Leonardo, thank you for well presented presentation. I'm 71 year old old school industrial electronics technician. I just finished a load, lock out, project on a back up generator instalation. It is a 26 bedroom guest house with 30 Aircon units and 10 Geysers. In South Africa the electricity supplier Eskom can not generate enough electricity for the demand at all times and will randomly load shed big areas to decrease the demand. It happens that some days some areas will have no electricity for 12 hours in 3 hour shifts. I developed a system that will drop all the air-conditioners and the geysers from the load (4 units for the 40 devices) and lock them out while the generator runs. At the moment, when the Utility electricity comes back, each unit must be restore with a local button to over ride the lock out. I'm looking at automating the utility electricity restored action. Thank you for the information you shared with us. I will also add a sensor to indicate system restoration separate from the switching action.
