Unfortunately all I can do is turn on/off Bose. It doesn't support volume or changing channels, but I believe that is due to the particular speaker I have.... I’m so disappointed with my SmartThings hub. It doesn’t support the few smart devices I have so far! I bought C by GE bulbs and a plug, Govee light strips and a Wyze cam which NONE are supported by the hub! Ugghhhh! I still don’t understand why I need a hub if the devices I have are supported by my voice assistant (Google). I understand it supports Z Wave and Zigbee which are common in a lot of inexpensive smart devices, but our home just isn’t big enough to where I need motion sensors and a bunch of cameras and lights and stuff. I don’t know. I’m just so frustrated. All the research I’ve done and I still don’t understand what I need. Hell my Philips Hue BT bulbs won’t even connect to my Google home OR SmartThings!!! I bought a freaking Philips Hue Bridge hoping the BT bulbs will at least connect to that and then MAYBE I can connect them to my Google Minis but damn, I shouldn’t have to! I’ve just realized that all these devices have issues and the “resolution” to then is to unplug or cut off and plug back in or cut back on, reboot it or do a FACTORY RESET?! That’s all these different devices tell you and if that doesn’t work you’re screwed!! We even doubled our internet speeds just to be able to accommodate building a smarthome, and I feel like my hours and hours of time and research were for nothing. Everything’s just so dang jumbled. 😭😖😭

Thanks for the video, was very comprehensive on why you need a hub ; My question is, if you already have a hub, such as Echo Plus 2nd gen, then you get a smartthings hub, those devices such as Samsung sensors, Axis blinds, that are already managed by the Echo plus thru Zigbee, do you unpair them, then repair them with the new smartthings control instead i.e. you can only have one 'hub' controller ? Also another quick question : Does smarthings allow you to do more with 2019/2020 Samsung TV's, currently you have basic on/off/mute functionality, does smartthings allow you to do more such as selecting a particular app etc.. ?

Biggest benefit of having a hub of some sort I see is that you are independent.. - of whatever screwed the morning of XYZ company's CEO that he decided to dump whole smart things project. - of XYZ's CFO that he decided that customers now have to pay $.10 for every single use of let's say switch, or if they need more than 10 devices. Making you immune to corporate cr@p and greedy decisions.

Question: there are so-called multi - mode hubs. Can those deal with Zigbee devices and non-Zigbee devices like the Tuya/SmartLife devices I already use? Some expert feedback is very appreciated 😊
@mohammedgafoor8543 Жыл бұрын
I have a few questions: 1a) How do Smart hubs actually communicate with devices - do they talk them via your router (assuming they are wifi devices) or do they form a direct connection to the devices themselves? 1b) Following on from 1a, do Hubs create their own "wifi network" that the wifi devices connect to, or do the wifi devices all still connect to your home wifi network. 1c) Also linked to the first two: If you have a mesh wifi system for your home internet, so that all your devices around your house get a good connection, does a smart hub render this redundant for your smart devices (i.e. if the smart hub communicates directly with the devices instead of via your home mesh wifi network). 2) How are devices added to hubs - do the devices first have to be added via the manufacturer's own software, and then linked in to the hub?

I also have routines set up in google home such as "Shower Time" where it dims my lights, plays music and turns on the fan. As a newbie, would a hub save you from having to reconnect all your devices should your home router change? And can an old router be used as a hub that is connected to say, my home Virgin router?
@HifiCentret2 жыл бұрын
Old question I know. But power users typically change the SSID (name) and password of the wifi from the default provided by the ISP - if not right down use their own equipment. That way equipment using wifi directly just reconnect without any trouble - some times there's an app on the phone that needs to be aware of a new local IP address but that's about it. That said gateways has many benefits - and even dumb ones as Tuya, eWeLink (Sonoff) and the cheapest Homey Bridge they do take load of your router. The trafic is not the issue but with each devices comes a lot of handshaking which can slow it down and typically cheap consumer routers can't handle an endless amount. By using a hub/gateway there's only one connection to the router and further communication to end devices is done by a protocol optimized for frequent small data "chatter".

Hey so I've been doing home automation for a while now but use a lot of the cheap WiFi bulbs and LED strips which currently all connect straight to my Virgin Media router. But as you can expect my router is getting quite full. Can I use the Samsung smartthings hub to connect all my WiFi bulbs to limit the devices on my router? I currently use smartlife app to control them

Hey, great video. Most of my smart home devices are smart life and I don't think that I can link them to smart thing hub. Is there any other hub which would work for me? Thanks, Tom

Thanks! Hmmm I'm not sure off the top of my head. I'll have to look into that.
