@@EricDeLaRosa I don't think they are trying to be a 100% replacement for Home Assistant. But there is a significant market out there that either doesn't use HA, or only uses it to do fairly basic stuff, because HA is deemed too hard to learn. I'm not getting into that argument. I love using HA BECAUSE I enjoy the tinkering involved. There's a massive market out there that would love to get 80% of HA's functionality, but don't want to commit the time it requires. BroadLlink may be trying to connect to that market. My concern as a HA guy is that I want to use BroadLlink products, but no integrations have been created beyond the BL remote. My speculation is that the lack of HA support may be a feature, not a bug. BL may never allow HA to integrate.

I may have missed something, but since these are running off BLE, then it seems like your phone acts as the hub when not using the hub or cant be reached and thus the distance between your phone and the nearest bulb in the mesh is the limiting factor. when you tested you said you couldn't get far enough away to stop the bulb from working. was your phone also a large distance from the bulb you were controlling? Even if Broadlink doesn't officially support it, their BLE setup looks to be very simple and easy to integrate. I am personally more worried about the security part - how easy would it be for a neighbor to re-pair with your devices? And if you use Home Assistant as an alarm - will the BLE sensors be considered secure enough ? :)

I like the idea of this product and the range is something I have been looking for, for one very particular reason - Door Bell. I have a garden office and want a doorbell inside the house AND at the end of the garden, about 40 mtrs away. I tried three different (Bluetooth?) doorbells which claimed 1000ft (300mtrs) range but none worked at anywhere near that range - three walls do cut the signal quite a bit, I suppose. I have wi-fi and Alexa in the office and could buy FLIC 2 to activate a routine but it is WAY too expensive for just a doorbell! The idea of a local Bluetooth mesh is great. THE PROBLEMS ARE - I don't need the lightbulbs and I don't need four big switches on the front door. Has anyone else found a solution that might work for me with the range I need? Still think this is a great product and, as usual, Paul makes it a great review - kudos, man!

Hue is expensive but if money isnt a problem I still find it to be the most convenient most reliable system there is. Brightness only matters if you need more brightness that the hue bulbs can produce at 100%, I dont. As for colour accuracy, I just dont care because I dont use many colour bulbs. I have had more issues with BroadLink TC switches than any other smart home product I have ever bought too. Once the home assistant boffins figure out how to integrate these and broadlink implement the changes mentioned in the description, these are basically perfect! The only bulbs to buy! Nerdy question - have you been able to see whether these cause interference with other bluetooth devices or anything unexpected (like wifi/zigbee etc)? I rely a lot on both you see. Bonus ultra nerdy comment: I guess it depends on the wavelength their protocol is using?
@robert.wigley2 жыл бұрын
It's BLE, so it'll be using 2.4GHz, which is in the same frequency range as regular (non 5GHz) WiFi, Zigbee and multiple other things. It's the most widely used frequency. 😖
@trevor87622 жыл бұрын
Robert is 100% correct. BLE devices in particular can have issues with being overpowered by stronger 2.4Ghz sources (due to the lower power consumption requirements), so keep that in mind when designing the wireless setup in your house and you should have much fewer issues. However, I would love to actually see the BLE traffic and it RF signature considering the fact that though the technology is normally used in low power draw situations, these devices have no need for that. I wonder if the RF power is actually within SIG standards or they are using BLE protocols with Bluetooth BD/EDR levels of signal transmission strength.
@fidomuh2 жыл бұрын
BLE is easy to overpower, but as mentioned in the video, the mesh solution is extremely easy to maintain. Essentially a mesh ensures all devices connect to the optimal uplink, so as long as you don't place your access points directly on top of your bulbs, you should be good. For environments that are heavily affected by interference, the mesh itself will also cause interference and could potentially force newer APs to increase their power output, so just make sure to have "enough" devices that are "always on" (bulbs, power sockets, etc) and you should not have a problem. This is also why Broadlinks showcase, while impressive in terms of delay, is actually easier to achieve since there are so many mesh-points, despite being in a corporate building with many access points. (I assume.) Personally my scale is BLE only, and I can read that from my Home Assistant device more than 20 meters away, despite having 4 access points in between - and this is a battery powered scale.

So off the back of this review I bought the starter kit and these are my thoughts, 1st - the switch needs a 2430 battery and it isn't included which although only a small gripe is pretty annoying 2nd - I have setup 2 bulbs in bedside lamps to be operated by the switch, and it doesn't work correctly every time, sometimes one bulb does something completely different than what it should whilst the other one works correctly. or both do something odd, or one ignores the command completely. Have to say the pairing is amazing though, literally a second, its weird, its as if it hasn't worked properly having been used to other devices taking a minute to pair.

Trying to set a single color with room control, and they aren't even doing that all the same, if at all. Luckily my "daylight" scene seems to be working as the default if i turn the power off and back on. Also not able to pair with Alexa at all, the registration code it requires doesn't display. REALLY hoping they get the software figured out because the pairing and setup was amazing, but the functionality seems to be really lacking right now.

Cheap Device - cost of cloud is killing companies and going 360 is the only way to go and clearly they see it Few points you forget to mention when comparing Hue to other bulbs that should be stated as not everyone is in need for brighter then what a hue bulb can do. 1. Fade in/Out - Hue will slowly transition on and off to give a nice transition unlike other bulbs that cut power, sure thats like a traditional bulb but when you've had these slow transition its hard to go back. 2. Dimness, Hue bulbs from my expierence go much Dimmer then other bulbs Sure you might not care for both of these and do care for brightness, but it should be mentioned as there is other characteristics of quality in lightbulbs then just ''Lumens''

Sorry, asking for a friend.

Will be interested when/if they add routines via Alexa etc to this product. For now I'll continue with Flic.

Help me out...I have the broadlink hub and and 4 button switch but they are not the "Fastcon" what are the differences.

I wonder if grid-connect has that switch that can also control my downlights via wifi? That's my problem too at home. I go automation via phone apps and alexa voice command but my family members aren't technology savvy yet. They always manually switched Off from the wall leaving our downlights offline. 😄

Can you update us, Paul? Have all the bugs been worked out yet? I know you said not 'til about July but I'm on their mailing list and just got an email announcement from them this morning which sort of made it sound like Alexa integration etc. is all working now. Also, will this setup be working with devices other than their bulbs?

Great Video. Bayonet houses, B22 to E27 Socket Converter, 8.99. Switchbot use BLE will it interact? Does this mean no wifi overload? Smart room 1 x echo, all ble devices (inc hub), 1 Broadlink mini to control ir devices. Would this not be cloned for many rooms in a care home?

I like your little cloud light.

Considering this uses ble does that mean you could directly connect a ble enabled home assistant box to it without a bridge, that would be great for the light switch because then you can have buttons work as toggles as well asgiving some pretty advanced cross compatibility and advanced automations with the assistance of node red

Will the Broadlink motion sensor, when it is released, operate using ambient light as well as motion as the Hue does? I bought the starter kit and am loving it - so far …….

I use Phillips hue and I want to replace it with this, all my lights are b22 or GU10, is there a starter kit that comes with 3 of the b22 bulbs rather than the 3 twist ones?
