A video review of the SmartDeyeDongle V4 which I purchased from SmartHomeIntegrations.co.za to connect my Deye inverter to my Home Assistant. It also enables the automated writing of values and settings back to the inverter using Home Assistant automations.

So this is Heinz that sells the SmartDeyeDongleV4. I would like to know from people watching this video if the DIY crowd would be interested in buying a RS485 Shield + Microcontroller combo that does not include any firmware (so you could flash your own). Obviously this will be cheaper and without support. Do keep in mind that you need a very specific ESP32 microcontroller with the correct pinout. There are also couple of variations on the market with different pinouts (which will not work) and also some that are too narrow and do not even fit onto the shield (hence the reason I will only sell the combo). Open to feedback

Thanks Heinz, that is a great option, I think most people however will just buy a complete system with your firmware on it and get support from you.

Heinz, thinking of buying the setup for my Sunsynk 8k inverter.Using the ESP32dev & RS485 at the moment,. Question does your only show 61 sensor ? I see the other one shows 91 sensors ? Thanks

Hi @@vaughanza The SmartDeyeDongle has 146 entities, some of them don't have any values on my system as they are not being used, MPPT4 values for example. My ESPhome config has 91 entities but I could add more values if desired and I know what addresses to query. The KellerZa integration has 61 sensors as standard but you can customise that one as well.

@@SolarIntegrations Thanks , I would like the 91 entities etc . Can I order but let me know what I need to replace my ESP32 & RS485. What power supply do i use ? I al need the network cable to plug it into the RS485 port.

@@vaughanza What values is it that you want to get that you don't currently have? If you have a look at the modbus register you can query whatever values it is that you want. There are some entities that Heinz has worked out that aren't listed on the register, haven't take the time to work out what they are though.

I used a text editor to change all the instances in the yaml files to incorporate the unique number in the entity name. It's quick to do without changing one entity at a time.

Good idea @Hhunted, I am sure that will be a lot easier. I didn't think of doing it that way, I tried to rename them with home assistant, it used to be able to update all the entities for you when you changed the device name but wouldn't work when I tried so I just ended up changing them all manually

@@SolarIntegrations ​ Hi. Just to clarify. I already had this dashboard - DeyeSolarDesktop for my deye inverter from github installed and then I edited the entities in the automation, template and configuration yaml files. Then if you have the desktop already installed you can go to the dashboard and edit it with the "raw configuration editor" copy the data into notepad++ and replace and rename the entities like that. As example replace all text with "deyeinvertermaster_" to invertermaster_4251e4_" which my dongle named the entities. Hope this makes sense and sorry I spoke in broad terms with regards to the find and replace option.

Ahhh @Hhunted, thanks for clarifying that, so you changed the entity names in the dashboard to the value of the ESPHome device and not the device name to match the dashboard names. I prefer to do it the other way round so that if I update the Dashboard it doesn't all go out of sync. Unfortunately the bulk update in Home Assistant doesn't work for some reason. There must be another way to update the names on-mass, just need to work it out :-)

What About Afore inverter? Do you think this one is possible in homeassistant? We are using Solarman logger to Afore here in Sweden

If you are using the Solarman logger, I would try out the KellerZa integration and see if that works. Does the Afore have an RS485 port on it?
