"GUARANTEED Pass Your Road Test "First Time"
These driving tips will help you to centre your vehicle in the lane while driving straight, turning right, or turning left. By looking farther down the road and keeping your eyes moving the vehicle will centre in the traffic lane.
When turning, you may have to slow. If the turn is sharp you will have to slow to keep the vehicle in the lane. The slower you go with any vehicle, the sharper the vehicle turns.
On left hand turns at complex intersections pick out your landmarks before you begin to turn. With landmarks to guide you, you can simply look farther down the road and proceed to drive the vehicle through the turn.
For a quick reference to check if your vehicle is centred in the lane, look to see if the "fog line" is positioned on the front right corner of the vehicle. Use that reference point every now and again to check the vehicle's positioning in the lane.
Good luck on your road test!

One thing that a teacher told me to help stay centered is to keep your right leg aligned with the center of the lane as it is almost the middle of the car. It really helped me.

Hi Clifford Walters - thank you for your most flattering comment and compliment. My PhD is in the discipline of legal history, which is the study of courts, prisons, and policing. My PhD look at policing and traffic safety and how it relates to traffic. In a nutshell: The thesis examined the traffic revolution that occurred in the forty years after 1890 as road traffic transitioned from animal-drawn to motor-vehicles. Melbourne, Australia served as a case study. The focus of the work examined the 500% increase in average road speeds and the consequent impact on law, policing, and public policy. In the conflict that ensued between motorists’ desire to travel at higher road speeds and authorities’ mandate to maintain an acceptable level of public safety and public order, the analysis concluded that new policies and legislation, in fact, facilitated higher road speeds. If there is anything further we can do, drop us a note. Always happy to help. All the best, Cheers Rick

I also tell my students they can use the vehicle ahead of them as a rough guide assuming there is a vehicle ahead of them and that car is centered in the lane and I have heard that state troopers use their left thumb - by holding the wheel at 10 and 2 and sticking their thumb up it should appear to be riding along the yellow center line or just slightly to the right of it but that takes some practice and accuracy.

Hey Rick, thank you so much for all your videos, they have been very helpful to me as a learner Driver. I was wondering if you could please do a video on how to make my passengers in the car more comfortable such that they don't feel as though the car is jerking or stalling? I've had a comment from one of my driving instructors that the ride is not as smooth when they're sitting in my car (especially when I'm going through roundabouts) compared to more experienced drivers. Is there a way around that? Also, how do I know how wide to turn when I'm making a left turn and/or right turn?

Also I'm using a Toyota Corolla for my driving class but after 2 hrs driving test,i usually feel pain on my right kneel despite moving back d car seat to d last point behind. Im concern cuz I'm just 5ft 9 inches tall, cud it be i needed more leg room space or what? What kind of car will u advice to use personally.

Hi Oluwakayode Fasusi - Thank you for your comment. And a Corolla is a good car. Are you taking a 2hr driving lesson with a driving instructor? 2 hours is a long time; I usually don't work with students for that long in a passenger vehicle. 50 minutes or 1 hour is more the norm. You might try some of the small SUVs and see if they work better for you - Honda CRV, or the Toyota RAV 4!? If there is anything further we can do, drop us a note. Always happy to help. It's like a 4 way junction controlled by traffic signal and allowed to do u turn , also T junction controlled by traffic signal and allowed to take u turn The problem is it's not like other u turn traffic board signal allows in the middle of the road, in this u can stop my car and look for clearance on opposite road then I can take U turn by turning the steering wheel on my left completely. It's easy for me to do I am having problems when the signal is green on the U turn so I can't stop my car to look for clearance , I have to steer U turn while I am driving, during this either I am over steer or less steer also I am not controlled in acceleration and brakes and I am not sure how much I have to steer So could you please explain on this

I do have huge problem with positioning myself when I am on a residential two-way street with 2 lanes in each direction and there are no lines either separating the lanes in the same direction nor the yellow line that would mark the lane with opposite traffic.(no marked lanes on intersections either). What can I do to help me with my spatial awareness and knowing when I am in which lane? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Hello thanks for the useful information. Could you please explain to me? do I have to put a small paper in the middle of front mirror in order to center the car in the lane? Is that what you mean by setting a landmark? Thank you, Hiba
@smartdrivetest
@smartdrivetest 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Hiba Hammami - thank you for your comment. No, you don't need a piece of paper. Some of the smart drivers said that it's easier to find the centre of the hood in the camera, thus the piece of paper. The landmark is a fixed object in the roadway that will allow you to drive you vehicle; it is a guide that allows you to point your vehicle where you need it to go. Have a look at this video - this might explain the landmark better: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bIjFiqOdo5uHasU If we can help further, drop us a note. Always happy to help. All the best, Cheers Rick
