Hello, Thanks for the video. I have a question. I have a lock. I don't know if it is first or second generation. I would like to know if the device that you are connecting to it is suitable for any generation.

Great video. Maybe try a pair of soft boxes to improve lighting on your face. Quick question... how did you superimpose the phone screen on your video? I would love to do that for my videos.

***** Hi Jamil, thanks! I am in the midst of a camera and lighting upgrade for the videos, with diffusers / soft boxes. I know, sounds weird for a lighting guy to not have great video lighting, and I have a background in video work but this series was originally on a shoestring budget and now I'm improving everything :-)

***** Forgot about your other question. I AirPlay-mirrored my iPod touch to my Mac via Reflector from Squirrels and did a screen recording of that portion of the display. Then used FCP X to automatically sync up the clips :-)

Thank you, it is indeed pretty cool! It's an Insteon KeypadLinc, which has interchangeable labels and color filters for each button.

Chad Solberg Hi Chad, nope, none at all from my understanding. I think part of the reason the cost of the product is so high is that they've wrapped the "free" services into the cost of the August itself.

August works with the most platforms of nearly any smart lock out there, and it's very, very reliable. There were bugs a few years ago but it's very solid now. It uses Bluetooth for connections, and there is a bridge device to get access to Wi-Fi.

There are 3 problems; - WiFi dongle is need to be close to the smart lock because Bluetooth distant is very short - Auto Unlock will only work if you cross the geofence. For me the geofence is a block away. Don’t expect the Auto Unlock will work if you just step out door to put out the trash - connect dongle only recognize 2.4hz signal. If you have both 2.4hz & 5hz WiFi signal sharing the same name. The dongle will fail to connect for some reason.

Thank you, and welcome aboard! The set of apps and services is a bit complex due to the level of automation and integration, it's hard to explain in a comment. There will be detailed videos coming out on the topic. But it's a combo of SmartThings, Google Assistant, Indigo (Mac automation server), Home Remote (iOS home controller) and many more devices and services.

does august connect anywhere in the world by using wifi? what about the local DATA int the country u r at? What happen when Android devices that are NOT compatible are they able to access to the house by using Wifi of my home??

Geraldine Ong Sorry for the late reply. From what I understand, August should work anywhere since it is just based on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. I know they have an Android app, but is it not compatible with your version of Android? App compatibility with smartphone/tablet hardware should not affect compatibility with the August Connect, unless your ISP is blocking certain ports or types of communications.

"Not very well protected" - I think there was excessive amount of packaging material. Why is the box inside another box + plastic? You will probably never use the packaging afterwards. It is just to give you the premium impression (large box = high value)

Check amazon from reseller for cheaper price. But most of the times these device are still register under someone else. You will need to contact August and show proof of purchase so they can unlock it for you.
