Are you switching to the Homey Pro smart home hub, or keeping what you already have? 🤔

@T8DAGR8EST Each has their own benefits. If you are just using one platform to run your smart home, I would go with Google Assistant because of their new script editor. If you are going to use a hub like Home Assistant and want to integrate, then Alexa might be a little better.

In Denmark Homey Pro (1. and 2. gen) has been popular for years, but eventually a lot of Homey Pro users have started using Home Assistant as a supplement because Home Assistant still is the king of local compatibility. So I’m happy to stay with Home Assistant. It’s definitely a steep learning curve, but once you get it, it is awesome. And the community is much bigger and better. Also not sure about nvr-integration, LPR and person detection on Homey. UI is also not nearly as customizable. Another thing: If Homey became too popular, imagine how many wasted hours would be spent making community integration to a sole manufacturer closed source platform.

loved the review, mate! I was on Homey (not the pro version, which was only recently released) up until a couple of years back and used to love it. Now on Home Assistant, which is a beast in terms of features, compatibility, community support, etc. but as any home assistant owner knows, it's a great path to 1) family divorce and 2) bad sleep habits - I challenge any HA user they've never been up till late to fix issues such as broken devices, flows, etc. or even figure out how implement and perfect a new automation! With Homey, I could easily do basic automations from the phone from anywhere and they just worked! (and for the advanced stuff....yeah, of course you need to be on a proper keyboard and screen!) you nearly got me to get back into Homey world until....welll, the integrationd doesn't actually work! ooops! I don't discard one day going back and compromising the power of home assistant in favour of the Homey Pro simplity, yet decent amount of power!

@@SmartHomeSolvercommunity app are very important and usually poorly maintained. At every software upgrade it took months for everything to work again, if it would. As community apps are mostly not open source, no forks could be made when the developer quits. Even the Homey apps were sometimes poorly maintained. I had Homey for a while, but I moved away from it to Home Assistant. My main issues were: No dashboard support, well you could use a third party one, but you can't customize it. Limited device support. The developer support isn't as good as, for example, Home Assistant. Finding devices in the app is horrible. You can't use the app during an internet outage, flows will continue to run though.
@SiegersNL
@SiegersNL Жыл бұрын
Most of this is solved in the last weeks/months, there is an unofficial dashboard that works great and is getting better by the day, the app always worked locally if there is an internet outage (for years already), if a device isn’t supported yet (and isn’t a really a strange unknown thing) there is mostly an integration for it (zigbee and zwave devices are all supported with the standard functions, on/off, dimming, etc). But there is no search function for devices in the app indeed and i miss it also.

Question: I own a few Tuya/Smart Life devices, but would like to expand my home automation. I found so-called Multi Mode Hubs, which appear to be able to connect with non-ZigBee devices (like the Tuya devices I already own) and ZigBee devices. Looks like the best option for me to keep using old devices and add new ZigBee-compatible devices. Am I correct with my assumption? Anything important to know about those multi-mode hubs? Thanks :-)

This looks like a user friendly device with an intuitive interface. One concern is the fact it took you 5-6 times to pair a Zigbee device, that makes me believe that those devices will drop off the zigbee network after sometime, I would suggest it would be due to wifi interfence. Great device though to get yourself in the door with all things IoT.

I didn't know about it until saw this video. All of my flows just work, it's nice. I like tweaking them, vs Home Assistant, where I really didn't like trying to tweak Home Assistant. I'm always looking to try some new fun flows in Homey Pro. I have my theme music playing (Imperial March, of course) for me, and if not home, "Let The Bodies Hit The Floor" when my room goes active. I just make sure that before I purchase something new, it is part of the Homey Pro network, and so far, most of what I've wanted to get, is. Think Nanoleaf Essentials is about only device I have that isn't part of the system, for things like playing scenes. Nanoleaf Shapes have scenes, so that works.

It seems like a great product. Unfortunately Homey doesn't support 433MHz in the US yet and they don't know when they will be granted a license. I would love to use it to control my Somfy RTS roller shades.

Tried the app, connected it to my Hue lights. Yawn.. The app is not easy to use, like where are my rooms / groups whatever they are called in Hue? I looked and looked and it was not obvious. The flows initially seemed to make sense but then got confusing. Gave it a chance but no i'll pass.

I think you're talking about the cloud-based Homey app which is different from the local Homey Pro. I have the latter and found it very easy to get started, create rooms and Flows. It's my first automation device but it seemed intuitive enough.

Far too expensive, at around half price I would consider it but not for this.

If you think it is too expensive, you can try to look for the Homey Bridge. I don't know if it's on the US market, but if so, the price will be less than USD 100. Try to look it up 👍

Weird. Here in The Netherlands, where Homey is from, it's not considered a strange name. Certainly not stranger than Hubitat or Domoticz.
