The reason the case is sold separately is so that people who wanted to mount it in a different way or wanted to make their own case weren't paying for something they didn't need or want.

This is a great device, comes in at about the same as a hue sensor but without needing to spend more on a hub and more accurate for motion sensing! My office light often goes off cos I'm motionless. I really like the light level sensors, they are great for bringing on the lights just as it starts to get dark outside. I have an artificial sunset taking the lights from cool white to warm white (essentially daytime light to more of a sunset colour). As sunset can be between 16:00-21:30 I can ensure I keep the white lights on longer to try and trick my brain into thinking it's not getting dark as early so if it gets dark between 19:00-21:00 it will trigger. If it happens before 19:00 or after 21:00, it just happens at the respective time. Gotta love Hassio!!

I used a simple ping sensor in HomeAssistant to monitor if my computer is on or off. I then use 2 automations, one which turns the office light on by either the motion sensor or the computer turning on. (This also checks the time of day, and only puts the light on if we're approaching or after sunset) Then a 2nd which triggers when the computer state changes from on to off, then turns off the office light after 5 minutes. I find this works better than relying on the motion sensor to spot that I'm sat there (but the mmwave sensors in this video do give me ideas for use in other rooms, just not needed in my home office)

Direct Sunlight? Hi, thank you for bringing this great sensor to our attention. Have you tested it outside? A few years ago I installed a Watts hot water recirculating device at my water heater. We had a long run from our water heater to the master shower requiring a long wait for hot water to arrive at the shower head. The watts came with a manual timer to set for times you would normally need the hot water quickly. Being retired our needs vary. I was able to plug the watts pump into an inexpensive smart plug to get an easier way to set up a routine with Alexa to turn on the pump to get the water ready for the shower. I discovered the PIR sensor to set up in the bathroom attached to the exhaust fan grill. Now this device will get me the hot water when we walk into the master bath. A routine will shut off the watt’s pump if there is no movement within a specified amount of time. A pir could be set up in additional bathrooms for quicker hot water there also. I have a routine set up so the pir will only work during sunrise to sunset so as not to start the pump during an overnight trip to bathroom. Your subs may be interested in this home automation idea. The pir runs on AAA batteries. I got the rechargeable ones and they last almost 3 months. The alkalines run down quicker. The plug in pir would be a better solution for some.

I have also worked with microwave sensors, it is a big problem, it oscillates, from different devices such as the phone or wifi router and others that use frequencies, or even if you set the sensitivity higher. That's why many reputable companies don't use this technology, especially since it can't be used for the alarm system. If you were careful, he said that sometimes he activates himself, for no reason. Don't worry, if it was that easy, many companies were making such sensors by now. I tried too. It is not reliable. But just to turn on the light, it's good.

Maybe this new generation of mmWave sensors has some form of countermeasure for interference of this kind (ie. wifi). Besides, combining PIR and mmwave seems like a good-enough workaround. p.s. awesome to see someone else from Romania, cei mai buni ingineri :)
@GeekProdigyGuy2 жыл бұрын
You didn't pay attention. This sensor is mmwave, not microwave. Specifically it's 24 GHz. Standard wifi and microwaves are 2.4GHz, cellular is about the same or lower, and newer wifi standards are 5GHz/6GHz, so it wouldn't get any interference from those. edit: One possible conflict is 5G networks some of which may operate in 24GHz. Although if your phone is connected to wifi you wouldn't have an issue.

These sounds like an amazing sensor, I’m building my forever home and plan to do my smart home set up as I go so I’m researching everything I might need or want. My smart home will mainly just automatically respond to things, my curtains will open because the sun came up, close because it set, lights will come on cause someone walked in, turn off cause someone left, my door will unlock because I pulled up to the house, this sorta thing so this sensor could be a game changer for me. I have a few concerns tho, for my household specifically. 1 I have large dogs that’s are home and moving around when I ain’t and 2 I use ceiling fans, love them, I will have them in every bedroom and a huge one in the open living room/dining/kitchen area and they will run constantly. I know I could mount at ceiling and use the distance restriction to get around the pet thing probably but if I do that then does it see the ceiling fans as someone there constantly? I know with my indoor cameras I have to use the custom viewing fields to blank out my ceiling fans or my cameras are just constantly triggering for motion, I assume the PIR sensor would do the same in this sensor.

This is freaking awesome!!! I was always struggeling with the cooldown and had to fiddle around with timeouts and things. But this one. I need like 10 or 12 of this ... Also whats up with the bluetooth part of it? Did you use it? Can you detect who is in the room too? With a sensor like THIS you could think about things like music following a person throughout the house! Like I am sitting and working in my studio and my girlfriend is doing her own business upstairs both listening to spotify on our Sonos Speakers (got like 9 rooms with Sonos/Ikea Speakers, could need 1-2 additional for the halways) and then your playback could like follow you. It could extend to the rooms you are going to (leaving it on at the master for a decent timeout, before switching masters (one might have a tiny break in playback when doing so)) So her podcast would just follow her into the bathroom while my music extends to the living room and kitchen when grabbing some food and kinda pulling back when I left those rooms and I am back into my studio ...

I have a workaround for the same problem using motion sensor in my bathroom at home. The motion sensor turns on the lights in the restroom when someone walks in. If the motion sensor does not sense motion for 3 minutes, it turns the lights off. There's a problem here if you're in the shower with a shower curtains closed then the motion sensor doesn't detect you and the lights go off while you're in the shower. So my remedy to this was a door sensor on the restroom door. If the door is closed the lights won't go off because I programmed it to ignore the 3-minute rule on the motion sensor. But if the restroom door is left open for longer than 3 minutes then turn the lights off. So when you walk in to brush your teeth and the door stays open the lights come on because of the motion sensor. The light will remain on as long as there is some type of motion. As soon as you walk out the light will go off in 3 minutes as long as the door is not shut. The problem to this for me is you can't shut the bathroom door or the lights will remain on. This is the problem I have yet to solve in case you would like to shut the bathroom door while it's not occupied. And believe me there's been times the restroom door needed to be shut while not occupied. Lol especially after my dad has been in there.

Perhaps link it with a bright strobe light and one of them sirens that cripples you and makes you spew/pi$$/$hit yourself so they won't be getting back out of the house with my goodies. Of course I'd be implementing a hidden override of the siren gear so we can't get stung with it, something not obvious, perhaps a 3.5mm audio socket that needs not connected (isolated) when a 3.5mm dummy plug is inserted but has a tin strap in it that means it's normally connected when the plug is removed ... it would mean unless they can find the hidden socket and know what to do with it, THEY'RE DOOMED. In our case, just logon to the app via WiFi at the door before we enter and disable the system there before entry, still disabling that 3.5mm as a backup upon entry.

So cool. Though unsure of the price, says $37 outside but click on the link it says $73. You said it only works with home assistant. Why not smart things or anything else.

Cool sensor! Is it healthy to keep such a sensor in a room you’re in all the time? Another question: Does it work with Apple Home?
