I think this would be worth it if the light strip had its own sync software built in and connected to your TV via USB or something but not many people have Macs or PCs connected to their TVs so requiring an already very expensive Sync Box on top of a very expensive light strip makes it a no for me

like the features, setup was difficult for some of my devices (August Door lock, kzbin.infoUgkxhB5YOMNj04GuoAosExygP4cH-dKeb4aB Bose speaker)... but all switches and outlets (5), thermostat, tankless water heater. Unfortunately all I can do is turn on/off Bose. It doesn't support volume or changing channels, but I believe that is due to the particular speaker I have.... Worth getting if you already have other devices to use it with... I don't sit around and ask Alexa questions much so that doesn't really matter to me....

I have been waiting for something like this from Philips for such a long time. I have spent a ridiculous about of money on Hue lights but I do thoroughly enjoy them. Although this light strip will be yet another absurd amount of money I will def be getting it. I tried using seven play bars around the back of my 75 inch tv along with the sync box, and although it works okay it is very difficult to try and position the seven play bars around the tv when creating an entertainment area in the Hue app. I really hoped they would add something to the Hue app to where it shows a front or rear view of a TV so you can position the play bars more accurately, but I guess the gradient light strip is their solution. Either way I love Philips products although yes they are insanely expensive. But if they work well and they actually last a long time then I am okay paying good money for things.

Nice demo but to get this effect using the Philips Gradient Lightstrip can work out to be costly when you add up the price of the lightstrip, the hue bridge & the hue sync box the whole setup will cost you around £500+. The cheaper option is to just buy a Philips Hue Ambilight TV. I have the 65PUS8204 which will cost you arond £500 with three sided ambilights, Dolby Vison/atmos is built in. Any thing left in your budget can be put to a few extra Hue lamps to go in the corners of the room for an even extra added effect but you will need the hue brdge for any extra bulbs to work with the TV.

Just to clarify the sync box is not compatible with HDMI 2.1 so 4k@120 probably won’t pass through. BUT This likely will only be the case for a handful of games. 4k@60 should be the norm for most pS5 series X games which the sync box can handle

I just use all play bars (8 of them) so it blends better. 2 behind tv (top and bottom), 2 behind each tower speakers. So the tower speakers I have top one face the wall and one below it face away from the tv. Then last 2 bars behind the sofa. Hue app you can set if the light is tv height, on the floor, or ceiling. Accurately adjusting this really helps.

Stumbled upon this vid whilst searching for the gradient strip. What I did for my 65 inch; placed the gradient strip as usual. For the dark bottom part I used 3 play bars (left mid right). I used the V-brackets that came with the bars to stick them to the back of the TV. They face straight to the wall behind. The intensity difference was really annoying just like in this video. I "solved" this by setting the strip and bars on a static color at 100% brightness. Next I adjusted the hight of the bars (bit by bit about 10 centimeters total) upwards until intensity looked the same. It looks like a 360 gradient strip now. Really happy with this set-up. Maybe your screen is too close to the wall for this to work though... but who knows it might work for you as well.

I had alot of dropped signals to my Switch and PS4 Pro in the first few months of use. It would be a critical cutscene or something, then Prnnnt.. My console cables were fairly new and in fine shape, as far as I could tell. I also was using the provided hdmi cable that came with the Sync for Output. I ordered a few of the following to replace the Output and Ps4 Pro hdmi cabling, and have had little to zero drops since. www.amazon.com/Belkin-AV10175bt2M-BLK-Vision-Optimal-Viewing/dp/B075N83B9X I love the sync so much, so I just got my lightstrip. I might just get this new strip and get rid of all play bars from behind a TV. Also, in my opinion, best effect is when you add hue signe on both sides, these are just mind blowing. I bought an Ambilight system off of Facebook for $30 that does the same thing, with LED's all the way around the TV. The downsides? You need to do a little cutting and soldering, you need a little time to figure out the software because they didn't include instructions (setup for how many LEDs are on each side of the screen and the output mode) and I have to run it from my laptop. The upside? Anything I want to watch using the Ambilight system is easily watched via my laptop (i.e. Blue-Ray/DVD, Netflix, Hulu, etc).

Hi, thanks for the video. I just completed DIY Hyperion setup few days back. Philips HUE is definitely at the TOP when it comes to user friendly setups compared to the options that we have in the market and much much easier/ simpler compared to all the DIY setups. I would still go for the DIY setup (Raspberry PI, LED Strip, Video Grabber etc.) because the entire setup costs less than 100$ and works exactly how this setup works. I do agree DIY is not for everyone but if someone is tech savvy then it should not be a problem.

Pfft.. ZigBee is alright. Just use it ONLY for your Philips Hue shit and be done with it. Frankly, I'm more worried about wifi stuff that has no right being on wifi. Things like wifi switches and dimmers and stuff really upset me. There's no good reason to use wifi for such simple devices over Z-wave. Z-wave is more energy efficient and it doesn't clog up your wifi network. Myself, I only use Zigbee for my Hue lights, Wifi for my Google Home speakers (thanks Google for being a fucking twat and not including RJ45 ports on them!) and Z-wave (everything else). I have a single Google Home connected to a usb->power+ethernet dongle and that's the only smart speaker that works all the time so it's in my bedroom. I HAVE to be able to tell Google to turn off my lights when I'm lying in my bed all comfy and not have it interrupt me with "I CAN'T SEEM TO CONNECT TO YOUR WIFI RIGHT NOW PLEASE CHECK YOUR CONNECTION SETTINGS IN THE GOOGLE HOME APP"... the bitch that she is. :)

If I was trying to fix the bottom section I would stick something over the bottom lights such as some white fabric. You can also get shower stickers so that you can't see through the glass. You can put a few layers of the shower stickers on the cover of the lights.

Better solution is to get frost gel from a theatrical supply store, it blurs the light passing through it. A sheet costs about $7 and can be cut to fit the fixtures

I would need the strip to go all the way around my tv. Could I put the 75” version on my 55” tv and have the bottom covered that way?
@guyo83

No, because the program and sync box does not translate what is at the bottom of your screen (for the light strip specifically), you'll have to buy additional lighting it seems

Price of these is not so crazy compared to the previous solution with playbars, at double the price you cover all the back of the tv, unfortunately this strip is not exactly like ambilight, it has zones and ambilight has a zone for every single led, more accurate. In the end the Syncbox is a really unreliable product, i bought it one month ago, lot of problems switching inputs or sometimes it doesn’t respond at all, when it works is beautiful but too many bugs for a high end product like that
@SmartHomeSolver
@SmartHomeSolver 4 жыл бұрын
That's true about the price compared to play bars. One thing that I didn't mention in the video is that the 7 zones is specifically set by Hue. They have the ability to go more granular like ambilight but they said the 7 zones was for the best experience. So they could update it or give an option to change that in the future potentially.

Thanks for the review. Since the gradient lightstrip will not support 120" projector screens, what is the recommendation folks have to get the best experience for this setup? We watch movies and play games with big sound and lots of explosions, lol. I'm putting in a home theater and have the hue sync box (but not tied to it if there are better options), I'm trying to make the experience as immersive as possible in the room and would like some feedback, what would you do?

I can see how these would appealing if you already have hue products but as a standalone product the gover immersion product seems like a much better product the not covering the bottom of the TV is a huge deal breaker for me especially at over $200 when the govee is half the price and covers the bottom

So the sync box is a go-between the TV and whatever the input devices but what if you’re watching something on an app on the TV. Such as Amazon prime that’s already installed on the TV?

I just found some third party apps for Android TVs to give hue sync combabilities for the smart apps, without PC or Sync HDMI box. Still excludes DRM content from netflix. Hue Stream, and Hue Essentials for Android TV This is great for me as the content I watch (emby/plex) doesnt go throug HDMI to the TV. Down side, is being third party, the gradient compatibility will lag behind release of the gradient strip... which i pre-ordered anyway from bestbuy.

Tx for the in depth video. Around 5:50 you say that the sync box does not support apps on the Tv. hmm.. What if you do "hdmi out" from tv into sync box. Could that not solve it? Most tv´s only use apps.. no hdmi or external devices are connected any more. I ask, because I have feared what you say is true.. and its the only thing that have kept me from bying it.

Was getting this in 2012 with Kodi and Hue, how times change... That said, there is another way to get ambilight and HDR working, the HDFury Diva can basically perform wizardry on HDMI sources and strip or add features, resize, and encode audio, etc. It also has an ambilight type feature. The price is comparable, but the zone count is much higher, as seen in demo and test samples, it also wraps around the 4 sides not just the top and sides. I was interested in the gradient until I saw the pricetag, so the Diva is still my first choice for a home theater.

I would have considered these if they went all the way around the TV. I have hue strips that wrap around my TV and am not willing to trade the lighted bottom for the gradient sync (even though it looks great). Hopefully next year’s version will be full wrap.

Got a 92" projector screen which rolls up in front of floor to ceiling glass doors. So I wouldn't be able to mount them to the screen. Contacted Hue team asking if it would be possible to invert the strip. So I could mount the strip to the window pane. They replied.. it isn't. Bummer.. because this individual led colouring strip is what I've been wanting since Hue got released.

Or do like me and get a bunch of cheap 5 meters RGB strips. Build a 20 channel Arduino RGB controller for a few dollars. Now you have lights everywhere in your mancave for the price of one Philips bulb. You can use hue bridge emulator DIYHUE if you want to use their Sync software with any sort of light.

Can you please investigate why Philips sync boxes are so dodgy? I ordered two and neither one of them worked. Kept getting "Could not make connection securely" error.. Just to point out - these are fun, but if you're a stickler for actual visual quality you don't want these. Instead, you want a simple bias light calibrated to the proper level. This will give you the sharpest perceived contrast and color saturation (they're also dirt cheap). However if you want "fun" no one will blame you.

Been reading a lot and people been complaining of gradient ligjts and sync hue box constantly blacking out and often needing resetting? For what they cost they should be working flawlesly or almost flawlesly since nothing is perfect specially with twchnology. People say they are wonderfully when they work By the way if I decide to get the gradient lights, what exactly do I need? Gradient lights or 75" tv, sync hue Phillips box, bridge and chromcast?
