I bought my Roam because I liked the size, and the fact it connects to the rest of my system - I LOVE IT! I now take it everywhere with me, and my MOVE stays at home. It has such good sound for a little guy. Once you understand the duration of the button presses it's easy to use (explained very well in this video, thanks btw!).

My number 1 complaint is that you can not connect two in stereo mode when using in Bluetooth. This caused me to cancel my order of 2 Roams. Sonos please allow this feature via a software update

I think this is a Bluetooth restriction. A device can only be bluetooth-paired with one other device at a time - obviously stereo requires two connections.

​@@nigelsmith721this is a Bluetooth restriction. Bluetooth is a point to point secure protocol allowing only one authorized connection per Bluetooth chip. Your car may have more than one Bluetooth module as a part of your infotainment system allowing 2 or more phones to connect but this isn't very common a feature in devices you encounter day to day. That being said Sonos could very easily use the Wi-Fi module to connect the two speakers in stereo and the protocols are not intrusive. I was unaware these require a wifi network to stereo pair. I am disappointed as I purchased 2 of them myself for this purpose. I would be very interested to hear official feedback on this decision to omit this feature.

Thanks for sharing the information. This does confirm my experiences. I think the better design is to offer an option in the app on the auto-wake up feature. For my case, I have SONOS speakers in most of rooms in-door. Roam is for outdoor or bathroom. I don't mind a single press to wake the speaker up while moving the speaker around. But I do mind is to find the battery is nearly drained.

Nice review of something that I wasn't aware of. I am completely happy with my Roam and don't have any regrets in buying it. If you are on the fence, just buy it. It's incredibly impressive despite it's small size.

Was a bit confused on my Move as well, but yeah, know this for Sonos speakers in general and you'll be fine: TAP the button to change into sleep ("standby") mode, or HOLD IT for about 7 seconds to turn it off completely. When you know to do that it's no longer a problem. And yeah, keep on a charging stand whenever it's not in use.

Thank you Jonathan. I recently bought two Sonos Roams from and I have come across it sometimes "waking up" as you said. Now I know why it did that. Great Video I wish you and the team the best. You really make quality videos and deserve more Subscribers. I like the new studio backdrop as well. grettings from Germany. If I could change one thing it's to be able to pair my two Sonos roams in Stereo when I'm out with friends playing football and have to use bluetooth. Last weekend we ended up using the JBL instead. That was a bit disappointing.

I leave mine charging and my experience has been amazing, I can just unplug and move it to wherever I'm gonna use it and if I'm gonna leave the house I just turn it off and turn it back on when I get there

Great call on the type of charger. I had a lot of issues which I put down to a dodgy battery, as was just about to try replacing it. Looks like I was just using an underpowered charger and it was never charging properly.

Thanks for the video. My biggest problem is that I have 2 specifically for stereo, and they keep unpairing. This is especially irritating as there is no easy function to restereo pair. I wish it would just stay paired.

The most common complain must be if you use the wireless charger you destroy the internal battery compared to charge it with USB-C… My biggest complain is that you can’t use it to make video calls or answer calls on it.

Over 8 mintues of to say that you simply have to a press a button for 7 seconds to turn it off. amazing. tomorrow i do a 2 h video, how to close the door of the fridge to keep the stuff in there cold. it'll be astonishing! ;)

Rather, 8 min to say you can keep your device plugged in if you want to keep it charged. 😂 To be fair, I was still glad to know that leaving it plugged was backed up by the manufacturer (I hope the info is correct).

I use it solely as a speaker to bring on small trips, which means it is always empty when I need it. 😅 It drains battery even when hard powered off, but has never been completely empty. Yet requires power micro management. Other than that, it's a fine speaker. Recommending bundling it with a magnetic charger.

I use Sonos for all my home audio. The drain on the Roam causes me problems and I turn it off when not in use to conserve battery. Why dont Sonos just tweak the app to take it out of the auto wake mode when playing music on other speakers, A simple toggle on/off switch to ask it to wake when used as part of the eco system is all that is needed. I use my Roam in the shower so I would in the morning toggle on in the app and away I go rather than turning on the device when half asleep and with wet hands

Mine disconnects at least once every day. Even if the app says it’s still connected. I then have to turn it off and reconnect to the other speakers. Is there an easier way to reconnect?

I use mine in the bathroom and tend just to turn off when not using it. I’d prefer to leave on but the battery does drain far to quickly - within 2 days for us

I use mine the same and have to power it off completely to make it work for my scenario. I wish Sonos would allow the unit to be powered down completely from the app because the button is quite fiddly.

At one point he actually says "kind of honest reviews like this one", it's very loosely based on reality. I have a Roam and it's battery management/power button is awful. It runs out of battery without warning, won't turn on when connected to a power source, turns itself on at unpredictable times etc. It's totally pants and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Hi - great video. I just got the Roam SL and have a stereo pair in the bedroom which I have on wifi and not plugged into anything. I love the sleep timer feature in the app but can't make the alarm feature work because the speakers go into sleep mode overnight. Is there any way around this ? Thanks!

I can not get my roam to charge. I plug it in, orange light activates but then goes off after 2-3 secs. I've used several 2A wall chargers..

I loved the roam but I had to return it as my partner would get motion sickness from even the slightest bass from it. Couldn’t use it anywhere near her but she’s fine with my Sonos one. I told Sonos and they didn’t know what to say.

Hi I’m from Mexico I bought a Sonos Roam 2 days ago, it has a great performance with Wifi, it sounds really good and Alexa works better than expected, even Spotify. But the problem is with Airplay, the music takes a lot of time to start, and using Airplay with Spotify it cuts off or stops unexpectedly. Why? Is not my internet connection because in general the device works fine even with Alexa and reconnects very quickly to my network. What should I do to fix this issue? I keep aware to your reply. I am trialing a Roam and have a slightly different issue than what you describe, but would like your help. It is replacing an old Jawbones Jambox, which I loved. I keep the unit plugged in constantly and it is connected via bluetooth to an iPad. I want the unit to stay connected to the iPad without needing any kind of wakeup tap to turn it on. I just want it to play when I turn on the iPad since it is always plugged in. The Jambox worked in this way. It's a 4-step process to wake up the Sonos. Is there a small bluetooth speaking with the same sound quality as the Sonos that works the same as the Jambox? I exclusively listen to classical music and audiobooks and most speakers have MUCH too much bass for me. I tried a Marshall Emberton and it took more steps to wake it up and it has too much bass for my liking. The unit needs to lay flat with a narrow footprint. Thanks.

Any advice on how to set it up when I don't have wi fi, I can't log into my Sonos account because I've forgotten my password but Sonos absolutely will not send me a link to re set it? The requirement for wifi was not mentioned by Sonos on the packaging or anything I read, if it had been I wouldn't have bought it. I don't want an app for a bluetooth speaker I just want it to work. I will never buy Sonos again.

Mine is dead now after using it for 11/2 year allways keeping it on the wireless charger next to my bed and working flawless as a sleeptimer. Untill I took it off once to demonstrate it to a friend. It was going dead in a couple of minutes and now it won't charge anymore, awfull product.

Compared to my much cheaper JBL Flip 4 which is about the same size, the sonos roam has lower max volume, less battery life, worse base and not as robust. And recently is crackles meaning one of the speakers must have somehow gotten damaged from my wife's very calm/never loud yoga music. Personally it was a bad purchase.

It’s the Sonos roam charger, can buy from Sonos or smart home sounds. A wireless charging pad will do the same thing at a quarter of the prose, just doesn’t look as neat

I find that my Sonos Roam will not switch on with the one press on the on button if I've switched the device off completely. I have to hold the button down for 12 seconds, like a reboot, to get it to start then I have to reconnect the Bluetooth. So I just leave it on standby. Don't know if anyone else has had that problem.

Sonos makes some seriously great sounding speakers... but the roam isn't one of them. For the amount of money it costs, it's an underperformer. The bass is weak compared to similarly priced options. It should come with a dedicated bluetooth woofer parable through an app or as a function. It seriously needs low end . Redesign or add on. One or the other would help . Give a person a reason to be proud of spending so much money on a speaker this small.

My only complaint is that when the battery is at 0% it takes a few minutes to be able to connect... when i plug my jbl i can instantly connect to it but the sonos roam take like 5 mins. Or is there a tips ? It's possible that i just missed something

Hi Bryan, yes if you let the Roam go to 0% it does take a few minutes to show back in the Sonos app as it needs to reconnect to WiFi from powering of. Our advice is to not let it get down to 0% and place it on charge if it's less than 10% so it never turns fully off. Hope that helps!

This product is a great example of when the engineers get too far ahead of the end users. Talk about non-intuitive. I've had to watch three KZbin videos in order to fully understand its setup and operating procedures. Someone at Sonos needs to get a demotion. I bought one and returned it. Its Crap!!! Its to small and if you're using it with your Sonos system and the battery dies. Its almost impossible to reconnect it to your system. They want you to reboot your wifi and re-connection it to your system. I was not willing to do all this. My other Sonos speaker just reconnect when disconnected. There are many bugs with this speaker and to tell you the truth its too small and doesn't sound all that good anyway. I'm just going to get a Sones One and call it a day. DON"T WAST YOUR TIME! ITS CRAP!!!!

I'm sorry but this is absolute rubbish... The sonos roam is advertised to last 10 days in STANDBY Mode not off mode. It is lucky to last 3 days at best. Your video is misleading and not accurate to the advertised capabilities of the product.

Hi David, thanks for the comment, Sonos state the Roam can last up to 10 days in standby. The key term is up to and hopefully this video explains while it will drain. In our testing we get about 5-6 days of use on standby but that is using it for around a hour a day and it also being brought online from using other Sonos speakers in the system. Using it more, temperature etc will all have effects on the speaker. The up to 10 days will be when the Roam is in standby mode but you dont use any other speaker in your system so the Roam is not brought out of standby and you dont use the Roam itself.

@@smarthomesounds Hi, I would love to get 5-6 days out of mine but 3 days is max with about 30-60mins use per day. Maybe mine is faulty? I never expected 10days but 3 days is unacceptable. I thought software updates would improve it but so far I have had 2 updates and it has made no difference. I have no other sonos devices but I don't see mine waking up much on its own, when it goes into standby after about 5mins of not being used, it appears to stay that way until I wake it with the button.

@@davidhewitt5734 yours lasts longer than mine, I get just under 2 days. Although that’s much better than I get out of my Move. That inly lasts 24 hours if I’m lucky. That being said, there portable speakers and the figures quoted are best case scenario. I just leave the Move on the charging pad which solves the issue and the Roam is switched-off when not in use because it’s in the bathroom and theres no easy way to keep it charged. Neither are perfect but thats life, I like the sound they produce and I like to use the Sonos app to control them so I have chosen to live with the battery drain issues and my work arounds.

In a real life Sonos system people are using the app to control lots of other speakers and so the app is being accessed a lot so the Roam is probably waking up a lot more often than required. A better option for a lot of people would be to have the choice of whether or not the Roam is constantly woken up and then it might be more fit for purpose without having to have it on a charger constantly. Having to have a portable speaker on charge all the time defeats the object of it actually being portable in my opinion.
