My major hair setback came during my caregiver journey with my Mom. She was going through a very severe breast cancer battle and my primary concern was taking care of her needs. As a result, I did not really take care of my hair needs and got a lot of breakage. So unfortunately, I lost her and while grieving, I still really didn’t take care of it as I should have until last year. I started taking better care of me more and doing more conditioning treatments to my hair, less heat, and a little aruveda techniques. That’s one thing my Mom stayed on me about, taking better care of me and definitely my hair! So self care is in full effect now! That’s my story! Thanks for allowing a platform to share and learn better hair growth techniques!😘

My biggest hair set back that I still struggle with is myself. I get caught up in life and just neglect my hair. But something that has helped me is finding a hairstylist that cares from my hair and holds me accountable. And she teaches me what my hair needs.

As the water flowed over me and I ran my fingers through my hair, I froze. In my hand, not just a few strands, but clumps of hair tangled between my fingers. My heart dropped. The stress of college, pushing toward my goals, and hormonal shifts had all caught up to me. Panic set in, but soon after, a quiet determination followed. I knew it wasn’t just my hair that needed healing-it was me. I let go of harsh routines and embraced a simpler, more mindful approach. Creators like you, Bri, inspired me to rethink my hair care and focus on inner wellness. Slowly but surely, as I nourished my body and managed my stress, my hair started to recover, just as I did. Now, with my birthday approaching on Oct 29th, I’m hoping to celebrate not only with a new tool, but also with the healthy hair I’ve worked so hard to bring back to life.

My biggest challenge with my hair has been learning to embrace my curls. Growing up as a biracial girl with a white mother who struggled to manage my textured hair led to a series of choppy haircuts and damaging perms. As a result, I developed a sense of shame around my hair, relying on high buns throughout high school because I didn’t know how to style it. Fast forward to my mid-twenties: I’ve finally learned to celebrate my unique coils and springs! I take pride in keeping my curls healthy and nourished. Through lots of practice, product testing, and countless KZbin tutorials, I’m grateful to say I’m in a much better place with my hair than I’ve ever been.

1. my biggest hair setback is hands down my mindset when it came to my natural hair. believing it was difficult because it’s 4c, that long hair was more dependent on genetics than length retention and a consistent hair regimen, not loving my hair just the way it is (coil pattern, density, length). i had so many limiting beliefs about my natural hair that turned into a self fulfilling prophecy. when my mindset shifted to pouring love and care into my hair, approaching it with gentleness and patience, everything changed. wash days felt like self care instead of a stressful chore, i felt confident enough to wear my hair outside and it was so liberating. it’s crazy how it took me so long to see the immense beauty in my tightly coiled hair that was there all along. unlearning my internalized texturism & anti-blackness was the catalyst that started my entire healthy hair journey.

The second setback came after my first child when no one told me about postpartum shedding. I had my hair up in twists or braids getting used to a new baby and I did not realize the shedding was already happening and also that I should have continued my prenatal while nursing, so I ended up with clumps of matted hair when I did my second wash heading back to work for the first time. I cried and cried. My mom helped me not lose too much, but I had to "baby" my hair while it was finding normal again. My mom cared for it more than I could at the time.😊

My biggest setback has been stress related hair loss. I hoped the lockdown period of the pandemic would be the perfect opportunity to take good care of my hair, but to my surprise I faced the most challenges with my hair during this period. It started off with scalp itchiness and then my hair began to fall out in chunks. I was terrified because I had never experienced this before. Nothing in my routine or diet had changed, so I wrote it off as stress. In full transparency, my initial reaction to my hair loss was apathy. I told myself I didn’t care and I considered rocking short cuts for the rest of my life. Today, I am still in the process of recovering. I found regular deep conditions and protective styling to be the most helpful. I’ve learned to prioritize convenience and consistency. My hair may not grow back as fast as it could, but this balanced approach has helped me in the process of regaining a healthy relationship with my hair.

One of my first hair set backs came when I was still perming my hair. I had gotten a perm for the first time in 5-6 years when I was around the age of 16 years old. This is when my mom was still in charge of my hair. When the perm "didn't take," the hair dresser decided to re-perm my hair a few weeks after. That's when my hair started to completely fall out. Thank fully, new growth came in where my hair was falling out so my follicles weren't damaged, but it was still devastating as a 16 year old to watch my hair fall out. I never put a perm back in my hair after that.

Hey Bri!! Thanks so much for doing this giveaway! You are an absolute gem to the community! My first big setback in my hair journey came when I got diagnosed with lupus. I had inflammation all over my body, most joints were affected so I had difficulty in walking, gripping things tightly etc but the inflammation also affected my skin and of course we know our scalp is still skin. So I experienced quite a bit of thinning, breakage and just straight up hair loss. Most of the breakage happened in the top middle of my head as well as my edges. I didn't know how to take care of my hair then, so I consulted KZbin University and found out about scalp massages and hot oil treatments, they genuinely made a world of a difference !! This has helped my hair recover sooooo much!!!!

I all of a sudden had this damaged curly hair and had to get creative. KZbin videos like yours really helped me overcome that struggle. I learned how to blow dry my hair and do Bantu knots to allude to a curl while my hair was healing. I learned how to braid on KZbin, and overtime I got better and better and my curls got better and better

My biggest setback happened a year into a relationship. My hair begin to thin and I wasn’t taken care of it like should have. In 2018, I decided to brave a big chop and start anew. It was revitalizing and life changing. However, here I am learning again, all the things I need to take my hair care routine to the next level. I have yet to find a trusted stylist that is affordable and allows me to leave confidently. So I watch you and others to grow, strengthen , and style my hair. Another painful setback and memory has to be when I used to pull back the front part of my hair and bobby pinned it to the center of my scalp. I was living in Minnesota at the time with frigid cold weather and little did I know that hair was breaking off in the center every time I did that style until one day I noticed that I had little to no hair in the center of my head! I really leaned on wild growth hair oil and moisturizer as well as a hairstylist who didn’t believe I needed to cut all of my hair off and start over! And in due time, my hair grew back and caught up to the rest of my hair 🎉❤

My biggest hair care set back was that I had reliable and consistent people to do my hair up until I was 26! When I moved away from home I was in shambles and sometimes too broke to get my hair done! Hello! My biggest haircare setback was getting a Japanese straightening perm. I couldn't deal with my thick hair and needed wash days to be easier. within the first week, I regretted it, and two months later, I big chopped again, and am back natural. I buy things like brushes that make detangling easier. I've been looking into the Revair to help cut down on time!

Hey Brii!! Congrats on reaching hip length anyway!! You'II get back there soon enough! 😊 For me my biggest hair setback was heat damage. In high school, all I knew was the flat iron. Using constant heat on my hair caused damage and my curls weren't so popping anymore. Watching YT videos really helped me learn how to take care of my hair. I started deep conditioning and avoided heat as much as possible. Now, when I do straighten my hair I use a good heat protectant and not so much heat. Now my hair is thriving and the longest its ever been!

Another one which is major for me and I'm still working my way around is using the wrong products for my hair. I've never used any chemicals in my hair all my life but I'm now actually starting to take care of my hair. When I started watching hair gurus on here, I started by products based on what would work for THEIR hair at the time. I had to realize that it doesn't work like that for everyone and stick to what works for me. Even if it's 3 products, work with it and keep your hair strong and healthy!

Julian from Uganda here, yes Uganda in Africa, but I have a friend in the US who I can use as my contact recipient. My biggest set back is the blow dry step in my routine, if I ever used the rev air in my routine, I have a feeling my hair would get healthier because I have failed to use these other blow driers. I'm just waiting for God to answer my prayer to one day get that drier to help make my hair routine simple. I recovered from it by cutting out the blow out step, I just air dry my hair. Thank you Bri and Rev air.

This is the 5th setback I'm telling you. My hair journey hasn't been the easiest but I'd be lying if I say that I haven't enjoyed every bit of it. Girl, these hair products are expensive!!! Lol that's definitely one of my setbacks. I believe if I am able to buy more hair products that deals with not just lenth but strengthening and just generally keep my hair healthy, I would've had a better journey. However, I'm not mad at it, I use ingredients I have in my kitchen and I buy products I can afford for now and I believe my hair is doing just fine! We're locked in! Anyway, thanks again, so much for giving back! Love your content always. Short form, long form, I'll be watching!

I love being apart of this community. Missed you Bri. You are one of many that has inspired me to make my own skin and hair care, and i have never been so happy with my skin and hair. Ive had a couple set backs. Once my mom turned my hair orange (a little exaggeration but it was dead). Then my dad (our personal relaxer tech) burned me. Another was taking out braids where my stepdad was more heartbroken then me that i wanted to cut the worst, matted knot in my har. Lastly, after learning to care for my hair I realized it wasnt growing because of my everyday exposure to chlorine. My hair is thriving after learning everyday!

One of my biggest hair set backs was in Winter of 2021. I was depressed, had just moved to a new place and wasn't taking care of my hair. I ended up not detangling it and my hair became matted. I had to spend all of 2021 detangling my hair. It literally took me four months but it was one of the best decisions I ever made. When I was finally done I was so happy.

My biggest hair care setback was not keeping my hair moisturized or using the comb too much which has caused me a lot of breakage. What I started doing was using good projects that are suitable for my hair porosity and began using those products to moisturize my hair while keeping it in protective hairstyles and I’ve seen a tremendous significant of growth and actually started retaining more length 🥰 Love your channel btw

I've started over with my hair at least 3 times and each time, it never fails. My hair hits a plateau where it gets to my shoulders then stops growing. On this most recent journey, I've really learned to be patient, and that's not only with my hair.

I have really dry 4c hair and it grows but it breaks so fast so my secret lol no secret trick for retaining growth is wash every 7 to 10 days do a hard protein treatment every 6 weeks pure deep moisture treatment at my 7 to 10 day wash midway this cycle of pure moisture maybe 3rd week use soft creamy moisture and proceed next 2 weeks with moisture and on 6th week start over with hard protein protocol. This is on an every 7 day wash. I promise this will keep your hair on your head! Bri I have wanted this blowdryer 10 years! Very exciting! Love your hair!!!!!!!!!! Yes braids the wrong way will destroy hair and edges!

hair set back this is a big one not being careful detangling my hair was a huge one I detangled my hair while I was tired and had a long day which resulted me yanking my hair! Each detangle was a battle, leaving me frustrated. Switching to a wide-tooth comb helped but I still did it roughly it was till one day I looked at the brush looked at my tiring face and used a slip leave-in conditioner it brought relief, transforming my hair struggle into serenity and ease!!!.

Hey Bri! My biggest hair care setback, was becoming lazy with my natural hair. When I first transitioned from permed hair to natural hair, I was very keen on keeping my hair and scalp moisturized every few days. I also kept my hair in mini twists which allowed the moisture to maintain throughout my hair for days. After 2020, I had gotten so lazy to the point that I stopped moisturizing my hair and I would only wash my hair every other week. Since this year, I decided to learn my hair porosity and what goes well with my hair to keep it moisturized. So, far it’s going alright, but I know I can work on my hair routine more.

I feel like a big setback for me, was using whatever products were popular. Not taking the time to learn my hair texture and what my hair needs. I’ve improved now by trying things according to my hair type. As well as sticking to the ones I know work best for my hair :)
@reacharles6312 ай бұрын
A setback that I've encountered when it comes to my natural hair is time management! It takes me an hour for most hairstyles which is usually like a sleek back bun or a low ponytail. I do blow out my hair before the majority of these styles so when I do it will take me 3 hours instead of 1 because I use a normal blow-dryer so the rev-air will help a ton! So far, I split it in 2 days, one day for prep and another for the styling
@ashlynjxo2 ай бұрын
Welcome backkk! You look gorgeous as always✨ I went natural (again) in 2016 and I’ve DEFINITELY had some setbacks along the way. 1. Following someone else’s hair care routine. When I first went natural, I’d follow the routines of content creators even if the methods and products didn’t work for my hair (because I wanted my hair to look exactly like theirs). Over the years I have created the perfect routine for ME by educating myself about natural hair. 2. Breakage. I’m sure most of us naturals have dealt some degree of breakage! Most recently I’ve dealt with a lot of it due to falling off my moisture routine and wearing slick backs 90% of the time😬I mostly did this out of convenience when I was in college and I’m still trying to repair the damage. I now make sure I set aside time to fit in other “less convenient” styles like mini twists and braids to avoid breakage

My third setback story (I'm sorry ya'll I have a few stories and this Revair would be SUCH a blessing because of how accessible and easy it is to use for someone who has joint pain flare ups! holding a regular blow dryer HURTS lol). I have anemia (super low iron) and with that comes hair fall and thinning ! I deal with this every once in a while where I find way more shedding/ breakage than normal. I basically combat this with protective styling. It has helped my hair recover from these setbacks as well as it kind of hides the thinness in my hair while I recover and increase the thickness fullness back to what its supposed to be!

My biggest hair care setback has been accidentally cutting my hair while taking out a protective style on 2 separate occasions, within months of each other😢. I took a break from styling my hair all together, and let my hair live in twists, plaits, and/or protected under head wraps. Those cut pieces have grown back, and now I’m tackling hard water damage! The progress isn’t linear, but it’s progress all the same. Glad to have you back, and congrats on the RevAir partnership! 🫶🏾🥳

I loved me some Mielle but I realized that it was harming me around a year ago. I also was fighting my dry scalp. After a lot of backtracking I realized that the oils I was putting on my scalp was enabling the problem. I decided to go old-school and start using sulfur 8 hair grease and I haven't had any issues since. Hemp oil works well too.

@voya50202 ай бұрын
I also experienced moisture overload when I became so focused on moisturizing my hair that I neglected protein treatments altogether. My hair started feeling overly soft, limp, and was very prone to breakage. It was hard to hold any style because the curls lacked structure. To fix this, I added light protein treatments back into my routine, which helped restore balance. I also started alternating between moisturizing and strengthening treatments, making sure my hair got the right amount of both. Gradually, my curls regained their elasticity and became more resilient.

My major set back was when I tore my rotator cuff and I was not able to do my hair the way I wanted to for a while. Did P.T. and started to get back on track, then COVID happened right after. I neglected my hair so bad because the pain came right back and it got worse. By that happening I completely got use to not doing my hair and neglected it for over a year. It got really bad and had to do some self reflections. Luckily I had minimal damage but it took over a week to detangle it even with the pain. Today I'm just waiting to get surgery on my arm and keep my hair styles minimal and try to do less as possible. So far this is helping since I work from home and not worrying about leaving home to go to work and doing something with my hair on their schedule

As a mother to two beautiful biracial girls my biggest setback was being an uneducated white woman when it came to natural hair. My girls had to endure the time it took me to learn to care for their hair, the countless products I have invested in and the many failed attempts at giving them a lasting hairstyle. But we have made it through 12 years of mama learning and I’m proud to say I can do many things with their hair (except braid to the scalp 😢), even though my 12 year old isn’t a huge fan of my work 😅. This revair would be incredible for us making styling times so much quicker once the hair has been stretched or I can let them run free with their mid back length hair if that’s what they choose to do. What an incredible product and opportunity for us all. Thank you for sharing this amazing tool with us! 😍

FIRST THINGS FIRST THANK YOU FOR EXTENDING THE TIME! I completely forgot until just yesterday night. One of my biggest setback was when I made the mistake of going back to my Dominican salon and getting a silk press for the first time since I went natural. I tell you they fried my hair ; more than half was bone straight. Tears were made but I decide to give it some TLC with bond treatments, deep conditioning, and stretch out styles like perm rod and twist outs. I was happy ; I made it work for 6 months and never went back to that lady.

Another set back was letting a hairstylist put tight, micro braids on my edge line!! 😭 The edges were too weak and literally fell out! My edges are struggling to this day and I’ve used Derma roller and oil to help them slowly grow back out 🥲

Another major setback has been consistency. Sometimes sticking to a schedule difficult, so breaking up my wash day has helped a lot. I'll detangle one day, wash and dry the next, and then style the day after. That helps it feels not so overwhelming

Another major setback is when I would trim my hair every other month, even though it was healthy and didn't need to be trimmed that often. Learning a lot on this natural hair journey!

I always see great reviews for it but whoa chall that price 😮. My hair use to be one of those do nothing and it flourishes but the last few years my shedding as been scary. My iron is always not at a normal range and my diet has cause me to loose a lot of hair. I changed my supplements and talk iron and vitamin D everyday and also incorporate plenty vegetables and water and my hair has been doing so much better. Also got a water filter for my bathroom and tried black tea rinses, which does make a difference.

One of the most annoying setbacks I’ve faced with my hair is single-strand knots. These tiny knots would form at the ends of individual strands and cause my hair to tangle or even break when I tried to detangle it. It drove me crazy! To address this, I made sure to keep my hair stretched more often, either through twists, braids, or blow-drying on a cool setting. This helped prevent my strands from coiling up on themselves. I also started trimming my ends regularly to get rid of damaged or knot-prone hair. Keeping my hair well-moisturized made it more manageable, and using a good detangling conditioner during wash days helped a lot in reducing knot formation.

Another hair setback i had was when I dyed my hair blue and did a relaxer in close succession. The breakage was unreal and the blue dye kept running and getting all over my shower for weeks. My hair was also really matted. I recovered with a ton of deep conditioning and low manipulation styles. I used no heat. My hair was always either air dryed or in a bun.

Maybe my biggest hair setback, apart from when I used to cut it, was not keeping it moisturized. I've been overcoming that setback by being more aware of when my hair is dry and working toward more consistent moisturizing. 🎉

My biggest hair setback is my lack of patience when it comes to tending to my natural hair and always resorting to protective styles. I am embarking on a journey to take the time to care for my hair and use the right tools and products that are best for my hair type.

I’m currently dealing with a setback from heat damage at the front of my hair due to blow-drying. I’ve always been known for having healthy, long hair, so this experience affected my confidence. But since cutting my hair earlier this year, I’ve had a MAJOR MIND SHIFT + realized that it’s okay to start over and embrace my own journey. My hair has been growing back healthier, + I want to show others that your hair journey is your own-starting over is perfectly fine. I’d love the RevAir to help repair my hair and give me a safer, more efficient blow-drying experience moving forward.♡

A huge hair setback I had was when I bleached my hair. In college, I loved my natural hair so much, I was so proud to wear it everywhere. But deep down I really wanted to do the fun colors my friends were doing. I was scared of damaging my curl pattern though. My friend managed to convince me to try bleaching just once, and my hair was never the same. It was dry and brittle, and of course, my curl pattern was damaged. I maintained it with extra moisture and frequent trimming. 4 years and a set of locs later, I’m finally bleach free and my hair feels so much healthier!

My biggest set back is when I started a new medication and it started making my hair brittle, thinning and came out in some places. I am 100% natural and boy did it look bad. I started using the Shea Mosisture Black Jamaican Castoral products and it grew back and now my whole head is extra thick now.... it now takes me 2 hours to dry my hair with a regular hair dryer..... I would love to try this product.

Once, I neglected my hair for too long between washes and detangling sessions, and I ended up with some serious matting-especially at the roots. I was worried I might have to cut some sections out because the tangles were so bad. To fix this, I patiently worked through the matted areas with a lot of conditioner and water, using my fingers first before bringing in a wide-tooth comb. I also learned the importance of protective styles, especially when I know I won’t have time to give my hair regular care. Keeping my hair in braids or twists for a few days helps avoid future matting.

Another setback is finding styles that are good for the climate I live in. I recently moved back to Houston from Los Angeles and some styles I use to do in LA don’t last as long/well here in Texas. I try different styles but my goal is to learn how to braid within the next 6 months. I believe that will make this journey easier because I’ll be able to do some straight backs or style with braids so the humidity won’t effect my curls too much

My biggest setback happenned sometimes after my big chop. My hair was shedding a lot and had lots of breakage. I figured out that is was due to the fact that my hair was extremely dry since I live in a very dry climate. I started to hydrate and moisturize my hair everyday and saw tremoundous result. I also took better care of my health.

Split Ends from Lack of Trims: Avoiding trims led to split ends traveling up my hair shaft. I now trim every three months, which has kept my hair looking fuller and healthier over time.

Before going fully natural, I used to use relaxers and texturizers to loosen my curls. At first, it seemed like a great way to manage my hair, but eventually, I noticed significant thinning, breakage, and uneven curl patterns. The relaxer chemicals had damaged my hair’s integrity, so I decided to transition to fully natural hair. I began trimming off the damaged ends gradually while deep conditioning weekly and incorporating strengthening masks into my routine. Protective styles were my go-to during the transition, allowing my natural curls to grow out without frequent manipulation. Once I had enough new growth, I did the big chop, and my natural hair journey began!

Moisture I would say moisture retaining moisture, sticking with haircare regimen, doesn’t matter how busy you get please remind yourself that taking care of your hair is self love as well. So now I’ve been marking on my calendar (iPhone) when I wash my hair, doing hot oil treatments, finger detangle be gentle with yourself. Being patient with the process because waist length isn’t everyone’s journey but to have healthy hair is most definitely everyone’s journey

A hair setback has been knowing how to properly detangled my hair. I used to be really rough and not using proper method so to detangle my hair which in turn cause me to have a lot of breakage . Now I’m at point where I know to make sure not to attempt detangled my hair while it dry. Also before I go in with a comb I make sure to finger detangle first and used a wide to comb also my favorite product that I used to dengue is the pre poo from AS I AM which makes a big difference for me and is very affordable as well.

My biggest haircare setback has been coloring it, as well as struggling to keep it moisturized. I feel like my hair would grow better stretched, but my curls are really sensitive to heat.

Hey Bri! I have (had) very curly waist length hair. My major setback back recently is heat damage and breakage due to heat styling and not deep conditioning and slick back buns. 😅 I’m currently working on minimal heat and protective styling. And of course deep conditioning and minimal tight hair styles. I’ve also cut some of the heat damage so I’m working on getting my hair back to the same length. ❤ congratulations on the collab with rev air. 😘

My biggest hair set back was breakage from wearing protective styles I would always style them the same so what I did was I started moving the ponytails are changing the parting or which side I wear my bangs out or if I wear bangs out cornrowing the edges and wearing mini twists

come on editing! My biggest hair setback was several years ago when I was doing Aphogee-level strength protein treatments WEEKLY. My hair felt great the first time, but then I just got carried away 😅. My hair became super dry and brittle and wasn't receptive to moisture. It took a lot of time, shampoo, and deep conditioner, but thankfully my hair went back to normal. There's some people in the natural hair community who are strict (and lowkey have only become stricter over the years lol) but I don't think the learning or setbacks ever stop, no matter how long you've been natural. So it's refreshing to see youtubers, especially OG ones like yourself, be transparent about it. TY! ❤

My biggest hair care set back was after I had gone back to my natural curls from 2014 but about a year later I succumbed to insecurities and pressure from people to go back to relaxed hair. I did it and experienced the worst hair breakage of my life. My hair was falling out and so limp like it had never been before. I was so sad, still had difficulty loving my natural look and immediately regretted bending under pressures. How I overcame it: I did a second big chop, learned what products worked for my own hair type and still learning everyday to love my texture as is. The pressure and influence to change still exists but I’m built stronger now just like my hair. ❤💛

My biggest hair care set back was going to the salon. My hair got ripped out constantly by people that were supposed to know how to do hair but did not care to do it well or with care. I fixed it by simply stop going and whatever hairstyles I needed to do, I did myself. I am trying to make more time for my hair so that I am not running to the salon last minute because I have somewhere urgent to be. If I cant do it or don't have the time then I simply try another style. Thanks Bri!

My major hair setback was postpartum. It dragged my edges. I cried first. I started researching KZbin videos on others who experienced it. I set a routine and focused on low tension styles. Those miracle drops helped as well.

Another hair set back I had was in November of 2022, I had just a gone through a very difficult move and had a few work deadlines immediately after that were very stressful. My hair ended up getting matted again after not detangling it for eight weeks. From January to about April, I had to patiently detangle my hair. Almost every day for four months. My scalp was on fire but when I was finally finished I was very happy.

My major setback is having Lupus. During flare up my hair sheds and thins so badly! Ugh! But I’ve noticed using green tea rinses and spraying my hair with my herb mixture I see less and less shedding! And of course making sure I take my vitamins, eat properly and drink my coconut water! Because if you are not healthy inside you won’t be healthy on the outside.

One of my biggest hair setbacks has been proving that my hair can grow long. I’ve always believed my hair could grow long and have heard from other people (close fam and internet) that “some people just can’t grow long hair” and I never thought that was the case but I just was never able to prove it, but with being consistent with my hair routines this is the longest and healthiest my hair has been and I know it’s gonna grow every longer if I keep being consistent
