Ask the Vet - Trailering safety tips

In this excerpt from the July 2019 episode of Ask the Vet ( • An Ask the Vet milesto... ), SmartPaker Dan and Dr. Lydia Gray go over things to think about when trailering your horse, including the type of flooring or bedding you have in your trailer (if any), whether or not your horse should be tied, as well as how to safely drive the trailer around. My pony mare, who is well into her 20’s, has very straight legs. She seems to be having some problems with her stifles. Her knees buckle and she has some difficulty with picking up her left hind for hoof care. She isn’t lame at all. Could she have some degree of arthritis? Is it something I should be concerned about? Will she have more problems in the future?

How do you use the cardboard..I solid pieces or cut up ?

How do you make cardboard/ paper bedding? Do you just shred it and then use it?

There are some companies that recycle the paper and sell it as bedding for animals. It’s not always available

Horses by Hulachowdown my dad owns a company and has a paper shredder so I could just steal his shreds 😂

Rubber Mats are good traction in my stock trailer ~ although they’re not for every horse or situation 👍

Just wondering if shipping boots/wraps are mandatory? I know that for my other gelding who trailers regularly they aren't really needed. So my miniature hasn't trailered in ten -ish years, so I'm just trying to figure out if I should use them for him.
