Chelsea, I'm new to learning APA, I'm 53 yrs old and decided to get back in school after being out of school for many years. One way I do it is read a passage, internalize get the meaning and re write in my own words, that's how I have helped some students reduce plagiarism percentage to less than 10% on Turnitin

IMHO: As there can be just one original idea and therefore source, every other version of it through semantic jugglery still amounts to plagiarism. It would also mean that citing a source other than the original would amount to undeserved credit being given.

Yeah, I wish they showed us how to summarize or paraphrase in school. It was so rarely done. We didn't get to practice it very often, even if students never wanted to. Either way, I suck at paraphrasing stuff I have no idea about. Also, it is hard to fully understand what I want to paraphrase because I usually do not care about it.

Why would you cite if you are having 0% plagiarism after paraphrasing? Or is it compulsory to cite? What if you read 2-3 papers on similar idea and you summaries all of them at a time?

Because you are still paraphrasing work that came from a different source, meaning the ideas presented are not your original ideas. You need to create a citation for everything you find in other sources
