I had a guy pull ahead of me at a Love’s the other day. Took 45 minutes to fuel because he was on the phone and let the pump click off and didn’t notice it. Then he pulled forward, went in and spent another 45 minutes buying snacks and tanking a shower. They were pressure washing four pumps so we were limited already and he STILL had the audacity to do something that inconsiderate.

I believe a lot of the problem is people feeling entitled and lack of consequences for those who are not as courteous and respectful. So many people these days are used to hiding behind the thought that if someone “corrects” them that they can just call the police and they will be let off.

I really do enjoy your videos. Im a new driver and in these manuals that the states give tell you not to signal to other trucks because of safety issues. I flick my lights because I know thats how we communicate, it can get lonely on these roads.

To fuel up up to 200 gallons drivers only need 10 mins in USA . However, they take 30 mins.

Not a truck driver but here’s a small thing for truck drivers from Mexico. I have an uncle who works for a car carrying company known as Larmex Autos, unit # 1282 (they just joined into another mega company out there called Grupo Trayecto ). When passing another driver especially at night it’s common practice if you’re getting passed by another driver to give a quick flash of the highbeams on your truck to signal to the passing driver that their trailer has cleared your truck and that it was safe to merge back in front of you. I don’t understand why not many drivers here use that system. Like I said before I’m not a trucker, but when I see a trucker trying to merge into my lane I slow down and give ‘em a flash of my highbeams so they can change onto my lane without issue. Stay safe out their drivers and thanks for all of your hard work🫡

Shouldn’t be flashing high beams because that can temporarily blind the driver. Instead, turn headlights off and on several times.

Somethin else that bothers me is pullin into a lot or a truckstop and the parked trucks sittin there with their headlights on blindin anyone who wants to back in. When i pull into a lot i turn my headlights of and just use my runnin lights. That way anyone backin in does not get blinded by me

Sooner or later you learn that good deeds makes you not only a good person but a better driver, it's not about telling the other guy how he should do his job and curse him for being ignorant, it's just sharing common sense and kindness, we all have our own responsability on the road. I don't look over people like strangers to me, I see them as my own family and making sure everybody goes home safe.

The new drivers simply don't care and it's one of the many reasons I got out of it. I ran teams and the last one I was with is a great example of this. He parked in the fuel late and didn't care I got in an argument with a couple other drivers wanting to start shit with me. Managed to talk both of them down. When I brought it up with my co driver he just laughed at me and ignored me when I said he can't do that. It's 100% malicious in my opinion. These younger people simply don't care about anybody else but themselves.

Yeah alot of our getting trained by mega carriers and mom and pops want us to have two years. But with the speed passing there will be guys going 63, im going 66mph and the guy will actually speed up because my truck was passing and the guy went from 63 to 66 then a huge line of vehicles started to honk and the truck i was trying to pass gunned it to 73 mph on a dime

There was manners 20 years ago. Today it's every driver for themself. There are too many ATA steering wheel holders that have been taught by other steering wheel holders with little to no experience. They don't teach respect anymore, if they teach anything at all.
@EricCutrer

Well that's what all of us truck drivers are, steering wheel holders, because that's what we do, we hold the steering wheel to steer the truck where it has to go. We are also diesel dogs, road runners, gear jammers, freight relocating engineers, and steering wheel holder is a newer nickname that's recently been added to the list.

I got a few pet peeves from other drivers. 1) I let u know u are clear to head back into the right lane after passing and u ignore me ( owner operators are real a holes about this) and they don’t thank me. 2) drivers refusing to use the right turn signal when going into the right lane and 3) speeding up and getting pissed off cause I wanna pass

Probably one of my biggest pet peeves is this, I hate going to the refinery and a guy is taking his break in front of one of the bays. Or when they pull out to get their BOL, they park right smack in the middle of the road and nobody else can enter pull beside them or get around them. Or the ones who “ drag their feet “ because they’re paid by the hour. Just my humble observation being a fuel hauler.

So heres the thing the truck stop only request that you pull forward infront of the fuel station the truck stop does not require that you go park and come inside at the same time drivers need to be patient and allow there fellow drivers to take care of there business if sitting for 15 or 20 mins is going to make you late for your next stop then you should trip plan better so that in cases where you have to sit and wait you can

2 lane roads wave 👋🏼 we still do that type of gesture on Native Reservation, Yes no lie I know in the SouthWest NM driving down their rural roads they still do a finger up while your hand is holding the steering wheel it's a gesture to wave at one another. Been driving since 1988, and it seems like there's only two kinds of drivers out there today, rookies and hacks! The good drivers have either retired or have died off. I'm a Teamster and I drive local, it's rare to see another driver that can hit the dock on the first shot, there's no brotherhood out there, seems like rivals between other trucking company's.

I like that you always emphasize that if you see a driver parking on the fuel island, to politely talk to them about it. I think there's such a lack of common courtesy and it does no good to be aggressive toward people. Speaking calmly carries more weight imo.

Gents and laddies, what grinds my gears ⚙️ ⚙️ is just the lack of common human decency that has become normalized. Some background, I grew up with my dad and uncles hauling gravel, lime, coal, and grain in Northeastern Ohio. And, I remember the Montfort Kenworth’s hauling ass across I-80. It’s the little things that move into the bigger picture. Case in point of poor manners, so when a truck passes you in the left lane, “Montfort Lane” and they clear your truck you give a courtesy headlights flash lights that you’re clear to come on over to the right lane. And, then the driver that passed you gives you a thank you marker light flash back. I see know a lot more drivers don’t care and keep on rolling. No common courtesy and professional brotherhood. It’s just a shame! Your both out on the lonely road and you can’t even a knowledge a courtesy and friendly thank you Mack, and/ or Good Buddy “have a good day!” I miss those good ole boy truckers and the brotherhood. Bring it back drivers. 😊

i held up a truck in my truck/5th wheel this summer. approaching a traffic circle when i should have gone since i had my own lane and didnt need to merge but it was an unfamiliar area, heavy traffic, and i didnt want to make the wrong decision so gave it a few extra seconds so i could merge if i needed to. this guy passes me and big middle finger i received. i felt bad but always wonder about the ettiquete of truckers. who's wrong there? i should have gone and not impeded traffic, but, i feel like his reaction was a bit much also.

The rules have changed, such as: You shall park in and alongside the fuel island and in front of others parked in spaces. You shall wear flip flops and pajamas. You shall pass slower traffic on the shoulder. You shall ignore space when passing and merging. You shall sit in the middle or left lane as long as you desire. You shall speed up at your convenience whenever another truck is about to pass you. You shall leave your bodily fluids wherever you like, in or out of bottles and containers.

🤠 I agree with you, but you don't drive every day anymore and you can't see what's going on, now there's no room at all fuel Island any more , at the fuel pumps where you refuel! so even if you want to use the restroom, there are at least 6 new drivers standing in line to the toilet with plastic bottles of water to wash themselves in the toilet, or they are watching movies and blocking the toilet and your time! and you don't even have a chance! These new drivers piss me off because they litter everywhere and sometimes I should go out and kick their ass😠😡

Ive been a Truck Driver since 2011 and spent some of those years working on water truck and heavy equipment and i couldnt deal with egos in construction. Yes its bad in Trucking at times and we get treated poorly by shippers/ recievers and the public and even other truckers.. but i think id rather be in a truck by myself then on a crew in a construction atmosphere. I cannot begin to tell you how difficult it is to work with people in the trades at times. A few good people but too many egotistical drama queens and no its not worth the money and bennys to me. F that.

Dave, ill tell you where the confrontational drivers come from. Its the customers we deal with. Brokers don't care why your late and they dont care if their customer is fine with you being late or runs FCFS. If your not there when they want you there, they keep 30% of the load pay as a penalty.

Let me address the parking on the fuel island issue briefly. 1. After 7pm your not finding an easy place to park for a 15 min run in to use the restroom or grab a snack. 2. Diarrhea happens, I'm not taking 15 min to park when I'm about to shit myself, I wouldn't expect you to either. 3. From an insurance prospective any time you back up your taking a risk. In order to minimize the chance of an accident, you shouldn't be backing up for any reason including parking unless necessary. In a truck stop people get impatient, especially in Weed CA where someone backing in blocks the exit. It's not uncommon for people to jet behind a truck that is offsetting for a 45 or 90. In most states any time an accident occurs while a vehicle is backing up, fault is assigned to the vehicle traveling in reverse. The only exception to this is intentional fraud where someone hits you deliberately for insurance money or when someone ignores a flagger/police officer. The last thing you want to explain to claims or safety is that you had an accident that WILL be deemed preventable after you hit a truck backing into a tight space or someone sideswiped your ass end in a hurry, just so you could get a sandwich or use a toilet without inconveniencing someone for 15 - 30 min. You also don't want to have to explain to your dispatcher why what should have been a 15 - 20 minute bathroom break made you over an hour behind backing into and pulling out of a space. As drivers we need to always think about safety, risking an accident that will cost thousands over 15 - 30 minutes IS NOT WORTH IT. Be patient we all have to eat and use the bathroom. This being said nothing here is meant to be an excuse to block the file island for a long period of time. If you need to shower or want to sit down for a meal, DO IT AT THE END IF YOUR DAY WHEN YOUR PARKED. Need a rest room and food? Swing up to the pay line run inside, use the bathroom and surveil the situation, if the fast food joint is busy get something out of the deli cooler or vice versa, if the truck stop is really busy move on to the next one. Being reasonable to each other is not a license to park on the fuel island for over an hour. Prior to being a truck driver I worked in the private security industry where all I did was manage risk. Trust and believe if I am the safety director and you call me saying you busted up the front end of a truck trying to back into a tight space just to go inside for 30 minutes costing us thousands of dollars in insurance claims and a lot of time while you had to sit their filling out paperwork and jumped both our insurance plus safety scores with a DOT reportable (break the radiator and it's getting towed period), and I will fire your ass. My reasoning is that you lack the common sense to weigh risk VS potential cost VS reward. A $20k repair bill is not worth not wanting to inconvenience others. We make these same judgement calls going down the road when deciding wether or not to shut down for weather. If getting killed in a blizzard is not worth it compared to being a day late, then hitting someone's truck is not worth trying to not inconvenience another driver for 20 minutes.

I think it's a lot drivers who are not from this part of world. They even speak English they dirty and rude. That half the problem and they aren't trained right. I was driving on route 20 in LA a few days ago in right hand lane going 73 mph. I had a young guy race in front of me {in a big truck} and cut me off to get an exit . So I got beside him and laid on the horn the guy just waved his hand at me. Perfect example of what you say.

How about this .....tie your maximum speed and horsepower to your experience and driving record. It is what they do with pilots. You are not able to just go get a Pilot's License and then proceed to fly a multi engine jet powered passenger plane. The more you know and and can demonstrate that knowledge, the more privileges you acquire and the more money you make. If you insist that you have the ability....show us.
