The former sneak at Rogueford Hall Dan Backslide was tired of his plans constantly being foiled by The Dover Boys, so he instead decided to join the battlefield of Lawl, where he could show his true skills! This coward, bully, cad and thief will use everything from his life of debauchery to win. Will he be beaten senseless once more?
From the time between this set and the last, Frisk has not only surpassed 100k views, but it even surpassed The King himself as the most viewed Lawl moveset! This is completely insane, and I have to thank you crazy Undertale fans for making this happen. Even with a comment section I dread looking at, it’s still crazy how much it has blown up.
A special thanks to Hammer Man for help with certain things in this set, and a thanks to ThatCheesyBastard for help finding assets for a certain character. Speaking of… can you recognize all the cameos at the end?

It's amazing how much you can pull from a 9 minute short like this. You managed to represent all of Dan's most quotable scenes and I feel like all of the moves manage to take concepts that could have been very generic in the wrong hands, but manage to make them good. I like how Neutral B isn't just the basis of a Boss Character as it's not as influencial as Jameson's Hire or Marik's Steve Contract, how the Side B wasn't just a basic vehicle (I love the STEALING function, by the way), how Up B was distinctive enough from other Cloud Related moves, how Down B was not just a cheap healing move and, of course, how the Final Smash was not just a "grabbing" Final Smash. It's a thing I really like about the good Lawlers nowadays, they always manage to find a way to make certain concepts like those distinctive enough from other similar attacks but without being too gimmicky. Also that ending was fantastic, and I'm not just saying it because of the Guybrush cameo. I liked everything about it, mainly how you gave the quote "I HATE TOM, I HATE DICK AND I HATE LARRY" a completely different context.

I had to double-check that stand animation for how hilarious it is. He has like 4 minutes of sources and you gave twists to every little detail that could seem generic. That ending made want a bro show. Could this be even better? NO ONE WILL NEVER KNOW!

Not only am I impressed to see a Looney Tunes character in Lawl, I'm even more impressed on how you came up with a moveset for a character from a one-shot short! The concepts themselves are clever takes on basic concepts, such as having Dan steal an opponent's vehicle if he comes into contact with them and having the opponent try to bust of of the shack rather than immediately getting KO'ed. I also really love Backslide's animations here. The use of the in-between frames makes him look like a cartoon character of his time rather than just a regular fighter, and even the little details such as the small smoke text and drinking bar look amazing. The victories are the best looking ones yet, and the outro was a pleasure to watch. It helps that Gaston and Dan appeared in a YTP together, so it makes their interaction even better than it is. Overall, this is by far my favorite moveset coming from yours, and Dan has officially become my Beatdown main! BTW, thanks for the shout-out!

Jesus. Ever-loving. Christ. Shad, what the actual fuck. How do you make something this unbelievably fantastic it's god damn criminal. The Hatred Mechanic, the zippy and hilarious animations, the playstyle, THE RUNABOUT, THE OUTRO, it's all so beautiful. Being completely straight-up, this is my favorite moveset. Of the entire community. It's so easy to see just how much effort was put into this. Add Dan to my list of Beatdown mains because I absolutely love this character. You've outdone yourself with each and every moveset you've made and it's awe-inspiring. I HATE TOM, I HATE DICK, AND I HATE LARRY!

Jesus christ, what a packed moveset this was. Even if most of it's moves all came from the first 3 minutes of the show it was still great. His playstyle is unique and even if each move isn't super special, the moves still make Dan a great option with his strengths and flaws, and his alcoholism is nicely incorporated there. And the ending cameo segment was superb. The presentation of visuals was even better, and you are constantly improving. Looking forward to Viola...and the Jojoke.

I just have to comment on this one. Seriously this is such an amazing moveset for a character with barely any screen time. All the ideas from this I expected to be executed very basic came out 2x better than I had imagined. I especially love how you implemented Dan's unsavory hate for others. Also that ending was just fantastic. Good job

This was a very eventful month. Waligie, Walrus Grandpa, Nova Items/Assists 2, What If Stages, and now topped off with our favorite Coward-Bully-Cad-and-Thief. Honestly, everything here worked incredibly well. Even with only 9 minutes of source, somehow you were able to give him a great moveset that befits his personality and the style of the cartoon really well, while making some surprising decisions. Like the Up B riding on a smoke cloud? Wouldn't of thought of that, but it works surprisingly well. And yet again, the Final Smash is a unique, fun idea. I'm also glad that more people are taking up those moveset explanations. I could go in detail over the different aspects and what I loved, but I'm sure others have covered that well enough. So I'm just gonna say that I'm so excited for what Viola and Psycho Dad are gonna bring next. And by the way, everything about that outro was _perfect._ JoJokes and L.A. Beast included.

Shad my boy, your Lawl is Chincherras quality. Great moveset too! Very unique and interesting, and that's another thing I like about Beatdown, most characters are unique, with very little generic moves, and (as with most lawl channels I watch) have no duplicate characters like Brawl, or Smash 4. You, my friend, are the reason I consider making Lawl videos.

What a perfect thing to wake up to. Who needs caffeine when you have exquisite moveset videos like this to enjoy. From the way you incorporated everything memey about Dan (his tendency to drink, a runabout, etc) into well crafted specials, to that hilarious Frollo Show-esque ending, it's clear you've mastered the formula for Lawl. The Final Smash being a personal favorite as it's reminiscent of this old Assist Trophy I designed for Lou Albano Mario (Think his drug PSA but taken dead seriously). Thanks for giving one of the best Looney Toons an A-Grade moveset, and thanks for giving me another reason to be hyped for JOOOOOJOOOOO!

When this character was confirmed I was wondering how Backslide was gonna work. But, you managed to pull a YTPguy on me and make an awesome moveset of a character with very limited source material. (In YTPGuy's case was Toon Dr. Mario) I know I just said this about Frisk, but this is probably my new favorite Lawl Beatdown set. Your sets are just getting better and better. Plus I really enjoyed all the cameos at the end. :D

Just a nitpick, the name of Dan Backslide's former school is Roquefort Hall; all the school names in the short are based off of cheeses (Pimento University and Miss Cheddar's Female Academy), as the original Rover Boys (the basis of the parody) included a school by the name of Colby Hall.

This isn't the first time Dan Backslide and Gaston met. When Gaston was pissed about King Harkinian's supposed over- taxation, Dan overheard him and said he hates the King and Link too and that they drive him to drink and drive. That inspired Gaston to gather an angry mob and lay siege to Hyrule Castle. Although Gaston and the King ultimately made peace, Dan Backslide was never seen in the pub again in years. Most likely he was arrested for drunk driving.
