I really respect your decision to refrain from jumping straight into workshop immediately and truly appreciate the base game. It's incredibly good and most people miss that because they just go right into the crappy mods and drop the game as soon as they get bored of them.

I wouldn't really say crappy mods, but yeah, I rather check out the base game first and gain some general knowledge about the moveset, stats, neutral, etc., before I go whacko mode and use jotaro vs. ronald mcdonald

It’s honestly incredible just how good KZbinrs are at downloading like 50 pages worth of Workshop characters and barely getting a single character that isn’t a Sandbert clone or Sans with Gun

to be fair, workshop stuff is amazing, and rivals is one of the few notable platform fighters out there besides brawlhalla and nasb2 that offer sufficient casual content, and people generally dislike brawlhalla and nasb2, so it makes since that most people who hear about the game, go straight for the cool workshop stuff

yes... yes!! someone playing rivals of aether for what it is!! without a million workshop mods!! glad to see you had fun with it! if you want to play more i recommend looking up how DI differs in rivals compared to smash, the mechanics are quite different and they make an even bigger impact on survivability

I'm very excited to see more, and I hope I can challenge you, someday! By the way, DI is a bit different here in Rivals, as you seemed to notice- You have to DI perpendicular to the angle you get launched, else it will be less effective

Id strongly recommend mollo since you enjoy link. A good amount of disjoints and lots of wacky setups you can do with bombs. Flashbang into charged fair gives me funny brain chemicals

Great vid honestly, I would love to see your progression in getting good at this game especially since I rarely see content other than roa tournaments Also cause I play switch and get no games (no cross play) it’s cool seeing how other players that aren’t in pro level play

Now that you’re getting into Rivals of Aether, might I recommend going into the workshop and downloading a few custom characters? There’s BoTW Link, ToTK Link and 64 Mario if you want to get started. The only downside to having to play with workshop items is that you have to connect with a player that also has the item you want to play with. You can’t play as ToTK Link with someone who doesn’t have the item.

Best way to get good ones is to go into collections and look for tournament rosters, always nothing but good characters in those.

Good stuff! I know Rivals of Aether has been out nearly a decade now and the sequel will be coming eventually as well, but I've never actually tried this game. Smash Ultimate is like my favorite game ever, so just always stuck with that and just figured Rivals of Aether was a generic knock-off. Though, it definitely looks like fun and I might have to give it a try. I always find it funny that the Switch versions of most modern game ports are always the most expensive, yet they usually are inferior compared to like the Steam versions (which generally are cheaper in price). Nintendo always has that additional "Switch tax". 😅

Clairen, the character that he was playing, has a mechanic where the tip of her sword is supercharged. Hitting opponents with the tip of your sword causes them to get stunned, as well as get dealt extra damage.

Not into link, but definitely into Smash Bros itself when we combine 64, melee, brawl, smash4 and ultimate. It's just hard to depict every Smash title in a tiny thumbnail, so I went with one recognizable character who was in every single one of them.

If you ever decide to get into Workshop, I’d definitely recommend not doing it over quickplay tbh. You’re likely to run into either laggers with like 5 characters installed, or someone like BendyJW who plays the game nonstop and steamrolls people 😅 Friends or Discord matchmaking games are usually the best/recommended way to play Workshop for that reason lol
