And if the wolf is actually good? He spams laser to condition jump, then short hop laser to catch your jump. So you mix up your spacing a bit to adapt, wolf does a full hop away and b reverses his laser. Your mixup doesn't work and he catches your jump with a buffered fair. So you try to beat out his fair with a faster approach, you get hit with the gun's hitbox... He is no fun for new players.

Adapt to what he's doing. If he lasers then fairs, shield dash in to stop the laser then antiair him with eg an uptilt. Then, if he's good, he'll adapt and start running in for a grap to counter the shield dash, so you'll have to adapt too by jumping over and punishing the missed grab, etc.

I think the biggest problem are the ones who have multiple projectiles that can be out at the same time, like Young Link, or to an lesser extent, Samus and Mii Gunners. Characters that can set up traps covering multiple options at once. Especially Young Link that not only has 3 great projectiles, also has great aerials with a sword to cover even more options. They can condition you to approach in a certain way by limiting your options and then punishing you with a fast aerial because they know when you are going to approach because they are the ones controlling the pace of the game. I know this is super hard for you to make a video of because you do it by yourself, so I understand

@tomc.57045 жыл бұрын
Hm. Depends on a few things. Obviously, if you can approach without getting hit, follow the general steps JTails laid out. But at some point? You just gotta be patient. Don't run in when they have their perfect trap set up, with the boomerang out and coming back. Dodge the boomerang, dodge the arrow, then approach behind the boomerang. If you can get close enough that they can't safely throw the boomerang again, now you have your chance. Rushing in feels great, but if they're spamming projectiles then you've gotta be patient too. Keep your options open until THEY make a mistake. And if they camp with projectiles, while conditioning you, while playing super safe, while reading _your_ options? Oof.

You can cancel the landing lag by canceling an aerial charge move with airdodge such that the animation to stop charging ends a frame before you touch the ground and in that case you can shield frame 1.
@hiphops80825 жыл бұрын
Please explain what this means to me. I need to know.
@andleepfarooqui78745 жыл бұрын
Kid Plus Easiest way to see is to play Samus, jump in the air and charge charge shot and neutral airdodge 5-6 frames before touching the ground (airdodge won’t come out, just hit shield). During this 5-6 frame window while the “put gun away animation plays” buffer a jab or dash or tilt or whatever. You’ll notice that you skip the 4 frames of hard landing and go straight into your desired action on touching the ground. This also works if you just keep holding shield from your airdodge when you touch the ground. I don’t remember if it’s different timing for shield or not rn. If you want, I can try to make a short video demonstrating this tech with explanation? Replace charge shot with any other charge move that lets you store charge (shiek’s needles, dk’s punch, cloud’s limit, pirahna plant’s gas) and you get the same effects. I’ve been trying to use it as Cloud to mix up tomahawk timing, etc. and Samus because it’s just a small, nice-feeling optimization
@hiphops80825 жыл бұрын
Andleep Farooqui oh. I was totally confused by how you phrased it. Charge canceling is a good option, but only a few characters can do it. And even then, it’s main use is as a landing option when combined with b-reversing. You could theoretically use it to get shield up in time, but it would be better to simply move forward and avoid the projectile. What I’m saying is you could use your aerial drift in order to avoid the laser even after you’ve used your jumps

This is more like a "part one" video for ACTUALLY dealing with projectile spam. As annoying and as strong as Wolf's laser can be, it's only one level of the equation. What about Links who are creating literal walls of arrows and diagonal boomerangs/bombs with very little end lag? What about everything you spoke of here with Wolf and Link on a stage with platforms? What about Villager's Lloid/Slingshot combos? And that's all without considering mixups. Personally I'd love to hear more about approaching a projectile spammer who camps under a platform. Even as a Villager with a lot of projectile options of my own (and a handy pocket), Link players under plats are VERY obnoxious to deal with.

I agree, I was playing in a tourney earlier today against a Toon Link as Incineroar. I can’t physically get there fast enough without being punished, if I try to come from above then they can just run under my slow movement or even just hit me back into the spam, even standing away wasn’t an option since they could always hit and I wouldn’t even be able to stop them f coming closer if they had to. This video is just how to avoid a projectile, it covers no sort of spam.

There is basically three possible mechanics at work. 1.) Getting counterhit. Two players do a move “at the same time”, but one of the players moves has too much start up lag, and the other move comes out before the other players move has an active hit box, and therefor they get hit. This is totally on that player, they are too slow and choosing bad moves. This is most likely what is happening and they probably complain about how they did a move and it got “beat out” 2.) Priority. It is rare at low levels, but if two move’s hitboxes connect directly, then the move with more priority among other factors will win, although this will usually result in a trade. This happens a lot of you are comboing characters that have a fast nair for example, and they mash it out of hitstun and when you go to hit them again, you will trade with the nair. This can be pretty common but probably isn’t what they are talking about unless it’s the nair example I described. 3.) Disjointed hitboxes/transcendent hitboxes. Certain characters like Marth, Lucina, Ike, Link, etc (sword characters mostly) have moves where the hitbox of the move isn’t connected to their own hurtbox, because they have a sword. This essentially means their move will beat out any other move it comes in contact with, unless you outrange it. You cannot trade with it or beat it outright.

I don't have the opportunity to jump because the opponent just starts spamming projectiles, this is not even an example of projectile spammers, because if it was there would already be 50 projectiles coming toward you on screen already, and you would have to shield but then you'd be stuck because they keep sending more.
@SeikOsito5 жыл бұрын
Versus projectile/defense players, despite my playstyle being aggresive/pressure I tend to stay back more. The difference for me is i do that as soon as the match is starting, you don't want to wait till the opponent has advantage. Cause now they want to camp and have advantage. However if you start the match cautiously and they're spamming you can start to notice a window of endlag that gives you you're approaching option. You can jump/shield/etc. And you dont want to stick to just one of these options. You don't want to just jump over projectiles cause then you can get anti-aired or hit by an aeriel. You dont want to consistently run and shield cause then they could run up after projectile and grab.

Victor Scherman You’re totally right in that they reduce direct aerial landing options from above. But, they improve overall mobility. Example, someone is camping under the low platform on the right side of battlefield, and you are on the ground shielding the projectiles on the left side. You could jump on the left platform, jump to the middle platform, run down to the right platform. At this point you’re getting pretty close to your opponent, so they will do something. A quick example is that you could drop down from the platform instant aerial, or run off the platform towards the center of the stage and instant back air as you drop off the platform to catch if they try running towards center stage

I fight against a Link that spams items. It sucks super bad. Once I finally make it in, his sword reach demolishes me. Once I finally do get in and get a hit, it's on, but the initial approach sucks ass.

Unfortunately this is only if they throw one projectile. If they throw 2 they sometimes can cover jump. Dealing with projectile spam isn't always about not getting hit with the projectile it's about not getting baited to do a move your opponent wants you to because you tried to avoid the projectile. Jumping to avoid projectiles isn't safe unless you're far because that gives them a free anti air. If you're a heavy then shielding a projectile isn't always safe because after 3 shields you'll get shield poked. And your opponent should know about this if they play that way. So knowing that all you can do is jump they'll be ready to meet you in the air. And that's where I struggle at. Another thing is wolfs laser isn't a hard projectile to escape. There's Simon's and Snakes projectiles that are so good that they can cover all defense options to them

Every time I encounter projectile spammers I choose Samus for the next round to annoy them and show them how trash their playing style is by spamming a ton of projectiles. This way they realise that this trashy strategy is no fun for your opponent and often rage quit. I think that this is a better advice than ‚avoid the projectiles‘ because that’s pretty much what everyone is trying to do.

I'm only watching this because Nintendo refuses to nerf, to any meaningful extent, Links massive arsenal of projectiles. Small changes for that character could make him bearable to play against as well make matchups against him more fair, like the majority of the other character matchups.
@JulesTrades5 жыл бұрын
luckily with the release of joker they nerfed all projectiles with the game. I hope after the patch and if you watch my 3 videos on projectiles, it helps you out overall.

@@JulesTrades You have been most helpful. I never had any issues with pretty much any projectile character except Link. There is just something terribly wrong giving a single character all the weapons necessary to cover short, mid, and long distances. Not only cover all of those distances, but give him remote bombs, a longer sword, and allow him to cover those distances well, rather than just be a jack of all trades, master of none. What I would have liked to see is something similar to Robin's tome recharge, when it came to Adult Links bombs and Bow. At least the bombs. Would make using bombs a bit more strategic, like how they are designed to be, rather than spammy.

@@JulesTrades yeah, I see alot of "but what if wolf does something else?" Personally I like thinking about the game in terms of probably for various actions. When you're at full stage, laser has 95% probably of occurring. As you approach, that number decreases as the probably of other actions increase. You'll never know for sure what your opponent will do, but you can at least try to play the odds wisely 😉
@JulesTrades5 жыл бұрын
Well the thing is that probability doesn't matter in that situation. Why? because if wolf does ANYTHING different from that distance, you can react to it because he's not close enough to hit you. If you see laser, you jump or block it. It was moreso a demonstration for the specific scenario but reacting vs predicting is definitely an important topic in fighting games as well.

What's your advice against Zelda's down B? It covers most of the ground and the air on half the stage and you can't tell when it pops. Can't just shield or give the stage away for free. I think we should go full agresive on her, but mixing things up.
@JulesTrades5 жыл бұрын
zelda down b. while she's charging you have to hit her first. If you know you're unable to do that. Then retreat away since it has a sent distance. Or double jump over it. you could shield but she could break your shield or grab you so I wouldn't recommend. that's it pretty much
@alexcomo955 жыл бұрын
If we double jump, it's a free punish because of the landing lag. We don't even know the exact moment it will pop (a good Zelda player just immediately lands up-air anyways, they see this bad habit all the time). They even hide behind it to not get hit by projectiles. Retreating gives the stage away and limit your options. I think we are limited to the aggressive option. It just gets harder for a brainless down-B.
@JulesTrades5 жыл бұрын
I gave you the answer, and I'm telling you how I punish it or avoid it consistently without getting punished at all. There are no other answers to this question. I don't think the aggressive option is optimal in every situation.

How do i deal with Ridley's charge neutral? It's rather hard to block since you cant get out as he dashes and grabs. Jumping is kinda hard since you'd double jump and essencially making yourselve close and weak. Airdodge is just worse in this case from what i can see. If i dont move it'll just become a really long cycle of that player repeating. I know there are ways to deal with it but it's really hard to intuitively react when you are kinda annoyed :c
@JulesTrades5 жыл бұрын
just block it all the first time. if you know they will do it again double jump and punish him. You can double jump over the whole move as well but just hang back a bit. don't dodge it

This doesn't help, you didn't tell me what to do when they constantly shot missiles and charge shots. I run into a lot of Clouds on online that spam their projectile as rapidly as they can. Jumping a projectile usually means eating the next one, and my shield only takes so much dmg before it's in danger of breaking. Obviously this isn't very high level play, on their part, but it feels like I take a lot of damage just to get in. Any suggestions?
@JulesTrades5 жыл бұрын
You can jump over one, then shield the other. Or jump and drift back so that you can jump the next one. If you know they're going to do 2 projectiles in succession, you can double jump over both and fall with an attack.
