It's true. I fought a Ganondorf player as Rosalina and I was comboing them like crazy feeling really awesome with the character. And then he hit me with one charged for 1.5second F Smash at edge of stage and I died in one hit. The game was over from that point on and Luma renounced me as its mother, never to join the battle again.

A thing I see a lot in a online matches is that people don't use their shield effectively. They do shield, BUT they let go of it too early (I see them do this way too often). For example, if I use Lucina and use my side-B, they will most likely block the first 2 - 3 hits, but then they just for whatever reason drop their shield and get hit. Remember: "If in doubt, leave shield out"

I'm surprised to see the advice to not use dash dancing that much, but I'm glad to see it here! In all kinds of guides, even for beginners, I see dash dancing promoted as the best way of movement. As a Sheik main, the only kill set ups I worry about are Bouncing Fish (off stage), F-Smash (at ledge), Up air (around 150-190%), and Stage gimping with back air at around 40%. I have no idea if others have this issue as well, but I actually have a kinda bad habit of always releasing shield to use an out-of-shield option, even if I dont need to. It's most noticable when I release shield to do a grab and then lose to something that should have been slower than my grab, since I exited shield first. It's lost me quite a few games over time, haha. I still do it even now. I'm happy that not all of these bad habits apply to me though, it gives me some sense of validation that I'm at least doing something right. I'll still definitely need to work on the ones that do apply, though.

For me, the airdodge, shield, and ledge options are most important to know. Like you said, and it pains me, but people on elite love to just drool on their a buttons. I hardly EVER see people shield in neutral or shield and play a little defensively out of their disadvantage. Same thing goes for people who spam airdodge out of combos or jump from ledge. Online, its extremely hard to punish sometimes due to latency. However, in a normal setting it would be called out immediately. Thanks for pointing stuff like this out! Tl;dr: if you see someone repeating options, form a plan around it, its simple! If you find yourself getting punished for the same thing once or twice in a row, try something else!

Agree with everything you said except a little of the bit about “knowing what your kill moves are”. I do think it’s important but on for a certain range of damage percentage. Considering that most of the time you won’t get a kill at early percent and are almost guaranteed a kill at any hit around higher percentages like 170+ (rough estimate), you can get by with not focusing so much on those kill moves in certain situations. It’s definitely a good thing to know about, but i don’t think its necessarily a thing to here “I need to focus on doing this immediately” when fighting

This is probably a dumb question, but let's say you do stale your moves out, what actually resets your moves to go back to the original damage that they are meant to do. Like for example, is it on your next stock that resets this, or maybe your opponents next stock, like what are a list of things that can reset your moves damage count to its original amount?
@JulesTrades

Is it worth to spam moves you dont use otherwise while the opponent is down? If I understand correctly, there is a limited ammount of stale moves, so it should be possible to overwrite the list with useless moves, right?

@JulesTrades
@JulesTrades 5 жыл бұрын
I think that spot dodging is a really dangerous habit to have. I don't use it much because especially in previous games, good players will punish you hard. However I will use it from time to time when I know someone will try to grab me. I still try not to rely on it because I don't want it to be habit. If someone is dashing up to grab you, you have a few options. Spot dodge, jab/attack them before they grab, since they're not gonna shield, short hop back, short hop in place,

Sorry to be pedantic, but its good to be precise with all the tech words. It was really confusing for me at first. You can't cancel your dash with shield, you can cancel *running* with shield. Like you explain, that's why dash dancing is bad.

getting hit all the time? It sounds like maybe shielding more would help you out? I'll be making another video that will explain more things to fix. You can play slow, and reaction time doesn't matter as much. but you have to be ready to block things, anticipating might need work.

I would LOVE to see a video about grabs; getting them and avoiding them. This is probably the biggest gap in my game: it rarely even OCCURS to me to go for a grab, and when it does, I can't get one to save my life (which sucks, because I play NESS, the backthrow GOD). Meanwhile I'm using my shield as a security blanket and my opponent is throwing me around stage like... something that gets thrown... a lot... I need better similes...

Ah for me the bane of my gameplay is almost no grabbing! Idk how you’re supposed to do it but I can never successfully grab. I space too much and never land close enough to grab or they’ll hit me or dodge before I can. I wish I could grab more because I’ve mastered pressuring my appointment to shield a lot (I main ROB.) so I needa figure that out. Anyone know what I could do?
@ElementUser
@ElementUser 5 жыл бұрын
You have to know what range and situations your opponent likes shielding at. If you're using your specials at long range they will likely shield. You have to mix up your special usage at medium to short range sometimes by combining them with movements so they know that they are vulnerable to your specials at this range too. Then when they shield in these situations is when you can go for a grab. Also doing aerials on them will likely make them shield or get out of your aerial range
@noahjimenez5290
@noahjimenez5290 5 жыл бұрын
ElementUser yeah that sounds about right! I don’t really do specials in short range but definitely use my ariels. But when I come down on them they usually sidestep or a I do a dash grab and miss and get punished. Maybe I should fast fall without the nair or fair? But yeah I will definitely try my laser and gyro at shorter range! Thanks!
@ElementUser
@ElementUser 5 жыл бұрын
@@noahjimenez5290 there is a particular range of distance where a projectile character's options are a little ambiguous, especially when mixed in with ambiguously intentioned movement. Players can perform movement patterns like B-reverse specials or a short hop into a special, but drifting back slightly after the jump instead of drifting 100% towards the opponent with the special, and so forth.

It's only worth playing what you're comfortable on and having enough buttons to do all the things you want to. A pro controller is great.
