And the award for My Nuts are Made of Tungsten Unobtanium goes to... A very brave full size Tundra wheeler! I'm more kitted up for pre-running, but much respect for guys running their trucks through the rocks and making it look easy! 👍

Excellent video! People do tons of videos with walk-around's of cool Tundra builds, but very few with decent actual offroading. I am always hesitant to go to some places due to the size of the Tundra. Thanks for showcasing the capabilities of this platform.

That's some crazy off-roading in a nearly stock Tundra
@off-roadingexplained8417 Жыл бұрын

Nearly stock……. Except for tires, wheels, lift kit, rear locker, sliders………… nothing “nearly stock.” I wish I was here a year ago to tell to that.
@carsenrichards82056 ай бұрын
@@overlandbyday1130compared to most finished up overland rigs this is considered barebones. Missing bumpers, winch, regear, bigger tires, beadlocks, more skids, extra lights. Most trucks, especially Toyotas, will end up with a lift, wheels and tires. Sliders and lockers are the only off-road specific mods this truck has that sets it apart from any other I see multiple of daily. Not to mention it looks like he’s on 20’s and the “lift” is more like a level. No cosmetic mods, limited suspension mods, limited performance mods. Sounds pretty stock to me.
@Trd20205 ай бұрын
@@carsenrichards8205all the bs you mentioned is not really needed for most off roaders. Most people who have them don’t even use them. He is more than equipped for off road
@carsenrichards82054 ай бұрын
@@Trd2020 This isn’t about what’s needed or what other people do or don’t use. I never said he wasn’t equipped for off-roading. Most vehicles nowadays are capable enough right off the lot. That doesn’t change the fact that he is nearly stock and has hardly touched the surface in potential off-road modifications. A raptor comes off the lot with over half the mods I listed and technically still “stock”

I feel like any vehicle bigger than a first gen tundra is too big for rock crawling/serious 4x4 trails. But you’re a legend for doing this!

Your truck looks and works great in the rocks! The next mod might just be new bumpers to help the approach and departure angles?
@beehivetundra2 жыл бұрын
Yeah the bumpers are next for sure. I had originally intended to already have bumpers for this trip but the month leading up to this I ran out of time to fab some so I ran the stock ones and sure enough they got in the way pretty bad.

What tire size, rims, and lift are you using? Obviously they're 37-in Cooper STT Pro but what about the rest? And did you regear vy chance, if so what is the gear ratio now? 🤔
@beehivetundra Жыл бұрын
They’re 37x12.5x20 and the wheels are 20x9 KMC Mesa 544’s. I’m regeared to 5.29’s with a rear Eaton locker
@oversizedoverlanding23652 жыл бұрын
awesome video dude thanks for sharing. since you installed the eaton locker have you experienced any disengagement while shifting to reverse? supposedly this locker does this which seems like it could be an annoyance.
@beehivetundra2 жыл бұрын
None that I noticed. And I did have to back up and reposition and number of times on the trail and never experienced any loss of traction or disengagement. While it could have happened, it wasn’t disengaged long enough to notice or be an issue.

Whatcha supposed to do if you break something out there like ur rear diff or bust a while in your Trans?
@beehivetundra Жыл бұрын
I’ve got skid plates protecting the oil pan, transfer case and transmission, so busting a hole in that is very unlikely. But if it did happen then I’ll just have to get towed out. If I destroy a rear differential I can still drive out in 4x4 using just the front differential, this already to me once before with my 4Runner and that’s how I got home. Other than that, I carry spare CV axles since those are more likely to break.
