No other band could deliver such an amazing performance in the 90's. This is the pinacle of psychedelia, heavy metal, jam session, alternative rock and everything that the mainstream were most affraid of, delivered with rawness and precision. That's why this band is my favorite band for 22 years and counting. Thank you Alt Copperpot5 for the amazing work you've been doing. It is very important for the history of music.

I love the Pumpkins but there were so many great bands and Billy is definitely not the best vocalist out there so I don’t think they were necessary the greatest band.
@medievaltimes64734 жыл бұрын
Really? No other band? This is not even close to their best performance. As far as "mainstream" being afraid...sorry, but when your album sells 5 million copies, you become mainstream whether you like it or not.

@@karinaf8326 as far as a unique voice with incredible emotional range Billy was hard to match. The interesting thing is he only had this ability for a number of years. He can't sing even close to this level these days

Very good....I didn't realize James played so many leads. He said in an interview that he and Billy were "about 50/50" with the leads on Mellon Collie, but I really didn't believe it....until now. He's not as fast as Billy, but he's damn good with what he does.
@aegisreflector1239 Жыл бұрын
James is underrated. Iv closely analysed many pumpkins shows, like you said he isn't as fast as billy but he's just as if not more melodic. Hes also really good at lead lines, effects and textures.
@heatmoon Жыл бұрын
@@aegisreflector1239He is. His playing is so different than Billy's, he's much more mechanical but I believe helps hold the songs together live. He doesn't miss his parts by even a fraction. And the sound of a Les Paul is really quite pumpkins, if you wanted to capture the Pumpkins distorted song you'd just buy a 2 humbucker whatever. Because essentially Billy plays a strat with 3 humbuckers.
@grizzlywhisker Жыл бұрын
This is really an amazing show, peak Smashing Pumpkins in my opinion. All 4 of the original band members and only their 3 best albums of songs to pull from. I love how they arranged the setlist to start with the acoustic stuff while sort of easing their way into some of the guitar shredding heavy songs, then they sort of pull back to some softer songs again before going into more heavy tracks. It just makes for a great show.

I was there during my year as an Au Pair in Palo Alto. Stood in line for the tickets at the Shoreline Amphitheatre for an hour or so. Forgot my ID to the show (personalized tickets) but still managed to get in. The setup was unexpected but really fantastic. One of the best shows I ever saw. Bought myself the Zero longsleeve at the show and wore it proudly for a long time. So sad it went downhill from there. I was shocked to see what happened to Jimmy and Melvoin in NYC that summer and it broke my heart to see him kicked out. I liked Adore and Machina alright but somehow the records after Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness were much "colder" - kind of like a mirror to the atmosphere in the band, I guess.

Bought tickets at The Fillmore day of show as they were not available Ticketmaster. The art on the ticket was sweet. Jimmy was an animal, the next time they came to SF he was kicked out of the band and Matt Walker played with them at the Cow Palace.
