I met Glynis Johnson in 1977 when she walked into my record store. We became good friends and she moved in with me after college. I played bass and she picked it up and fell in love. She moved to Portland in 79, then back to Chicago and played bass for Friends of Betty/Red Red Meat. The last time I got to see her was when Friends of Betty backed up Hawkwind in Chicago before she passed away. She was a real sweetheart, kind hearted, and I miss her more than words can say. RIP honey....I will always love you

Here's a name you cannot forget Her name is Glynis, yes And with these tears of respect Conforms a sadness For anyone who's ever lost One who's dearest, and the love of a friend On our worried knees Given to all beliefs Scarecrows and disease haunt us all Ooh, bury your heads in the sand Ooh, bury your heads So have we stumbled from grace Are we being punished for fate My god is subtle and great He can't be wounded By the gossip and the hate of the frightened Who took their paths on the sand, yeah Fear that grips us all Gives us an awful sound Can't help anything but ourselves Ooh, bury your head in the sand Ooh, bury your head, yeah Ooh, bury your head Ooh, I believe in one love Ooh, I believe in one love Ooh, I believe in one love Yeah, yeah

What's the meaning behind these lyrics ? I think I hate it and I'd like to read the opinion of others.
@locatolaka4 ай бұрын
@@analoglee supposedly it's about Glynis Johnson, a Chicago based musician whom he had met and died of AIDS. I believe it's got something to do with fear of HIV and people "burying their heads in the sand" instead of educating themselves or understanding a disease beyond their prejudices.

The Smashing Pumpkins were the soundtrack to my life through the 90s. I was 20 when Gish came out in '91, and had my mind blown. From that moment i had to have everything they produced. This particular song, from the NoAlternative album, reminds me of a very specific time when i first moved to London and i had no job, no money and no direction. I remember playing this song endlessly on my CD walkman as I trudged around looking for work because it filled me with hope, optimism and the dreams of getting my life on track.

So many early 90s nights sitting around the bong with friends listening to the grunge of the era -- cool stuff but let's face it, there was a lot of droning sameness. This CD was in the mix for a while, and a signal came out of the static. This song, man.
