Agreed! It was SO short lived, but those 5-10(at max) years were the best ever. So much cool stuff at once. Smashing Pumpkins, NIN, Radiohead, Tori Amos, Björk, Fiona Apple, Alice In Chains, Soundgarden... so much to choose from and so different. All magnificent.

Cant disagree on that. I was more into metal and hardcore in the early 90s. I was introduced to smashing by my girlfriend when we started to fuck in her room. I was 16, she 15. She played IT loud so her parents wouldnt hear anything. lol. Im almost in tears listening to this song. The memories of youth. lol

a decade before shoegaze, BIlly Corgan and the Pumpkins where smack-dab in the middle of the grunge era and he found/created his own sound with that psychedelic warm full-on fuzz groove. Also some amazing videos back when MTV still had some clout as a platform for artistic expression. Gish & Siamese Dream are classics from front to back.

Dechral I’d say the same with Mellon Collie, except I don’t like Tales From a Scorched Earth and Cupid de Locke. Not bad for a 30 song album (I say 30 because the vinyl is significantly better than the LP with its track list and the extra 2 songs)
@soberdave

What?! Shoegaze started in the 1980s and ran parallel with grunge into the early 90s and Corgan not only cited My Bloody Valentine as an influence they also toured with Swervedriver in 1993

Great reaction! I love seeing someone smile at all the bits of a song that make me react the same way. Siamese Dream is one hell of an album, definitely recommend reacting to any other song from it. You'd probably like a lot of songs on Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness too. My favourite is Porcelina of the Vast Oceans. 9 incredibly rewarding minutes.

I grew up with grunge. It was such a great time to be a young in the mid 90's. I started playing music because of bands like this one My influence came from Pumpkins, Primus, Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, Melvins, Faith No More, then of course the classics. I miss the 90's.

I was in High School when this came out, and my friends and I knew this was amazing even then. The funny short screech breaks are due to bad pickups on a guitar during recording, but sounded great so they kept them in the recording. So glad youger generations try the 90's alt music out. Have you heard Sigur ros. If you like Billy’s high voice singing you’ll love jonsi. Sigur ros music I’ve heard is a mix of ambient music/ very modern classical experimental/ some elements of showgaze/post rock. Sigur ros albums I recommend are Takk, and Ageatis bydrum and ( ). Very beautiful music. I haven’t found a artist that’s similar to their music. Other artist/album worth mentioning is Bjork her album Post.

@SuperSaiyanScandinavian
@SuperSaiyanScandinavian 4 жыл бұрын
straight up. siamese dream wouldn't exist without loveless. not to take away from billy's talent cuz the two are still very different in many ways, but their sound changed quite a bit after gish and that was because of kevin shields. i suppose mellon collie kinda broke away from the shoegazey big muff guitar sound, but billy still held on to the dreamy vocal style that he hadn't really done on gish.
@kyloren7070
@kyloren7070 4 жыл бұрын
@@SuperSaiyanScandinavian Billy Corgan was listening to my bloody Valentine and everything from Jimi Hendrix to Echo & the Bunnymen please don't make such a big deal! Your giving too much credit! Also your comment makes no sense because he was listening to "My Bloody Valentine" before he made "Gish" not after! And Gish sounded nothing Like MBV Except "Daydream" which can be credited as inspired by MBV! That much is true, but don't go and say that "Siamese Dream" which is a complete Masterpiece by any critics standards and has been rated this much... which came after Gish was inspired by Kevin Shields makes no sense that way! Anyway Kevin wishes his band could Plateau like the pumpkins did, but they didn't! My Bloody Valentine made great songs and their good...but Billy Corgan is a musical genius "Literally" not just as a generic compliment! He actually is! When he was a kid he scored the highest in history (at the time) in a musical aptitude test for the whole state of Illinois! The state of Illinois has over three times the population of Ireland!😉😂 but I will say this again "Daydream"

You should react to or jam to Everything ruined by Faith No More. I love that song. Or kindergarden by them. Faith no more very influential to a lot of bands like korn, Deftones, slipknot. Well the singers stated being influenced by mike Patton.(singer FNM) also Deftones and korn have songs that use Familar lyrics or guitar riffs of some songs from Angel Dust album. Angel dust itself is worth the listen. It slowly burned into me because my music taste wasn’t as wide as it was when I first heard that album. But man songs like Everything ruined you can appreciate the bass guitar and the drum beats. Mikes vocals are amazing and catchy.
