OMFG Siamese Dream was the soundtrack of my high school life. And the songs and lyrics pretty much sum up my high school life. Mayonaise was probably my favorite. Back in the day, Corgan said about naming songs "say you have a song about a chandelier, it gives off a reddish light that reminds you of the colour you dont wear around bulls, so you name the song "Cow".
@crafty1096

The song title is “Mayonaise.” It has one “N” on purpose That is to make it man-aise. Just like when you are sick and feel bad the term is called “Malaise.” It’s also title this because Billy Corgan the lead singer was looking into his refrigerator and saw mayonnaise, and thought about the mnemonic“My Own Eyes.” So the title has a duel meaning. Billy Corgan has famously stated that he wrote “A lot of BS lines together.” This song was supposed to be random lines that Corgan liked independent of each other and threw together. Corgan stated though there was an actual subconscious meaning that he didn’t realize. Love with MoM and a certain girl who he flirted back and forth with but it never blossomed. He’s trying to be himself and independent, yet realizes that’s why love never bloomed with his Mom and a girl from his past the way he wanted it to because of being closed off.

Great reaction, as always. Billy Corgan is one of the most underrated guitar players of his generation. Literally nothing he can’t do on it, usually plays most of the instruments on the studio albums also. Check out their live show they did at The Metro, a venue in Chicago they played a lot before they got big. Went back in 1993 (I think) to put on a live show when they were blowing up. One of the best shows I have ever seen. Soma, Rocket, and Starla are some I would particularly check out. It’ll blow your minds. Props to both of you for raising bucks for the hurricane victims. You two have good souls. Oh, when are you doing Floyd’s The Wall live listen? Keep up the excellent work.

Smashing Pumpkins are a band whose music isn't always easy to pin down as one particular genre. You said you thought that they put out loud music and there is definitely plenty of that with some songs that are essentially metal songs but they've always mixed it up with gentler songs and Billy's voice, which can sounds harsh and puts a lot of people off, is also capable of that dreamy sound that you identified in this. There is actually a semi-acoustic version of Mayonaise which is what he recorded the lyrics to that were then mixed in with the heavier guitars to give the album version of Mayonaise that quality. Check out 'Obscured' from their Pisces Iscariot album. You won't regret it.

Wow Wow! Good job, a reaction just in time, only like 25 years after it comes out.

Also, regarding the song title, Billy Corgan did an interview before this album came out and he was asked why the song Rhinoceros was called Rhinoceros. This was Billy Corgan’s answer: “Okay, I’ll tell you the process I use for naming my songs. Say you’re gonna write a song about a chandelier. The light gives off the color red. Red reminds you of the color you don’t wear around a bull. So you call the song ‘Cow’.”

Very late to the party and you may already know this but Billy had an insanely rough upbringing. His dad was a hermon addict and his mom abandoned the family. He was brought up in foster care with a very uncaring family so that's why a lot of his pain comes out in his music. Pumpkins are my favorite band and this is my favorite song by them. BTW, love your channel!❤

I was 21 when this album was released and have listened to this song at least once a month since then. It got me through many dark times and I feel if it wasn't for this song I wouldn't be here. One of the best songs of my life.

This is one of the 2 or 3 songs I ever liked by Smashing Pumpkins. The fact that it's sort of Shoegaze-y helps a lot.
