I think people go to a pumpkins concert for different reasons than they did in 1996. In general adults who love the pumpkins and have loved them since they were kids aren't there because "despite all my rage I'm still just a rat in a cage." Time changes people. We're more in a "believe in me as I believe in you" mood these days, and that mood doesn't really require a mosh pit. Nor do the happy, uplifting but occasionally dimir songs on Oceania.

Not sure if the energy level has something to do with the age of the crowd. Im 30 years old and felt like I was at the younger end of the audience. For some reason the pumpkins don't seem to appeal as much to the younger generation today. I have attended concerts for both of the tours in the last 3 years and the reaction is always similar.
