Wow. Is that Billy's voice? He sounds like he's trying to sound like the singer of The Church, which sounds awesome. In fact, this is a very Churchy song. It's really just very 80's post-punk. Love it.

i saw a video of them playing this in 1988 2 weeks after chamberlin joined. would strongly recommend watching that. seriously cool stuff to see young smashing pumpkins

Interesting to hear this because it is them almost trying to fit into the sound of the time late 80s but you can hear the start of the real pumpkins in there. No wonder albums like adore came later. They are so prolific

+Isaac Hunt I can't blame him for not being as big of a fan. I'm a huge SP fan, but Billy's voice doesn't really blend as well in a lot of their songs. It blends well here, and it's really nice in all of Adore, but it sounds awful with most of their grungy songs

Yeah, during 90's it was really all about music. Which hasn't been the case in long time. When listening Pumpkins, Nirvana, Pearl Jam (just name few) you can really heart the emetion in songs these bands wrote and raw energy and power they had.

@nicholsjoshua15 I'm pretty sure this is actually Jimmy. Look up the video for My Eternity. You have to keep in mind at this point Jimmy was still finding his comfort zone in this style of music. He had worked in Jazz, Polka, and Rock styles before, but this Alt/Gothic Rock stuff was new to him. On top of that, a lot of what Billy was doing at this point was inspired by the Cure, who had very simple drumming. It's not unlikely that Jimmy used that as a sign of what he should aim for here.

One of my favorites. This is a old old "unreleased" song from the mid 80's this was just before the Pumpkins had a drummer. You're actually hearing a drum machine instead of Jimmy Chamberland.

I would consider myself fairly versed in the Smashing Pumpkin's discography, but I've never heard this song before. It sounds great, the vocals and instrumentals complement each other so well.

It's one of my favorite also. Has a great euro, 80's, indie sound to it. I think one of the most likable rare unique tracks they have produced and this was before they even had a drummer. The drums you hear are from a drumming machine.
