On the Brightside they're just the publisher not the devs or developer company, so any game they currently publish that people like (even though some people will lie about it now, I can already see cult of the lamb fans start to fake being orthodox and call it Pegan) is fine; we need to see what employees say and behave like (not just the discord janny who are all clearly the kind of person who would be a discord janny) and keep this as a red flag. We don't know as bad as we think it is, but if we find out is they can make new terms in any new contracts; which could give them control on what you can or can't do and what you can say and can't say.

My wife and I saw a snippet of this game's trailer pop up on a KZbin video. We immediately thought of SBI. The hideous art style, clear DEI influence, and overt jank just screamed them. When they don't have a talented (or formerly talented) AAA developer to co-opt and run into the ground, SBI's lack of talent shines all the more brightly. I guess Devolver Digital either needed some ESG money or had one too many bad hires get through HR, thereby opening the floodgates to idiocy. A shame.

Yes the art style is a major tell these days, not just the fact that they keep making women ugly and red flags like that, it seems now they've begun adopting a very specific art style and colour palette and it's setting my pattern recognition off hard. It's a bit weird to explain to somebody who doesn't know colour theory but the SJW artists are clearly being churned out from a factory somewhere into indie games much like with how Ubisoft makes very deliberate HUD choices and they all follow the same pattern. So it seems there's a bunch of them that are creating indie games but they're not really indie and all belong to the same circles which is very sneaky because they're trying to invade the indie spaces.

Yup, everyone called the art in this game for what it is, a more spruced up Corporate Memphis artstyle. I remember people guessing SBI involvement at the time of the trailer. Bright contrasting colors, weird body proportions, low detail and an uncanny insertion of every possible skin tone that makes it hard not to notice for lack of any other defining features. Everything about the style is artificial corpo-slop and made to satisfy the HR department.

The problem is that its a death sentence for the game, but having a company like Sweet Baby involved in the game creation gains interest from some ESG obsessed financial services corporations so it often can keep the game developer gaining money through loans or grants until after the game fails completely. And a company like Devolver doesn't actually make all the games they "produce". They do create some games, but they also contract out services to help distribute and market games they haven't actually worked on and I suspect that happened here. Crush House was not programmed by Devolver. Devolver just accepted money to help get the game out to the public. Not a great idea due to the Sweet Baby connection which will hurt them badly for a long time, but they might not have known about the full connection until after they signed the contract.

I know you're not supposed to judge books by the cover, but I'd by lying if I said this game's art style wasn't a red flag. There's a visual language that many of these woke games seem to use now. Perhaps an overuse of bright primary and pastel colors, lot's of purple and magenta hues. I can't quite put my finger on it. It's like the visual equivalent of child-proofing. Every rough surface is smoothed, every corner is rounded. Nothing is allowed to look "unsafe", even in cases where the game's themes suggest unsafety. Sweet Baby Inc's own branding is a pretty good example of what I mean. And their website design. I think it's probably all an extension of the "safe edgy" concept. Obviously this isn't always the case, but it's frequent enough at this point that whenever I see this sort of visual design used it immediately puts me on the lookout for other "signs". They've basically burned the color purple at this point lol.

I know "dont judge a book by its cover" is the saying, but part of the reason the cover exists it to represent the book. Cover art and such is literally made so that you can judge if the book looks interesting to you. You should in fact judge a book by its cover. Same goes for game and movie trailers. People will say to wait and play the game instead of watching and judging the trailers. But the whole reason trailers exist is for the audience to judge them. That is literally the point of them.
