Yep this and the RZ34 are super easy to work on and upgrade with lots of great proven aftermarket companies providing parts (not ebay parts). Folks get too wrapped around the axle about stock reviews, a few upgrades and a weekend in the garage turn these cars into beasts! If the OEMs were to make cars like these they would cost way too much and they would be too "harsh" for most folks.

Appreciate the straight-forward facts about tuning and warranty, as well as Cobb's choice to comply with EPA standards to stay in business. I installed a Big SF intake and accessport 2 months into ownership of a new '21 limited. Catalytic converter took a dump at about 6k, and was denied warranty coverage due to the altered ECU code. I'm glad you confirmed reflashing to factory before bringing it to the dealer wouldn't have made any difference. Now the vin has been flagged by Subaru, so I doubt any dealer would be reimbursed by SOA if they submit a claim. I brought the car to Stage 2+ (all Cobb, + Nameless bpv) this summer, and it ran really well on the Cobb Stage 2+ map until I could get it in for dyno tune. The power/torque gains are impressive, but was so unimpressed with the factory headers that I went and ordered/installed a Grimmspeed equal length headers, and found the remnants of burned out cat fragments in the mid-pipe. Ordering a new cat in a few weeks, and then re-tune for that and the headers, which I'm told isn't necessary, but figure why not? Headers are what I'd be looking at next on your build path, maybe ETS, but not seeing a ton of options for the FA24 currently. The power/torque gains for my FA20 are almost as significant as the move to Stage 2, and doing both at the same time plus turbo blanket while it's all apart, probably not a bad idea depending on budget. I guess I understand Subaru's position on modding, but as you mention, anyone who drives a stock VA or VB, and then tries one at Stage 2 is going to see way more of the car's potential unlocked, and for me it's been worth the gamble on voiding the warranty (even with having to eat a $1700 replacement cat).

That's a pretty slick way to connect the charge pipe together. Next best thing to a wiggins style clamp Also some manufacturers, like the Focus ST have counter for the number of times the car has been cranked, and they can use that to identify whether it's been flashed or not because it will reset that counter.

I agree with you Tanner, I wasn't really a believer at first but this car has been growing on me watching your videos and others. You perfected the OEM+ look, wheels look good. Once you get the paint matched wheel arches (whatever they're called) thing will be minty. Stock rear end is super ugly but yours is super clean without doing too much

2023 with cobb stage 2 and the dealership at 1,850 replaced everything with warranty. Cobb isn't pushing the car to die.. It's much faster with the AC Port and tune but it's well in safe parameters

Lovely jubbly! Unfortunately we're very restricted here in Japan. COBB have no plans on making their AP work on JDM models. The JB4 will work but it can't remove the 112mph speed restrictor in the ECU. Which is all moot for me anyway as my car is the CVT model (the top-trim model here comes only in that version), so WHP/torque can't really go higher than 300 and even with that I'd be a bit nervous. Having said all that, more power here (given the types of road we have in abundance, cornering paradise) would be superfluous. I've optioned all the handling goodies and have a set of Rays on order too, I think it's all going to be a lot more fun than the Honda CRV I currently have. Maybe even as much fun as my KTM SDR Evo. :D

Subaru voided my warranty for rtv issue since I had a Cobb tune 😭…so I had to sell my car and get a grc 🥲…my last 2 cars were Rex’s…i had aos installed, fortune 500 coil overs, processwest intercooler, hawk brakes, Cobb intake and a protune from panda Motorworks…i felt really sad when I traded it…but I also feel happy that I got the grc.

People love to shit on Cobb and the OTS tunes, but I think when done right (e.g. when paired with the rest of the Cobb kit, stages, whatever you want to call them), these tunes are reliable, and Cobb has obviously optimized their tune to their parts. If you're mixing parts from Perrin, ETS, Cobb, etc. then you probably want to have a custom tune done, but I think for $2k, you can't really do a whole lot better than this. Love what you're doing with the build, man. Let us know how it goes with long-term reliability on the kit.

I mean I wouldn’t call it minimal a new intercooler and retune should put you at 350-360whp without even a really aggressive tune. The intercooler on my Sti was pretty large stock but when I changed my turbo inlet , top mount and retuned it made an additional 36 whp at the same boost psi.

It seems with light mods, it takes virtually no effort to make 300whp after a tune, pretty wild. The fa24 would probably sit comfortably at 360-380whp with a bigger turbo.

You can get 300whp with zero mods, just add 3 gallons of E85 and it will do it. This new ECU can correct 50% both ways on fueling. That's wayyyy better than any ECU Subaru has ever had.

Speaking about the EPA was a few shops that would work on diesel trucks removing the DEF from them for more power and to "roll coal" think it's 3 or 4 shop's are now shut down and are now facing heavy fines not heavy like a 100k heavy fine it's more like millions of dollars in fines. So yes it sucks but I would rather have the option from Cobb then no options at all.

@bryanribey it still has it. The unequal length headers on the ej's help to make the rumble more pronounced but it's not where the rumble comes from. You can definitely still hear the rumble on the vb though. Personally I think the vb sounds a little better. Don't get me wrong though, I love the ej's too but the fa24 is superior. I was about to buy the 21 sti but chose the vb instead and I don't regret it at all.

@bryanribey yes, I explained that the ej's have un equal length headers. I understand the vb doesn't. I've had ej's and now a vb. Pretty sure I know what the rumble sounds like.. Like I said once again, it isn't as pronounced but the rumble is from the motor and not the headers. The unequal length headers just make it louder. I didn't believe myself and thought I just wanted to hear it but I've asked several other people and they hear it too. The rumble and gurgling is definitely still there.

Where I live we have no emmision testing or anything like that so it's fairly free game here. But figured doing this to be emmisins complaint gives everyone the opportunity to build a similar car and see the results if they chose to 🙌 DUDE those electric cars catching on fire is wild. They actually tell emergency responders to just let em burn 😂

Yeah im happy with my Real 1999 Impreza WRX Almost 1000lbs lighter and no OBDII Bullcrap (i can remove my cat converter (99 only has 1 cat) and not even throw a code. I can fit 3" TBE without a tune needed (but would help), I can run a BOV/BPV Hybrid with ZERO Change in how it runs and Never runs Rich.

@@OregonAR15 Nope.. Australia & New Zealand & South Africa did not implement OBDII until 2002-2004 on most cars some even 2005. All Cars in Australia but 1 Volvo Pre 2000 are OB1 (tho most are proprietary Manufacturer Software but using an OBDII Shaped port) Like on my 2000 model WRX you CANNOT use an OBDII scan tool it will actually damage the ECU as different wiring and voltages, You MUST use the Subaru specific Taxtrix Cable to connect to ECU, Even then the ECU cannot just be flashed like a normal ECU, like you cannot use Cobb AP on a 1994-2000 WRX ONLY on the USA non WRX version. To read codes there is no tool, You connect wires under dash and read the check engine light Morse code flashing patterns.

@@OregonAR15 Also, 1 x Cat, 1 x 02 sensor, No AVCS, No Airpump, Charcoal Canister was not fitted on some models, Tuned to run on 100 Octane RON (Japanese Fuel) So its lucky AUS has 98 RON

Wow night and day!.... until it blows up. Good luck. These cars do not adequately handle stage 2 mods without engine upgrades. Oil simply doesn't adequately make it out to the end of the cylinders, which are designed with less precise tolerances than you'd expect from a performance brand to account for thermal expansion, as nothing is forged in there.

I’m still hoping they drop stuff for the 2022 outback wilderness I emailed them a while ago they said they were working on it but so far no release for what I see. But definitely gotta get a Dino to get numbers to see the difference
