TBH I don't think that this is much of a surprise to a lot of people. After the 6-month review video, some people caught my drift that I was looking at selling the 2023 Subaru WRX. It's a fun car and I stand by the fact I think that it is a fantastic daily driver for someone who wants easy power for cheap. But my heart is not in the FA-style engines.

@@Smeedia QUESTION: if a piggyback controller for supplemental port injection and ECU hack for averting the rev limit were available, would you have been more interested to pursue mods? Please comment in more detail about what’s really driving your decision. Many people are interested in the VB and could possibly be a significant driver of new subscribers and viewers to your channel (count me as one of those). But the current limitations are somewhat disheartening? Note, I am only 6 minutes into the video. Will circle back if needed after finishing the video. My thoughts: ostensibly the chassis is much more stiff on VB (with the 2024 model fixing the flex in the chassis at the rear sway bar mounts). I have to admit I absolutely hate the infotainment crap on modern vehicles, but other than that and the limitations on engine mods, I prefer the styling on the VB although the rear needs major surgery IMO. EDIT: I finished the video. I have this sneaking suspicion that my recent comments on your other videos influenced you. Or maybe we just think alike. Yeah I just do not think most people are willing to spend 20 - 25k to make this into a baby Porsche and especially given the crappy styling of the rear. If someone can figure out a piggyback for more economical port injection and some better styling mods for the rear, then maybe it will be worth it to go to the next level that you describe at the end of the video. Which is essentially what I’m waiting for, otherwise I will not pursue the platform. I just can’t tolerate that rear as is. Seems some guys convince themselves it doesn’t look too bad, because they do not need to look at it while they are driving. And the VB makes financial sense at the 360 HP level. But we need more for this platform! Agreed?

Hey Tanner. I’ve been watching your channel for several years now back since before you started YouTubing full time with your older BRZ and you were doing how to videos in your STI when it was being made to be FBO. I’ve really enjoyed watching you and your channel grow, you’ve worked really hard and took a lot of career risks to make this happen you absolutely deserve all of the success you’re getting from it and the avenues it’s opening for you with experimenting with different cars. I just wanted to give my own personal opinion to how your channel has evolved as it’s grown. One of the biggest things I enjoyed about your channel was seeing the evolution of your cars over time, and how your mods hold up and impact the car as you use them over an extended period of time, and what you do to improve/replace them. Since the real growth of the channel, the cars seem to be a revolving door except for Blue, and I find it hard to watch the videos for these other cars with the same intent and care because I know that sometime likely very soon that car will be swapped out. I fully understand why you have started doing this, I do not fault you in the slightest. You need to keep new and interesting content, and you expand your own personal knowledge with each car you own and modify. I just wanted to throw out the opinion of someone who has followed you for a long time now and maybe has a different preference in your content than others. Nonetheless, I am still a big supporter, and only look forward to seeing you grow even more and what you will do down the road. Keep up the awesome work! Things will only get even bigger and better from here!

I 100% get where you’re coming from, blue, the RX7 & the 07 are permeant cars for me so those 3 won’t be going anywhere. With the VB I never did plan on keeping it. I anted to give the VB a chance since I was so against it from coming out. Some things are changing and I’m trying to get away from building car after car after car. The car we picked up I don’t even plan on really doing anything to aside from just enjoying it and maybe making it look a bit better. But that’s also the hard thing with YT like you said, if things aren’t consistently changing then some things go in then out. But have some things currently in works.

Selling cars is fine, but I'd say don't tell us or give us hints that you're going to sell it until you do sell it and always replace it with something more interesting, so that we can at least have the illusion of getting attached to the cars and then be excited when you buy something cooler. bummer, but hey to each their own. i had been car searching for months. but the one that always stood out to me was the wrx. there was something about it that no other car could fill the place that the wrx could. you bought one of these and all the conversations i had with others about how i should go about buying a wrx, they were all telling me to go with a new one. i read so many horror stories of getting a used wrx that had been ridden hard and gave out after only a few months. i needed a new and reliable daily. i couldn't spend heaps of money if a used died on me. i test drove dozens of wrx. lot's of 4th gen but some 3rd gen and 5th gen too. i went with the vb. even tho the 3rd gen was the style i was into the most i knew it would be smarter in the long run to go with a new one, even if i had another preference. i got myself my own vb and joined the wrx fam. the car strikes a smile onto my face every time i see it. i am super guilty of buyers remorse. majority of the time i regret most purchases. however this was among one of the first times in my life purchasing something and not having a regret. the car and i chose each other. it filled me with delight that i was this cars first owner. i treat her very well and in turn she does the same. it was so fun watching you build your vb and gave me dreams of what i'll do to mine one day. thank you for being a factor in helping me choose to join you in the wrx family!

Glad that I could help and very glad to had that you’ve been enjoying it! They really are good cars and I liked the VBs a lot. But for me at least I ended up with buyers remorse. Could have been from buying a lower trim level when I wanted a limited. But the car just left me wanting more even though it was making great power. I think the VBs have their place in todays car market and they fill that role very well for an affordable, manual, turbo AWD car that really no other manufacturers make anymore

@@Smeedia and for these reasons that both of you stated for why the VB is compelling for many people, we need more for the VB platform, to take them to the next level as owners get bored with ~360 HP. How much money do you think I have lol For a STI driveline swap, ETS Turbo were already looking at roughly $13,000. Then for a built engine to actually handle the power we would need another $7500 minimum spent on a built block. But to fully utilize everything we would need a proper port injection fuel system. So there’s another $4500ish + $1400 manifold. But to use that we would need a $8,000 motec. For me it’s just not a car worth spending that money on

@@Smeedia I think it could have been done at a fraction of the cost. Sti driveline 3-4k, big turbo 3-4k, there is other options that can be made to fit and with a full e85 easily made huge power stock block my tuner is making well into the 700’s. It’s too late now, but would have been cool.

I’ve worked in Toyota and Ford used car departments. If it’s going back to Subaru they’ll probably want to certify it. Not sure how strict they are but Toyota was hands down no modifications at all while I was there. The AOS would have had to go even if it meant replacing that oem line. Even aftermarket drop in filters were replaced for oem ones. Ford was a little more lax but still I think something like the AOS would have had to be removed. Certified cars are supposed to be as close to brand new as possible for the warranty. TLDR; definitely may as well remove everything. Lol

@@xtrekrex what years? The hatch? I do like the older such as vintage bugeye and I also like the older hatch, but my issue with the more recent 4-door sedan look of the STi in the non-hatch form, is that the rear of it looks like any other Japanese 4-door sedan more or less. The front is sporty and desirable. Rear does not have distinctive sports styling to set it apart from a 4-door sedan to induce me desire it. I can not envision doing much to the rear of an STi to change that without radical sheet metal surgery which I would not want to do. Whereas the rear of VB I can already visualize the NBR Challenge wide body added over the extant sheet metal coupled with a redesign of the rear tail lights, ABS plastic bumper cover and (illegal) removal of the bumper brace to slim down the rear diaper. I guess I have very high expectations. Most guys seem to settle on something that looks like 40,000+ other vehicles on the road with just a few minor styling differences to IMO not really set them apart but they may convince themselves otherwise. I do not like lying to myself about my accomplishments or lack thereof. And ostensibly they do not want to modify the vehicle styling too much for reasons of resale value and also drawing too much attention to themselves (police or just not wanting to be egotistical). Within reason, I prefer to do what I like, and what makes me smile. A rebel spirit I guess.

Good choice on the STI, Smedia was spot on that the older chassis felt better because they had hydraulic steering, front LSD, center DCCD diff, and rear LSD. New WRX makes for a great daily driver, Subaru engineer event explained why that it's the first WRX built on SUV platform using the Forester and Crosstrek chassis, so very comfortable and quiet like a SUV, downside is handling isnt good since it uses the SUV's electric power steering and electronic brake vectoring with no LSD at all in front or rear.

I sold mine too. I think it is technically speaking, the best WRX yet, but it just didn't excite me and if it isn't exciting, what's the point like you said. The looks of it are just ok. Not as good as the VA in that department. I think I am going to stick to RWD. I'm just realizing that I am a RWD kind of guy over the years of many cars. AWD is better for certain times of the year obviously so looks like I am going to have to have two cars but this VB is just not it for me. I hated the driving position in it too. QUESTION: if a piggyback controller for supplemental port injection and ECU hack for averting the rev limit were available, would you have been more interested to pursue mods? Agreed?

This is very sad indeed 🙁. . . The VB got me into your channel and have enjoyed watching you work on other cars as well. I love my VB and work I have put into it so far, like you said a good daily and great gains with minimal mods. I am personally struggling with a VB decision to keep it as a daily with minimal mods, but I want to make a solid build with STi trans swap etc... basically everything I want to do will be about another $20k on what I have already done. Total $$$ in the car, including car, would then be around $70k... is it really worth it when I am probably going to break stuff and keep modding anyways.

I didn’t like the VB as much as the VA but it kinda grew on me. I think you are doing great and expanding in growth while I assume chasing dreams/knocking down that bucket list but all that being said I do question your reasons for disliking the fa platform.. reason being, anyone else who builds Subarus/hondas/evos etc. and love all 3 still joke about the failure rate of the ej. The ej is kinda ass and proven to to be unreliable and a ticking bomb..20 years of a failed platform. I feel as tho most of the people who knock the fa platform knock it out of refusing to learn something new. I don’t own the fa24 but there have been enough videos to support the fact that it is pretty close in power to the ej with equal potential for gains… the price difference between an sti to a wrx essentially pays for the drivetrain swap and both engine typically fail around the same power point or potentially higher for the VB as it is beefed up from the fa20… I guess I don’t understand why you have this weird thing for the ej… how many cylinder 4/blown head gasket issues until you’re like.. “this thing is garbage and should have definitely been fixed throughout it lifespan”? Anyways I wish you the best and this isn’t meant as hate I just want to understand.
@Smeedia
@Smeedia 8 ай бұрын
Performance and reliability and mecanical things aside. The EJ feels like it has soul to it. It puts a smile on my face and it’s a blast to drive. The FAs have always left me wanting more, felt soulless. Kinda like Suuuuper bland mashed potatoes. I don’t hate the FAs engines but they’re not for me. Sub 450who the FAs engines are fantastic, more efficient and more responsive engines than EJs that’s just facts. But the overall driving experience from an FA is just kinda numb imo. I’ve had 3 VA WRxs and the two VBs and no matter how many times I get them I always end up selling them again. I got the blue VB to give the Fa24 a chance and to experience what all they hype was about. I will admit that I was wrong about the Fa24 and it did surprise me with how well it did. But it just never did it for me. Always felt like it never satisfied that itch
