@2bcort4 күн бұрын
@smeedia Never have a seen a Hyd lock on a engine like this. At this RPM an injector running 100% wide open at best would make the engine lean over and foul plugs. This screams a lean scenario and melting a piston or worse detonation in a cylinder and bend / snap a rod. If the sensor was seeing 10psi and you were putting 40psi in it, then I could see this failing for sure. I would hope that safety's as far as Lean , over boost, knock is set up.. Keep up the good work and a same to rebuilt it and look forward to the tear down to see what happened

@@2bcortthe car was prob around 30 PSI actual, I’d assuming fueling went from trying to maintain at 30 PSI to trying to dump it in. I’ll be testing it down soon so we going to see what’s in it 😅
@2bcort4 күн бұрын
@ If you look at the log. At that rpm and load the injectors would be over 80% duty. Even if an additional 20% went it. It would not hyd a motor. I would love to see the trend on the AFR at that point
@dash-four-4 күн бұрын
@@2bcort It sounds wrong to me too. Maybe you can tell me, because I couldn't find this out by reading the Cobb page for this sensor or their install instructions - doesn't this sensor run on 5 volts like AEM and most other sensors do? If 4.5 volts is 60 psi and the slope is 15 psi per volt, it would have to be putting out about 10 volts to make the ecu think 142 psi. If it's only supplied with 5 volts to begin with, that would be pretty strange. I'd be using an AEM stainless sensor next time, unless there is some kind of interoperability problem with the other stuff on the car.

Blouch works more than ok...Have you had a bad experience with them or something?
@Smeedia4 күн бұрын
The few I’ve had have been lackluster, for the money spent there are more competitive options.

Was that a new map sensor?
@Smeedia3 күн бұрын
Yes it was, brand new out the box. Maybe 80 miles on it

@ has Cobb got back with them on the issue, or is there nothing they can do to insure this doesn’t happen again?

How does the ECU see 142psi of boost on a 4bar sensor? Even if it failed and got stuck at 4.5V, the max the ECU should see is 4bar, or like 43psi of boost. I'd imagine the stock ECU also triggers a fault if it got stuck at 5V, but even if it did not fault and kept extrapolating, that's still not 142 psi Also, is it even possible for an injector to hydro lock an engine? A 2000cc/min injector at 5000rpm can dump 0.4cc of fuel per engine revolution, or 0.8cc per intake stroke, if it stayed on the whole time (I don't think any ECU would actually do this). An EJ25 at 10:1 compression ratio has a compressed volume of 62.5cc. I am assuming most of the excess fuel gets dumped out every exhaust stroke so I don't quite see how it's possible to hydrolock an engine with fuel.

Exceeded past the sensor range, I was curious about this as well and if the sensor “sees” a value outside the Range it can report an irrational reading. It was legit for maybe 1/2 a second for the reading. It definitely showed a fault lol

@@Smeedia The Cobb MAP sensor is a 0.5-4.5V sensor powered by 5V. The sensor should never be able send a signal over 5V, so even if the sensor failed to max voltage, and the ECU took the 4.5 or 5V signal seriously, it should not have been possible for the ECU to think the MAP is at 142 psi. I have not worked with the Subaru ECU, but I just replaced my ECU with a Haltech along with some sensors. Just trying to understand how things fail so I can avoid them. Also I added some comments on the original comment about the possibility of hydro locking. Curious how it would be possible.

@@jimmyc7269I 100% agree with you on the scaling of it, but the log showed 142 PSI, even if the car tried to make that type of boost the map sensor should not have been able to read it. But from what I’ve read you can get erratic readings outside of the scaling range. Tbh I’m not sure how it interprets the signal outside of scaling. If the ECU thinks it’s actually seeing that type of boost it’s going to try and give the fueling it needs to support it, additionally pulling the timing too. ID1700s dumping fuel into the cylinder would be enough to prevent spark. Since the fuel can’t be combusted and it’s just dumping the pressure had to go somewhere.

@@Smeedia I can see if the fuel did not get exhausted and pooled in the combustion chamber, it would not take long to accumulate enough for it to be a problem. I guess I am just going to set a Level 3 DTC on my Haltech if it sees anything weird like that on the sensor, and cut injection.

Why does the AME 340 pump need the hooks? Is it model specific?
@Smeedia4 күн бұрын
The hooks are how it locks into place on that style of fuel pump hanger 🫡

Sic! So, my parts are starting to trickle in and I have two questions: is it dumb to do EL headers, downpipe, up-pipe, plugs, iag oil pan kit, and TMIC with a stock turbo? If not dumb, what is the smartest way to install those without pulling the motor? ('13 STI hatch) Like, there's a certain order that would make my life easy, I just don't have the experience yet and want to avoid learning the hard way.

Is cold start rod knock bad? I thought it was just the valves or somethings. Should I be worried about my 315k km 2.5 FXT? It has some clicking when cold starting. I also thought about the possibility that the dampening mount behind the engine to the firewall might be shot and vibrates.

Damn my map sensor went out at wot too luckily nothing happened to the car. It read overboost. Got a new one and it was fine after. Scary stuff That was before the new engine.
@Smeedia4 күн бұрын
Having one fail at redline is definitely not a good time. When they fail when just driving or starting the car it’s normally not a huge issue. We’re swapping to only using AEM sensors now

question, so i got a vf29 from a friend and it makes a whining noise at low rpms and not in boost, i checked the fins everything is solid no shaft play at all and still performs as it should, with that being is that whining noise a sign its starting to fail even tho it runs perfect?
@Smeedia4 күн бұрын
The only time I’ve heard turbos making a whining noise is when the CHRA is on its way out. Some leak a ton of oil, others don’t, some still work, others work less than ideal. Could be something else but that’s what I’ve seen 👀

Could you elaborate why you dont prefere blouche?
@Smeedia4 күн бұрын
Compared to some of the other turbos in the price range you can get a better bang for your buck. His 1.5xtr was also used and had some axial shaft play, plus the green will give him a bit more head room for more power if he wanted it.

This came out flawless, looking for a similar build - Can this be done from full bolts ons, for under $8k?
@codyhendrickson77352 күн бұрын
If your already at full-bolt ons. You're likely already pro-tuned. So the only thing you need at that point if you want to replicate this type of build is have money for the short block and money for labor. Both of these can be achieved with $8k.
