I actually had a concept that could work for versions of past villains if you look back at the origins of smg4 and smg3, it shows that this whole series takes place in a project64 rom that the smgs usbs went into, think of project64 here and how that could work as alternate timelines where certain events have gone differently from their original counterparts.

I do hope that what happened when melony met axol in a afterlife bit does happen but with smg0 giving advice or he helps as a ghost like maybe possess smg4 to talk to the others for a bit to give them advice since he did deal with niles so he got some experience to help as a ghost or maybe can communicate like only melony saw niles it would be like at the start of the movie or near the middle Mario can see smg0 like the ghost of smg0 to help then near the end after all that is done everyone sees him and smg1 and smg2 are shocked after seeing the true smg0 and then he leaves forever into the afterlife to hang out with Fred. (Note:smg0,Fred and spudnick needed more episodes and their my favourite caracters)
