Yu Yu Hakusho stood out from other Shonen by being intimate and close with its characters rather than being overly boisterous which was more common at the time. The way Togashi wrote Yuusuke and his gang captured a certain feeling of helplessness, vulnerability and humanity in teenage characters that no other Shonen has really matched. Very authentic

I always felt like this anime treated the audience like adults. Something Dragonball Z after Freeza arc did not do. Same goes with Yugioh. You didn’t have 1 or 2 main characters and everyone else was sidelined and there to dump exposition. We literally had to wait the entire series to find out about Hiei and Kuramas origins and god was it worth the wait. Amazing character development.

A song that transcends time itself, I once had an older cousin who was like a brother and he loved this anime he was not the smartest and he fought a lot but he was always funny and caring on the inside, he reminded me of yusuke a lot growing up we watched this anime almost everyday after school, he was so cool to me, he developed cancer at age 22 and he wanted one thing, to watch Yu Yu Hakusho with his little 13 year old cousin, he passed and I know it sounds silly but this anime helped me cope and feel like he was still here, I hope he is enjoying his life as a spirit detective thank you Yu Yu Hakusho for helping my cousin live on in my memory, whenever I watch this anime i feel a Smile bomb creeping on my face
