Brings back memories... makes me think of the type of sadness you get when you're thinking about when you grew up and you can feel yourself forgetting it. Everyday you remember less and less.

museick28 Live in the present moment, that I can do. But not look back is a thing I can't. We're all walking backwards into the future. We look at our past as we walk away from it. That's why we can't see the future. I can't help but look back. My memories are irreplaceable, invaluable, incorruptible. And vanishing before my eyes. I know I can't have my childhood back, but I never have to let go of it. I'll remember as long as I can.

Look at the good. Did you ever play in the street at night? Did you ever throw rocks into lakes? Did you have a song you listened to that made it all okay? For me, it was this one. Smile Like You Mean It.

As kids we were all happy because we didn’t know what life was really like. As we grow older we realize how chaotic and laden with suffering life really is. Breakups, deaths, depression, betrayals, aging, dead dreams, etc. These experiences make you want to breakdown and cry but you have to save face so you at least appear happy. Smile like you mean it…

I'm 17, and I discovered this song when I was 7/8 years old. I never really understood the meaning of the song until I started listening to this again just this recently. It's telling us pre- to late teenagers to keep living, growing, learning, and enjoying our lives from here on then. And "smile like 'we' mean it" throughout. ^^

This comment is dedicated to the memory of my Grandad (1934-2016). He lived in Eastbourne with my Granny, who is still alive today, until his death in 2016. Historically, when going to Eastbourne, Dad would usually drive me down. The radio reception as we went through the South Downs (which are full of chalk) was quite poor, so we usually had a CD playing in the car - often an album by The Killers. I don't think there are any albums by The Killers that Dad doesn't have. To this day, I still associate The Killers with East Sussex (the county in England where Eastbourne is located).

Made me think of this song, couldn't stop thinking about so here I am listening to the killers and suddenly remembering that it's actually quite a sad song. As sad as it may be, it just reminds me how grateful I am to get through all the tough shit to still be here today, enjoying this yummy food, roof over my head, and smiling because I do mean it now. It gets better. I mean it.

For that, I thank The Killers for making, easily, one of the best albums ever and allowing our ears to behold it. Thanks
