How can you not love such a wonderful airplane? So well made it practically takes off by itself

I love how it sounds when it first starts up. All the sputtering and choking. And then the sound that makes at engine run up. That's classic. And then how it comes up to plane right before it takes off. That's an awesome plane.

Need to convince the owner that he (she?) wants to go to OSH next summer and we get a bunch of us to split the fuel costs. That would be a hoot! :-)

@@visibilityunlimitedmedia I'm sure we could come up with lawn chairs, and if we all wear parachutes we could claim its a jump plane so we don't need seatbelts :)

He parked with the cowl flaps on the left engine fully closed and full open on the right engine, plus with the flaps are full down. We used to park with the cowl flaps in the trail position and the flaps up, per the check list. Great to hear the sound of a 14 cylinder Pratt & Whitney R-1830 engine again. Nice DC-3, but no deicing boots on the wings and tail so winter ops in the northeast winter would be limited. The DC-3 does not do well in ice even with the boots.

I noticed that the P&W engines need to be cranked several times at low speeds before starting. I assume this is to clear oil out of the lower combustion chambers? Is there a compression release involved?

There is a small ladder that attaches to the cargo floor when the cargo door is open.
